You guys keep talking about careers and support for the slayers.
You don't get it! She's got as much of a future as an Olympic
gymnast. As soon as she loses half a step or a little height on her
kicks, she's toast. They talk about "one *girl* in every generation"
because they never live long enough to get past the "girl" stage.
And they want her to think about her *career*? When she won't live to
be thirty? When she daren't bear a child? I'd be a little out of
sorts myself, I do believe.

Mom is gone til Thursday, right? Monday night Buffy & Angel make their date. Tuesday, Dead guys on ice. Wednesday, Buffy sleeps at Angel's place.
So as the episode ends it is Thursday morning. Buffy is not home, Xander and Cordy have broken into the Summers house, invited in worm guy and mom is due home......
And every one is due at school.
As to du Lac, he probably gravitated to Sunnydale (Ca=F1ada del Sol) with it being the hellmouth and all.

Wild guess says hemmorrhagic capillary breakdown.
Whole thing with platelets and capillary walls, platelets contain adherent that repair walls when damaged. If not enough platelets, slight bruising causes wall to break and not heal, blood seeps into surrounding area. Not a good thing.
This hints at vampires having an actual circulation of blood in the Buffyverse. Any minor bump would cause this type of bleeding. And if Dru is not eating, no repairs, just broken capillary walls.
Looks like she is starving herself 'to death.' Sort of an anorexic vampire.

Ok. :) I'm absolutely shocked that nobody has seen this yet. Usually I'm the one catching up on web stories. BUT, over at the tvguide site yesterday there was a little story on Bianca Lawson (Kendra). While she didn't say exactly HOW the story would turn out she did say "Well, I don't die.... so maybe they'll bring me back for later episodes."
There ya go. So, I guess the way to get rid of the bounty hunters *isn't* to kill Kendra. Bummer. I don't remember the exact addy, but I can check later today and post it to the list if you wish to see it yourselves. :)

When I first saw her, I thought she must be the third assassin, since her appearance came right after the other 2 assassins. There was a card with a cat on it, wasn't there? And she seemed to move like a cat.
If she was the slayer, why not kill Angel immediately, when she had the chance? Assuming that when she found Buffy she was trying to kill her because she thought she was a vampire, why the inconsistency of having Angel die slowly with the sun eventually coming out versus quickly trying to kill Buffy? If she did think Buffy was a vampire that she needed to slay, an axe isn't very effective (or did Buffy have the axe?).
With all this let's assume she is an assassin and found Buffy to be too strong to kill. What better way to get Buffy off guard than to pretend to be a friend or to have a mutual bond. You know, something about keeping your enemies very close.

This has probably already been touched upon so forgive me, I deleted half the posts for this episode. What was the first bounty hunter? Just a demon? Because when he made his attack in the rink, it looked like he had a vamp face on, although I could be mistaken.
Hopefully, Kenya is a demon so they can off her and get back to some decent characters. I wanted to be sick when I saw what she was wearing and even sicker when I heard her accent. Let's hope she doesn't act this poorly the rest of the season. I don't just want her to die either, I want her to die painfully.

Of course, he could have been clutching Mr Gordo because it was feeding time and he was thinking about how nice it would be if Mr. Gordo was a real pig that he could sink his teeth into. The bartender did try to persuade Angel by mentioning "pig blood" later in the ep.

Ummm, I've been watching since the beginning and been on this list
since early this season.
I don't believe that anyone who was just *watching the show* knew
anything about a second slayer.
It all came out of teasers, spoilers, gossip, and speculation.
I didn't used to care about spoilers, but thinking about how it would
have rocked to hear her say "I'm Kendra, the Vampire Slayer" if I
hadn't heard all that stuff really changed my mind. I would have
gotten to spend this whole week trying to figure it out, and I
wouldn't have gotten it until next week's show. She looked like an
assassin if you didn't have the "second slayer" preconception going
in. Then, in the last seconds of the show, it's suddenly a lot more
complicated.
I'm sorry now it was "spoiled" for me.
Mia
GASP-er -- Keeper of Giles Cold and Cruel Kick Ass Side
Well, to sum it all up before I say anything...I love Kendra TVS.
Sure, Bianca could have used a little more practice on the accent, but was I the only one that totally worshipped the way she pronuonced "girl"?
Okay, here's my deal. I for one am totally pissed that someone in the crew leaked the Kendra Slayer info to BusinessWire weeks ago. I tried watching it from the perspective of someone who hasn't heard anything about Kendra prior to the ep, and jeez it would have been spectacular.
Unfortunately, I did know ahead of time, but that didn't stop me from lovin' the ep.
I think Kendra is great BECAUSE she's everything that Buffy's not. Giles has always insisted that Buffy take her slaying duties seriously. Well, here's someone who does, and that'll be a topic in next week's ep. She's been doin' her job for only four or five months, and she's already capable of beatin' Angel down. I've read so many posts and letters from people wishing a violent and cruel death to Kendra. Well, color me nostalgic, but weren't these exact same things said about Cordelia during the first half of season one? Anyone still want Cordy to die now?
Concerning Kendra's slaying methods, they just add even more interest to her character. Yes, stake through the heart may be the most popular and efficient method of vamp death, but it's not the only method.
Buffy ran down a whole list of ways to off a vamp in "The Harvest" -- beheading being one of them. It wasn't shown, but we can all pretty much assume that Buffy killed that one vamp in the Bronze by lopping off his head with a symbal at the end of "The Harvest". Sooooo, why can't Kendra do the same with an axe? Look where the axe hits the bed in WML1. It was aimed right at Buffy's neck, which would have killed anyone, human or vampire. As for locking Angel in the cage, Kendra was demonstrating the lovely art of sadism. She didn't just want Angel to die. She wanted him to die *painfully*. And for a vamp, there can't be anything worse than being locked in a room that will soon be flooded in sunlight, forcing the vamp to count down the hours to his impending death. Worked pretty well in _Interview With the Vampire_, if I recall. Finally, we have the poor airport guy. Sure, he was innocent. Sure, he didn't deserve the harsh beating that Kendra gave him. As far as I'm concerned, this just strengthens the vast character difference between Buffy and herself.
Kendra is NOT a nice person. I believe she's detached herself from all the values she was brought up with, and she is now a hardened, tough-as-nails, kill-'em-all Slayer. Buffy is still tops in my book, but I more than welcome this view of a different Slayer.

