  54. before, except that perhaps we've assumed that the vampires couldn't
  55. actually succeed in their nefarious plans.

  57. I have another thought, too, though.  Do you know the story of the frog
  58. and the scorpion?  The scorpion asks the frog to carry him across the
  59. river, but the frog initially declines on the grounds that the scorpion
  60. will sting and kill him.  But then the scorpion argues persuasively,
  61. "but consider, if I sting you, then we'll both drown.  I'll die too." 
  62. The frog then agrees to carry the scorpion, but halfway across the
  63. river, he feels a terrible pain, and realizes that he's been betrayed
  64. and stung.  "*Why* would you do that," he asks the scorpion, "now, we're
  65. *both* going to die."  And the scorpion says, "I know, I know.  But I
  66. can't help myself.  I'm a *scorpion*."

  68. The vampires may be more devoted to evil and the destruction of humans
  69. than they are to survival.  In that respect, they resemble both
  70. parasites that kill the host, and not a few humans consumed by hatred ,
  71. including Jenny's family -- more devoted to vengeance than they are to
  72. life.

  214. this, my friends:  Does Oz have a pack?  Maybe he's scouting out Sunnydale for
  215. them.  But since he's joined the Scooby gang, there's all this divided
  216. loyalties stuff to deal with.

  351. Well, Oz HAS been around alot when weird things happen. I mean, the Bronz=
  352. e is an  undead
  353. *fest* on a regular basis, but people seem to forget about it the next =
  354. day. Also, in What's
  355. My Line, that whole assasin/vampire thing happened, and I think he was =
  356. around for that to.
  357. In fact, didn't he get shot? I don't have that on tape, so I only saw it =
  358. once... but seriously, you
  359. would have to be *pretty dense* not to figure out SOMETHING was going on =
  360. in your town.
  361. Sunnydale High  HAS to have the highest death rate of any high school in =
  362. the country,
  363. not to mention the unexplained deaths and disappearances...hech, where =
  364. I grew up it was
  365. known that there was a big satanic cult, and they would put warnings in =
  366. the paper for
  367. people to lock up their pets, for people not to walk alone at night, etc,=
  368.  during their holidays.
  369. Surely they would *at least* step up the patrols in  town, ya know? I am =
  370. just an analyzer,
  371. and things like this get to me. I also wondered why Spike and Dru wanted =
  372. to kill all of their
  373. food while I watching the show. I could go on for days about stuff like =
  374. this ;) That doesn't
  375. mean I don't love the show, I do, I just notice this stuff ;)

  389. little article. Also  one the hings it said at the end, was that the

  457. lifted.  And, if it was just
  458. sex he could have hired a hooker.

  526. launchers or whatever.  But to actually apply that would have major

  530. government that not only do vampires exist, but that the problem
  531. is serious enough to warrant sending American troops into an
  532. American city.

  535. blow up Spike's factory/warehouse base, but beyond that?  The 
  536. vampires aren't a body of men like an enemy army, and they have 
  537. no real infrastructure to destroy.  It's like fighting terrorists, or 
  538. guerillas; conventional military forces have problems doing that.  
  539. And these are guerillas who are stronger and faster than ordinary 
  540. humans, who have enhanced senses, and who can turn an enemy 
  541. soldier into one of their own.  
  542.  
  543. Does the army put the whole town of Sunnydale under martial law, 
  544. and try to root out every individual vampire?  How many innocent 
  545. people would be killed in the process?  And even if this process 
  546. seems to be working, the vampires could move to another town 
  547. 100 miles away in a single night.  How long would it take to 
  548. redeploy the army there, and what stops the vampires from just 
  549. moving again?  So vampires aren't really the type of problem that
  550. conventional military forces like the Army are set up to deal with.

  675. Oz being a werewolf:  I have to stick to my story.  Even if AH says it isn't
  676. true.  (I can't believe the cast would give away all the secrets)  And
  677. anyway, my tv guide says that Buffy protects a werewolf from
  678. poachers.  Why would she protect him?  Unless she knows him and he's
  679. cool.  And if she does protect him, that means he will be returning!  Okay
  680. if I'm wrong I won't post for a week and I'll keep my foolish ideas to
  681. myself.

