Ok, here's a bunch of responses on different topics that have randomly
appeared in my head while I was checking my e-mail and pretending to do
work:
On the Solstice Topic:
Luke mentions something about "three days after the newest light".
We don't know what "newest light" is talking about. It could be the new
moon...I don't know how soon after the new moon comes the cresent moon
though. It could be the birth of a new star that was simply not mentioned,
but is crucial to the destiny line. I think Giles had the more precise
reference with the first cresent moon after the Solstice.
On the Would Buffy have Fighting Companions if She Wasn't Attractive Topic:
I think all slayers will have the innate attractiveness that comes
from extreme physical fitness, youth, health, and a purpose. So, Buffy
would have that at the very very least. Other than that, I think she would
always be able to find someone/somebodies to support her, though perhaps
not to the extent that Willow and Xander do...I think she is just very very
lucky in this instance.
That's all my ramblings for now!!
Be well,
Tracey

If you're an unpopular girl, you stand a good chance of getting lucky with
some tortured undead hunk who is totally into respecting "boundaries" and
who can't bring himself to give you a hickey although you'd probably slice
open a vein for him if he just blinked at you funny (like Buffy).
On the bad side...
If you're an unpopular guy, you stand a good chance of being mated and

by an animal spirit that gives you a yen for porcine sushi (like Xander)
If you're an unpopular girl, you stand a good chance of hooking up with
some Internet sicko who doesn't even have the decency to be a human being
or falling for the potentially fatal version of the old "I know a shortcut

Re: Cordelia Chase Must Die! the thread.
Maybe Cordelia could be kinda like the Adric character of BtVS and she can
be annoying and smart for a season then sacrifice herself for the group and
(to steal from Reality Bites) everyone shows up at her funeral in chokers
and haltertops. And then over the closing credits they could show her pair
of $200 shoes only with a broken heel. Very symbolic and Buffy could be
quite moved. ;-)
Re: The Solstice Thread Must Die! the thread.
Again Maytree has given us another excellently argued analysis that has
raised nothing but more excellent questions. She is a mighty instigator of
discourse and I salute her! Huzzah! :-) I think that the producers and
Joss just didn't do their research on this point and decided to go for the
"ooooooh, they used the word solstice so it must be something magical and
mysterious!" factor.
Wow, the weekends always produce such interesting things!

Subject: BUFFY: That Fake Keeper, and Lying
Hi all,
If you are wondering that person who was plagiarzing my GASPer site
finally emailed me back to say she changed the site (but she is still
trying to give away stuff ppl already keep), but get this - she tried to
claim that she never saw my site:
<Well...I have never even seen ur web page for one. And what are GASPers?
I looked at all my video tapes and got this stuff from there ok? Plus a
lot of people asked me to put this stuff on there so I don't kno where u
are getting this from. If u are so angry, I have takin stuff off these
lists and I have changed stuff so that's what i will do. If someone emails
me and asks if they wanna keep something then so be it..Ur list is on ur
page..And my list is on my page..now some people who didn't get a chance
to keep anything on any other list..can now keep something on mine. Thank
You. If u have anything else to say, email me. o and if u wanna be nice,
u could help me make up some more stuff. ~Angel Girl (\0/)>
First she plagiarizes my site and then she lies that she did it when she
got caught red handed, my reply:
Well, I don't believe you, know why?
Cause some of these things didn't exist on the show ppl made them up
(Library Card, Insecurity, Barvery, Lost Faith, Elusive Smile) and I have
all 110 emails proving each claim and creation of each title if it wasn't
on the show.
And another thing it looks like you went down the list of keepers on my
pages an copied most of them, Cause on my page it starts out with "Coats&
Ties - MINE, Dread Machine - Elaine's and Library Keys - Cagey's, and
looky here, that's how yours starts out to, but without the rightful
keepers next time them!
And if you really did make them up yourself why didn't you just separate
Coats and Ties as one section each, unlike me who claimed them together.
There was no library card shown on the show for Giles, the keeper made it
up, and why not just "Smile" but instead "Elusive Smile"? Because you
stole it from the person who made it up, and the only place to do that is
from my site!
You are obviously very young and have no idea how many ppl you've pissed
off. Well I have informed 4 mailing lists that deal with the show, the
Official Buffy Postingboard that the creator of the show and the actress
who plays Willow reads and posts at, the presidents of the other Keeper
clubs and the GASPers who you thought you would take their stuff from and
give to other ppl about what you have done. So I suspect you will be
getting quite a few angry letters.
Yes you have changed your site, and I'm glad for that. But I'll still
warn you that the ppl who's stuff is still listed there will still get mad
and email you. And don't expect many visitors, cause I will not be
listing your site on my Buffy Links Page - considered the best list of
links on the net, and since I know most of the owners of the Buffy Pages
on the net, I will personally ask them not to link your site, so that the
only way anyone will find it, is if they do a web search.