I had a fear that they might air a rerun December 1st. But at least they're showing a really good one! (When She Was Bad) I might just have to tape that one again! I'm afraid I might wear out my current tape from watching that one over and over again! (All time favorite line...."Hi guys! Miss me?" After a whole summer of Buffy Withdrawal.....you betchya!) Plus I'm now addicted to the song "Sugar Water" ---the woman in the moon is singing to the earth
Okay....I'm babbling now!
You know what I just realized? I think Oz is the only character that doesn't have his own keeper page! Someone should really do something about that! I would....but I've never created a web page, so I'm sure I couldn't do him justice. (I also looked at his scene with Willow as him being tongue tied....I just wanna know what happened next!!!!)
Speaking of Oz...I also had the horrible thought that he just might be the third assassin. But I don't wanna believe that!
On the subject of the assassins....I know we keep mentioning that there are three because of Dru's cards (since when has there been a worm tarot card?)...but didn't Giles mention an unlimited number? They just keep coming and coming until the job is done....so after devil guy, worm guy and cat person try and fail, won't more pop up to try again?

Yet another BtVS pig reference. I vaguely remember this being discussed previously as a running theme, right up there with the smoking kills thing. How many piggy-type references does that make now? Let's see, there's Mr. Gordo, "pig blood", poor innocent little Herbie (wasn't it Herbie?) the Mascot, the Three Little Pigs cartoon in the A/V room in PG, and weren't there some other ones?

Yes, but if you were to look at some vampire literature, you would find that some vampires admit that DO need to breathe in order to make their vocal cords work, even if they don't breathe as ordinary humans do.

Absolutely! The second I saw her I knew who she was, and I knew who we were supposed to think she was, and I became very upset that I had missed out on that part of it all. What if I had seen Puppet Show for the first time know all along that it was the Magician guy? The entire episode would've been ruined. This ep was salvagable, but I did get the feeling that I missed out on something really big. Kinda made me sad.
So, from this point further, I am no longer reading spoilers. It's going to be hard, because I want to read the unfounded rumors based upon this week's episode that people keep spoiler protecting for no apparent reason, and it *is* really tempting to read the real ones, but this has been building up for the past couple of episodes now, and WML1 really teared it for me. Anyway, so, this isn't to say that you guys should really need to care about my spoiler-reading all that much, but I figure if I make it public I'll be far more likely to stick to it, and maybe some brave souls will come along with me, so let's say it all together now...

This is fantastic! I've now seen two responses to the nine-yards question, and they're both different from what _I_ always heard. Forgive me if this interpretation has already been posted:
During World War II, airplane gunbelts were 9 yards long - that is, there were 9 yards of bullets. When a plane crashed and the wreckage was recovered, the people recovering the wreckage would check the gunbelts to see whether the pilot had at least shot off all 9 yards of bullets before crashing -- the idea being that no matter what, you should at least fire all of your ammunition. This sort of analysis led to statements like, "Well, he didn't make it, but at least he gave 'em the whole 9 yards."
If this explanation has been posted already, I apologize :-).

I too thought this was a curious post. Are you asking in reference to the difference in personalities (Buffy, bubbly and quirky when she isn't saddled by the desperate ennui of slayer living, vs. Kendra, who so far has been pretty unsociable and humorless) or do you posit a racial difference?
Also, I've been thinking about the whole airline employee beating thing, and besides agreeing with Lisa Rose that the official line could be that Kendra had entered the country illegally and was trying to protect herself from detection by the authorities, also would like to suggest if Kendra were really the third assassin, wouldn't it have made more sense for her to have simply killed the guy and disposed of the body? Of course, it's hard for me to tell if the guy is still alive after she wails on him, but surely a nasty demon assassin would be able to inflict much more serious damage if her goal is to kill someone and make sure that they were dead? Also, when she takes on Angel in Willy's bar, surely she might have done so thinking that she was protecting a human who was being menaced by a vampire?
JJ, not being an apologist for Kendra's behavior, but really curious as to why so many are so ready to believe the worst about her when Angel's introduction in season 1 was similarly ambiguous?

Now I'm really confused. I have read (and heard from uncles who were in WWII) that it was a World War 2 fighter pilot expression. The machine guns mounted in the wings used belts of ammunition that were 9 feet long. They could be strung together in 3's, creating a belt 27 feet long - or 9 yards.
If a fighter pilot came back from a mission with empty guns, he was said to have given the enemy "the whole nine yards."
Anybody else have a way of confirming any of these? (My uncles have since passed away.) Or does anybody else have yet another interpretation?