  697. I can't reproduce all your other reasons, because of the 4-line quoting
  698. limit, but I have to say, your arguments are incredibly good and
  699. convincing.  It *would* be hard to fight arbitrarily mobile bands of the
  700. undead, unless perhaps you could surprise them preemptively by
  701. airlifting the residents out during the day and nuking Sunnydale.  I
  702. suspect many Californians would notice the mushroom cloud, though, and
  703. might find it incongenial...

  743. I totally love this idea. As much as I hope they don't have a quick fix for
  744. Angel, I have a bad feeling that Angelus might not last for too long. But oh,
  745. how I hope they keep him bad at least till the end of the season, if not
  746. through the next- there are a lot of stories in this new situation & I'd hate
  747. to see them only start to touch upon Angelus without getting too deep into it.

  749. so i'm thinking of this song by a band called Cowboy Junkies, called Misguided
  750. Angel & the verse that struck me was this:
  751. "misguided angel hanging over me/ heart like Gabriel, pure & white as ivory/

  753. till i'm dead".... It just reminded me of our Angel.

  755. then i was listening to the musical Jekyll & Hyde (yeah i know i have a pretty
  756. bizarre range of tastes. my brother thinks i'm nuts for listening to mariah
  757. carey and then nine inch nails back to back, but hey variety's the spice of
  758. life) ... which made me start thinking that rather than solve the Angelus
  759. problem completely, they could do something so that while Angel's back to his
  760. old self most of the time, every once in a while Angelus finds his way up to
  761. the forefront.  (and maybe linda eder could guest star!!! okay that's too
  762. much)

  764. then i was listening to joni mitchell and decided that i really need to learn
  765. how to play the guitar. ;)

  816.     Buffy Summers awoke to find herself hovering above the air.  She
  817. squeezed her eyes shut again and weekly moaned.
  818.     "Angelus why are you helping the Slayer?"  An unfamiliar voice
  819. whined.
  820.     "Shut up."  Someone hissed.
  821.     Suddenly, it all came flashing back to her in a wave of horrible
  822. memories.  Angel whispering softly in her ear.  His sweet kisses and their
  823. bodies melting as one.  Then the emptiness in her soul and the pain in her
  824. heart.  She saw the evil within his deep, mysterious eyes.  Terrified of what
  825. he might do to her, she jumped up and tumbled to the hard ground.  Buffy
  826. looked up fearfully.  She heard a high giggle.
  827.     "Angel you sure know how to treat a lady!"  A girl stepped forward
  828. and slipped her arm around Angel's waist.  "You nearly killed her."
  829.     "Yeah."  He mumbled back, staring down at Buffy in concern.  Then
  830. his head snapped up and he smiled nastily.  "To bad I didn't plain out kill
  831. her."
  832.     Buffy blinked back tears, visibly upset.  Julia laughed and growled at
  833. Buffy.  Buffy, sensing the danger, jumped to her feet.  Julia laughed again.
  834.     "Oh she is a funny one Angelus."  Julia commented wryly.
  835.     "She sure gives me a lot of trouble."  Angel's eyes raked Buffy's
  836. willowy body.  "Maybe I should get rid of her now.  What do you think
  837. sweetie?"
  838.     Julia pondered for a moment and then answered, "I think we should
  839. kill her."
  840.       "I don't think tonight's the night."  Angel laughed.  He pulled Buffy to
  841. him and pressed her lips against his, crushing her to his chest.  He pushed
  842. her away and threw her to the ground nearby.
  843.     "Let's go Julia."  He commanded.  "Now!"  They ran off into the
  844. night.
  845.     Buffy stood up on shaking knees and raised a finger to her swollen
  846. lips.  When she pulled her hand away, she saw her blood.  Her lip ached as
  847. painful as her heart.

  853.     "Giles it was so horrifying!"  Willow Rosenburg cried, visibly shaken. 
  854. "He was so evil!"
  855.     "It's okay Willow really."  Giles comforted her.  "Your safe now."

  857.     "I'm right here Willow."  Buffy said from the doorway.
  858.     "Buffy!"  Willow ran to hug her best friend.  "Did he hurt you?!"  
  859.     "No Wil, I'm fine."  Buffy sat down in the chair next to Giles.
  860.     "Your bleeding Buffy."  Giles said, concerned.
  861.     "Oh it's nothing."  She replied.  "I'm going to the ladies room
  862. to-uh-freshen up."  She walked through the swinging double doors with
  863. Willow on her heels.
  864.     "Buffy what really happened?"  Willow asked quietly.
  865.     "I don't really know."  Buffy sighed.  "I remember fighting him and
  866. then I woke up in his arms outside of the school."
  867.     "Maybe there is some good in him after all."  Willow said trying to
  868. cheer her up.
  869.     "I doubt it."  Buffy replied.  "He said he was going to make me suffer
  870. before he killed me.  Then he kissed me.  But it wasn't a real kiss.  It was
  871. more like a bite."
  872.     "Is that why your lips are bleeding?"  Willow asked.
  873.     Buffy nodded and walked down the dark halls of Sunnydale High
  874. silently.