I think we think too highly of ourselves as a species. While such high
self-regard may be deserved, it's effect usually results in vanity and
foolishness.
We forget that we are also of the animal kingdom, and subject to the Laws
of Nature. The primary law being that of survival including the urge to
reproduce. Think about it, what lies at the basis of the urge to
reproduce? Sexual attraction! The various courting dances of various
species, the mane of the horse, the feathers and colors of birds, so it
is with humans, the outward appearance triggers biological responses. To
deny it is to deny your humanity.
The best thing is not to make a big deal out of beauty or ugliness but to
acknowledge what you see, acknowledge what you feel, learn and grow.

Good points, funee, but I think it's worth mentioning that the human
species is about the only species that rationalizes sexual attraction and
is just about the only species that can control its sexual response (I
won't speak for all species because I'm no zoologist and there may be
complex patterns of behavior that may suggest unarticulated rules of sexual
behavior in the animal kingdom.)
To apply this to Buffy: Would you care to speculate how the Mantis chick
fits into the whole the "let's go at it like Lady and the Tramp" vs. the
"we are *higher* beings!" argument? I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.
Also, I think we all agree that the entire cast of BtVS are hotties, but I
notice that only three major cast members have had specific comments made
about their sexual desirability within the context of the show: Buffy
(Xander and Jesse in WttH), Cordelia (it's her beauty that Marcy tries to
destroy), and Angel (obviously, no more "Angel is soooooooo hot!"
please!!!! :-) ). So what's the rationale here, d'ya think? I mean, I
think they are all equally attractive in my subjective opinion, but
apparently in the world of the show, there is a heirarchy of desirability?
What are the distinguishing factors?
Hmmm.

We observe certain rules of social conduct in regards to sexual
behaviour. However outside of that it is foolish to think that we are
anymore different than any other species. Not everyone finds the same
things sexually attractive in people, but there are certain biological
responses that we all share that lead to the moment and consequences of
sex.

The Mantis chick episode was hilarious. How the Mantis expected
frightened teenagers to fertilize her eggs was beyond me. She should
have stayed in her human form if she wanted a sperm donation. (:
>think they are all equally attractive in my subjective opinion, but
>apparently in the world of the show, there is a heirarchy of

>What are the distinguishing factors?
I don't think you can say they are all "equally attractive". You must
have preferences. There is no hierarchy of desirability other than what
Hollywood or magazine ads or tv commercials may
consciously/subconsciously indoctrinate people with. This is something
that also varies from society to society. For example, if you grew up in
that country (in Asia or Africa?) where the women progressively insert
bigger and bigger rings in their mouths to make their lips stick out, do
you think Sarah Michelle Gellar would win a Beauty Contest over there?
Do you think Sarah would be considered a beautiful girl in every country
and society?
Of course, this is not to say that things aren't constantly changing and
evolving. In the Asian countries the ideal female beauty was considered
willowy, slender, delicate. Now that Western culture (jeans, tv, video,
music, movies, etc) permeates every part of the globe, the more fuller
figure may have entered into their idea of female beauty.
To take it a step further, do you think those vampires find each other
attractive when they put on their vampire faces? They obviously don't
find the humans attractive, they look at humans as a meal rather than
sexual objects. Darla called Angel sick because of his love for Buffy.
Whole buncha stuff thrown out here for some lively discussion! Thanks
for your thoughts Jesse.

Unfortunately, you can't do this without an agent. 20th Century Fox
Television (the studio responsible for Buffy) does not accept
unsolicited material in any way, shape or form (believe me, I wrote

From what Scott's said before, I'm guessing not. Joss has said that
they don't use or look at story ideas from anyone who isn't a writer on
the show. But you can always write it up as fanfic.

Haven't really been following the fan name debate (although everywhere you
turn its there in one form or another) and I was wondering if anyone
has suggested "Slayeryte"? Kinda like an "acolyte, which means "one who
attends or assists: FOLLOWER."
Just so you know, the "-yte" is pronounced like "-ite" as in "kite".
Its close to "Slayerette" which a lot of people like, but has a harder,
cooler edge to it...