  880.     "Angel did you kill her?"  Dru asked excitedly when Angel
  881. reappeared in their small humble lair.  "Is she dead Angel?  Is she?"
  882.     "Not yet."  Angel replied, touching her cheek softly.  "Not until I make
  883. her suffer."
  884.     "Like you did to me?!"  Dru giggled.
  885.     "Like I did to you."  Angel echoed.
  886.     "What a touching scene Angel but why don't you tell us who that girl
  887. is that nearly killed the Slayer?"  Spike said, once again donned to his
  888. wheelchair.
  889.     "That's Julia."  Angel smiled eerily.  "She raised me when I was a vamp
  890. child.  But she didn't make me."
  891.     "Thank you Julia."  Spike muttered sarcastically under his breath.
  892.       "Where did she go Angel?"  Drusill asked innocently.
  893.       "She was just passing through."  Ange replied.  "She had to be on her
  894. way."
  895.       "Oh."  Drusilla nodded her head slowly.  "She had to go like mum and dad
  896. right Angel?"
  897.     "Yes sweetheart.  Are ya crippled again Spiky?"  Angel taunted.
  898.     "No I'm tired but I don't think I'm needed here."  Spike answered,
  899. standing and heading to the door.  Angel cut him off.
  900.     "Tell me Spike."  Angel narrowed his eyes.  "What were you doing in
  901. the cemetery late at night conversing with the Slayer?"
  902.     "I told you Angelus, I went to look for food."  Spike replied.  "Now if
  903. you'll get out of my way."  He pushed Angel to the side and disappeared
  904. into the night.
  905.     "We have to watch that one."  Angel whispered to himself.

  911.     Buffy and Willow sat back down in the musty library.  Giles came out
  912. of his office and joined them.
  913.     "Now Buffy tell me everything that happened."  He said.
  914.     "I was out hunting in the cemetery and Willow and I were talking. 
  915. Ummm, Angel and Drusilla came out and we ran."  Buffy explained softly. 
  916. "Willow climbed over the wall and Angel got to me before I could get over."
  917.     "Buffy...!"  Willow protest and was quieted with a small, hard kick
  918. from Buffy.
  919.     Giles looked at them strangely and nodded his head for her to go on.
  920.     "We fought and this other vampire came up and bit me.  When I
  921. woke up I was outside of Sunnydale High in Angel's arms."  She leaned
  922. back in her seat and a wistful sigh escaped from her lips.
  923.     Just then, Jenny Calendar came rushing through the doors. 
  924. "Rupert!"  She called.
  925.     "What does she want?!"  Buffy cried, jumping up, outraged.
  926.     "I think I found a way to get Angel's soul back."  Jenny declared,
  927. holding up a spellbook.
  928.     Buffy's eyes widened and she collapsed back into the chair.

  934.     Spike pushed open the doors to Sunnydale High and headed for the
  935. library.  He knew the route all to well, remembering the night when he and
  936. his buddies had crashed a little party to kill the Slayer.  He remembered
  937. the bitter taste of failure.  Spike could hear excited voices through the
  938. doors leading to the library and he swung them open and stepped in.  The
  939. Slayer, her friend, her Watcher, and some unfamiliar lady huddled around
  940. a table.
  941.     "Sorry to interrupt the party guys but I've got news for you."  Spike
  942. boomed, causing the humans to look at him in fear.
  943.     "What do you want Spike."  Buffy asked, stepping towards him.
  944.     "I came to finish the business that we started earlier."  He answered. 
  945. "Our Angel business.  Remember?"
  946.     "I don't need your help Spike."  Buffy declared.  "We have a way to
  947. restore Angel's soul."
  948.     "Ahhh but I have a way to restore Angel to his human form once
  949. again."  Spike replied, his black eyes glittering.  "Forever."
  950.     "What?!"  Buffy gasped.  Here eyes grew wide and she clasped a
  951. hand to her neck.
  952.     "Oh my...."  Giles muttered.  Jenny grabbed onto him for support. 
  953. Willow stood openmouthed with shock.
  954.     "Hey I thought I'd find you all here!"  Xander cried walking throught
  955. the swinging doors with Cordelia behind him.  He shrieked when he saw
  956. Spike and the surprised faces of his friends.  
  957.     "Who died?"  Cordelia asked.  "Who's he?!"  Cordelia pointed at
  958. Spike.
  959.     "No way."  Buffy said falling back into a chair.
  960.     "Yes way my dear Slayer."  Spike said.  "Angel can become human
  961. again."
  962.     "Whoa."  Xander mumbled.
  963.     "This is definitely an excuse to have a party!"  Cordelia cried.