Not really. What usually predicates preference is sexual desire, imo, i.e.,
gosh, Willow is cute, but Cordelia is a babe! or Xander is adorable, but I
just wanna pull Angel down on top of me. I think it's very easy to consider
a group like this equally attractive without having a preference per se.
It's what I call the Grandparent school of physical attractiveness
assessment (Oh, look, aren't these the most beautiful children you've ever
seen! You could have any boy/girl you wanted, you're so pretty!) I wonder
how many of us have this attitude towards this cast: like, they're all
pretty, but the idea of getting with any of them is kind of disgusting and
incestuous (beyond being improbable!). :-) I don't wanna be alone on this,
so someone please agree with me!!!!!

I'll agree with you that that wouldn't be the case.

Let's remember that even the "fuller" figure of Western Culture is still
pretty anorexic. Female body image has been remarkably fickle throughout
Western history whilst male body image has been relatively stable, and it's
unclear to me who establishes the standard, but i'm getting off topic... ;-)

Excellent points! Remember Darla says to Angel something about Buffy
seeing his "true" face (i guess, game face) and giving him a kiss, but of
course his face prior to his vampirization would be his true face, right?
Oy, those vamps and their subjective standards of beauty. (BTW, does
anyone else think that both Angel and Buffy's vamp prosthetics (Buffy's
from Nightmares) were designed to still be attractive by human standards
(in that Ron Perlman Beast way). Unfortunately the same wasn't true with
Darla, who has an attractive human face, but looked like she fell off the
ugly truck in vamp makeup.)

Yes, the letters have come in and keep coming in. Keep up the

I think the issue here is not that she copied others' pages -- if that was a
problem, most pages wouldn't be in existance (Hmmm, what do we have here? Bios,
the offical websites images, a bit on how hot David and/or Sarah is, and episode
summeries. Again!) The issue was that she copied it WORD FOR WORD. She gave no
credit to those who did the work in coming up with non-obvious things to keep,
and those who did a lot of hard work in putting together keepers pages.
I was one of the people who wrote her to complain. This is the resopnse I got:
If u have not already seen..I have taken these lists off of my page a few
hours ago..and maybe u should tell all ur buddies that I have done so because
I do not need any more b/s ing from anyone. I have taken them off..maybe u
should reload the page or get a new browser...
Rude, isn't it? For one thing, I wrote her this morning, right after looking at
her page, a good three or four hours before the page was changed. Secondly, I
resent the implication that I went around calling my friends to go harrass this
person. I wrote a polite letter saying that I was offended by her page, told her
why, and asked her to please remove the lists. In response, I got accused of
malicious behavior.
This is pretty much a dead issue now. She changed the page. For her own
convience, rather then curtsy, but the lists are gone. We proved that, even if
we don't have an offical name for ourselves ;), we still have unity. For the
most part. Sure, everyone's going to get really tired of the Keeping issue, and
the GASP'ers are going to drive the rest of us nuts (kidding!), and there are
definalty times when we're going to want to beat our heads against the wall. But
we'll get through it. We'll watch Buffy, analyze it to death, and argue over
which quote was the best for a long time to come. (I hope).

Slayeryte....I like that idea. The ending *ette* is, gramatically
speaking, the *feminine diminutive* of a word and, as such, is not
particularly flattering.

This is cool. I have to admit, I've been an advocate for "Slayerette", but i
like Scott's idea MUCH better. As Scoot said, it has a harder edge to it, which
suits shows image.

Hi all,
Sorry if I upset anyone by posting the off topic post about the Earthquake
we had here in Seattle. I should have made it Buffy related by saying
stuff like:
"What do you think think 5.1?" Master - Prophecy Girl (last report had it
had 4.9)
Or "HELP The Hellmouth is opening under Seattle, send Buffy and Crew, esp
Giles!" :D
I was still to shaken to add the ObBuffy stuff to the email. So for that
I'm sorry!

Greetings all, Archangel here and I must admit to felling a bit dense
today. I've been playing with a fanfic idea for some time now and
finally, due mostly to a fit of ansomnia, wrote the first chapter. My
only problem now is I don't have the foggiest idea where to post the damn
thing for feedback. If someone would be kind enough to send me address
I'd be most appreciative.
On a totally dissimilar topic.

First the nice response then the defensive one. Perhaps the make up for
Buffy and Angel were done more carefully, being that they're regular
characters. Whereas they knew they were going to ice Darla anyway, why
do all that work if she's not going to be around next season anyway.
Here's my defensive response. DON'T BE MESSIN' WITH DARLA MAN!!! Call me
kinky but....I thought....she looked....well....HOT!! O.K. I thought she
looked hot. Jeez. As a Human...."Salty Goodness", as a vamp....well
let's just say if there's room in her coffin, I'll bring the bubbly.