  969.     "Angel!"  Drusilla screamed.
  970.     "What is it Dru honey?"  Angel rushed to her side.  "I'm right here."
  971.     "There going to take you away from me."  She whined.  "Away."
  972.     "Who is going to take me away from you Dru?"  Angel hugged her
  973. tightly.  "Who?"
  974.     "The Slayer."  Dru answered.  "She has to die."
  975.     "She will."  Angel replied.  "She will die tomorrow night, and so will
  976. her friends."  He gently released Dru from his grip to see the tears
  977. streaming down her face.
  978.     "I can't lose you again Angel."  She whimpered.
  979.     "You won't my darling."  Angel stroked her cheek.  "You won't."  He
  980. stood up and called out, "Merthos come at once."  He smiled back at Dru.
  981.     "Yes sir."  Merthos said crisply.  "You called me."
  982.     "I want you to find all the vamps in Sunnydale and bring them to
  983. me."  Angel said, his eyes gleaming eerily.  "Tomorrow night the Slayer will
  984. die."

  990.     "How?"  Buffy asked Spike mechanically.
  991.     "You must find the one who made Angel and make him drink her
  992. blood.  Then she must be killed."  Spike replied.
  993.     "But how?"  Buffy exclaimed.  "I don't get it!"  She paced across the
  994. room.
  995.     "It's impossible."  Giles muttered.
  996.     "No it's possible."  Spiked protested.
  997.     Suddenly, Buffy's eyes lit up and she grew and angry look on her
  998. face.  "You bastard Spike,"  She whispered vehemently.  "Darla made
  999. Angel and Darla is dead."
  1000.     Spike looked shocked for a moment and then he regained his
  1001. composure.  "Well I didn't think you would catch me so quick!  I guess it's
  1002. time for me to kill you now.  See Buffy, it was all part of a plan.  You get
  1003. Angel so you and him are together, then I kill you both in one shot!"  Spike
  1004. laughed evilly.  "Okay boys come on in!"  A band of vampires paraded in
  1005. the swinging library doors.
  1006.     "See you around Slayer."  Spike threatened.  He growled and lunged
  1007. at her.  Buffy backflipped.
  1008.     "Get out of here!"  She screamed to Giles.  "Throw me the
  1009. crossbow."
  1010.     Giles reached over and tossed the bow to Buffy who had landed at
  1011. the top of the stairs leading to the second story loft in the library.  She
  1012. expertly caught it and saw it was preloaded with bolts.
  1013.     Giles, Xander, Cordelia, Willow, and Jenny all ran towards the doors
  1014. leading to the hall but the vampires cut them off.  Giles held up a cross and
  1015. the vamps hissed and backed off a few steps.  Jenny threw holy water at
  1016. them making them howl in fear and pain.
  1017.     Meanwhile, Buffy had ran behind the stacks of books.  She pushed
  1018. aside a few books and looked through the space.  Her friends were
  1019. huddled together, surrounded by ten vamps.  Spike was heading up the
  1020. stairs in search of her.  Buffy figured she better make use of her time and
  1021. took aim at one of the vamps prowling in the back of the crowd.  She shot
  1022. and caught him expertly, through the heart.  He uttered a small cry of pain
  1023. before he was reduced to ash and the other vamps turned to look.
  1024.     "Uh oh."  Buffy mumbled to herself.  She jumped up and flipped over
  1025. the railing landing on a table on the first floor.  The vamps growled.
  1026.     "Go to hell."  She snorted at them and took aim, taking out three
  1027. more vamps.  The rest, now weary of her snarled.  
  1028.     "Buffy look out!"  Willow screamed as Spike came up and grabbed
  1029. Buffy by the neck.  He pulled her head back, exposing her to him.
  1030.     "You will never win Slayer."  He whispered in her ear.  He took the
  1031. crossbow and threw it to a vamp down below.  Spike prepared to rip out
  1032. the Slayer's pale throat.
  1033.     "Buffy no!"  Willow screamed.
  1034.

  1039.     While all the ruckus was happening, Jenny managed to sneak out
  1040. and lock herself in the custodian's closet.  She turned the pages in her the
  1041. ancient spellbook of her clan.  Jenny began to hum the ancient curse, once
  1042. again, that was put on Angel a long time before.  She felt Angel's hurt and
  1043. suffering.  With all the strength she could muster, Jenny stood on shaking
  1044. knees and screamed the words, feeling Angel's change deep within her soul. 
  1045. Then, she collapsed, knowing her spell had, again, worked, and Angel's
  1046. sould was restored.

  1052.     Angel pitched forward and clutched at his stomach.  "Dru..."  He
  1053. gasped.  He hadn't felt this much pain since, well since, a couple days ago.
  1054.     "Angelus darling,"  Dru whimpered.  "What is it?"
  1055.     Angel stood up and tumbled outside into the thunder and pouring rain.
  1056.     "Buffy!"  He screamed into the wind.

  1062.     Drusilla gasped and followed her Angel outside, watching as he fell
  1063. to his knees and sobbed, screaming the Slayer's name.
  1064.     "No..."  She whispered to herself.  "NO!"  She screamed and
  1065. collapsed in a puddle.  Darkness engulfed her.

  1071.     Spike prepared to bite into Buffy, when the shrill screaming of a
  1072. woman nearby interupted them.
  1073.     "Jenny?!"  Someone called out.  "Jenny!"
  1074.     Taking the opportunity, Buffy smashed Spike with her elbow and
  1075. flipped him onto his back.  The wind suddenly picked up and rain pounded
  1076. against the windows of the musty library.  Spike was knocked unconscious
  1077. and the six remaining vamps looked around nervously.  Buffy jumped off
  1078. the table and executed a perfect round-house kick and four vamps
  1079. dropped to the ground.  The other two lunged at her and she
  1080. straddle-kicked them, knocking them also, to the ground.
  1081.     "Giles!"  Buffy yelled over the howling wind.  "What's going on?!"
  1082.     "I don't know but Jenny has disappeared."  He shouted back.
  1083.     "Throw me the stakes and I'll get rid of Spike and the rest of these
  1084. vamps."  She added.  "Hurry!"
  1085.     Giles tossed her Slayer bag to her.  "I will get Willow, Cordelia and
  1086. Xander out of here and we'll find Jenny."  Buffy nodded.  She watched as
  1087. they left the room.
  1088.     "Sorry Buffy but you won't be killing me tonight."  Spike sounded
  1089. from across the room.  Buffy spun around to see him climbing out a
  1090. window.  "Hopefully you'll find Angel before I do cause when I do, he dies." 
  1091. Then Spike disappeared.  Buffy turned and began to stake the remaining
  1092. vampires until the floor was covered entirely with ash.

  1098.     Giles, Willow, Cordelia, and Xander had run into the hallway when
  1099. they saw that the custodians closet door was slightly ajar.
  1100.     "This room brings back memories."  Xander muttered.
  1101.     "Yeah bad ones."  Cordelia shot back.
  1102.     Giles pushed open the door to display Jenny Calendar lying on the
  1103. floor with a spellbook by her side.  "Jenny."  He whispered, gently prodding
  1104. her.
  1105.     "Hmmmm?"  She murmured.  "Rupert?"  Her eyes opened.
  1106.     "What happened?"  He wrapped his arms around her.
  1107.     "I cast the spell on Angel again."  She said softly.  "His soul is back. 
  1108. He's the good Angel again.  The Angel we all know and love."
  1109.     Willow, Cordelia and Xander stepped aside to show Buffy standing there,
  1110. tears brimming her lids.  "Thank you."  She whispered then fled outside
  1111. into the night.

  1118. knew what had happened.
  1119.     "Buffy."  He called out again.  He had heard Dru screeching behind

  1121.     "Angel?"  Came a soft, familiar, loved voice.
  1122.     "Buffy?"  Angel's sobbing stopped and her tried to lift his head.
  1123.     "Angel."  She whispered hoarsely and fell down beside him, cradling
  1124. his head in her lap.
