  66. I was wondering, is it a written law that the slayer's parents can't know
  67. that  she in fact is the slayer?  I mean you ask most people (especially
  68. adults) and they will tell you, "No.  Vampires do not exist.  They are just
  69. folklore."  I think this is the way Buffy's mom would react.  Sure Ms.
  70. Calendar is a technopagan which makes her not the average adult.  However,
  71. even though she believes in aspects of the occult, that doesn't mean she
  72. would believe in the whole "Buffy is the chosen one" thing.  A written law
  73. would make sense considering most parents of a slayer would just think there
  74. child is delusional and would either lock them in their  room or put them
  75. away.  Can anyone tell me if they know if the written law exsist?  BTW, what
  76. do ya think would be Buffy's mom's reaction if she ever found out?  What
  77. would she say?

  166. The only thing I think we're concerned with is that as much of this be done
  167. offlist as possible.  I did post to the list asking for someone to
  168. volunteer to tally votes offlist so that we wouldn't get tons of "I hate
  169. Slayerette" posts.  We also don't want to see this turn ugly.

  171. I like your plan, but I think if several people volunteer you should just
  172. work together--you don't need our stamp of approval, IMO.  If the person
  173. who did the tally to begin with is amenable to taking offlist nominations
  174. for names, posting the possibilities then opening up voting, that's fine.
  175. Since only 21 people voted last time, and a lot of people missed it, I
  176. don't think it's untoward to vote again.  However, I suspect you'll get an
  177. only slightly larger turnout (a 1% response rate to a survey is considered
  178. very high).

  180. So work it out nicely amongst yourselves, and try to keep it from
  181. cluttering up the playground too much.  :-)

  275. Um, ok, here goes.  I'd be more than willing to be the so labled
  276. 'annointed one' as far as being sent votes.  My mailbox won't crash (and
  277. if it does, I get to fix it myself, since I work for my ISP ;) My mail
  278. client uses filters, so I can pretty much filter votes into their own
  279. folders as long as people are kind enough to use certain subjects.

  281. Another good idea would be, for the sakes of whomever the 'annointed
  282. one' will be, would be to state very clearly that *not* sending your
  283. vote/nomination in the specified fashion would null that
  284. vote/nomination.  This will encourage people to use the proper subjects
  285. when sending their vote/nomination.  So, who wants the really fun job,
  286. trying to contact all the other lists/boards/newsgroups? (g)

  485. I just received Matthew's constructive criticism on the selection process.
  486. Let me begin by saying that Matthew is completely right.  I think that an
  487. offical selection process should be structured in a formal matter.  I
  488. started the unofficial selection process as a matter of curiosity, and
  489. then it evolved into something more.  I didn't feel I had the authority or
  490. the knowledge of other lists as a newbie to hold an offical selection for
  491. a group name.  I would be glad to participate in a more official process
  492. if that was desired.  From my perspective, nobody seemed too concerned
  493. about the process until a decision was made.  Maybe if another selection
  494. process occurred people would state their preferences.
  495.  
  496. I really do appreciate all comments and polite criticism from all of you,
  497. but I do think that a group name would be helpful.  We are all great fans
  498. of the show and we would like to see the show flourish.  Group unity,
  499. in my opinion, would help us achieve our goal.

  520. Yes, I think there were undertones of Buffy becoming a "Bride" of the
  521. Master.  As Vampirism is a profane mockery of Christian resurrection,
  522. the white dress of a Vampire's "Bride" would be a profane mockery
  523. of a Christian Bride's dress.  As I mentioned in another post, Buffy 
  524. looked like a Vampire's Bride for a moment after Xander and Angel 
  525. helped her up, pale-faced, kohl-eyed, in a white dress, whispering
  526. "Master...?"  The Master had even held her and "kissed" her on the 
  527. neck (gross!) (the only problem would have been the cross).

  600. It has been pointed out to me that the reason the Season Finale was such
  601. a show stopper, bringing everything to a conclusion with the Master being
  602. defeated is that the BTVS series was shot such that it would be a
  603. complete package for one season in the event that it was cancelled.
  604. However, the Season Finale did leave enough room for other possibilities
  605. to explore in the event it survived into a second season.
  606.  
  607. I guess these possibilities might be:

  609. 1. The continued development of the characters and relationships.
  610. 2. The emergence of other evil Masters or the rebirth of the old Master.
  611. 3. Other evil influences (werewolves, spirits, demons, etc.)
  612. 4. Introduction of new characters into the Slayerettes or those who
  613. regularly interact with the Slayerettes as Cordelia and Giles girlfriend
  614. did before they joined them.
  615. 5. A host of other imaginative episodes devoted to time travel (past and
  616. future), outer space connections (maybe X-Files tie-ins?), parallel
  617. universes, double identities,  an episode done entirely tongue-in-cheek
  618. spoofing itself, new love interests for the characters, maybe a more
  619. in-depth exploration of the family of each character (Buffy, Willow,
  620. Xander's parents, cousins, Grandparents, etc.), cross-over appearances
  621. between BTVS and Xena: Warrior Princess (I hope!), etc.

  958. I would guess it's not.  Giles family certainly knew he was
  959. a Watcher.  It was an old family tradition with them.

  962. of Buffy trying to juggle two conflicting roles, one as a normal
  963. high school teenager, the other as mythic vampire slayer.
  964. If mom knew, Buffy wouldn't have to work so hard at juggling

  992. Well, I guess I gotta add my .02.  Wow!  This was one of the best season
  993. finales that I can recall having seen!  The acting was superb,
  994. especially Sarah in the library scene, and I have to say that I, for one
  995. think that the 16 I don't wanna die line was perfect. And, SMG delivered
  996. it in a truly heart rending way. Give the girl another Emmy!! Allyson
  997. was most excellent too.  Now, about Xander's treatment of Willow - while
  998. I find it completely reprehensible, and thoroughly despicable, we need
  999. to remember that he's only 16(or so). He's neither in touch with or in
  1000. control of his feelings, nor is he able to anticipate anyone else's.  On
  1001. the one hand, Willow is a totally wonderful girl, and deserves far
  1002. better treatment - like being loved for herself, not as a consolation
  1003. prize! And good for her for refusing to be such a consolation prize! 
  1004. But, on the other hand, I can sympathize with Xander's frustration
  1005. concerning the unrequited love which he has for Buffy(or, is it really
  1006. unrequited lust?  Hmmm!) Whichever, Been there, Done that! The poor
  1007. guy!  Buffy's such a Babe(sorry, ladies, no intent to offend!); in fact
  1008. her continued lack of popularity considering this, baffles me. In my
  1009. high school, she would have had to beat the boys off with a baseball
  1010. bat.(Of course, since she's The Slayer, she would have been quite
  1011. proficient at this!)  Anyway, I really ejoyed the h*ll out of this
  1012. episode, and will have to view my taped archives to alleviate summer
  1013. withdrawl symptoms.
  1014. A nit pick, if you all will indulge me - I really do agree with several
  1015. of you that this should have been a two hour finale.  It was so rich
  1016. with material that it could have been easily stretched thus.  And, we
  1017. all would have had an additional 60 minutes of BtVS to watch!  Heh Heh!

  1158. I never saw any message saying that an election was being held!  And
  1159. now it has apparently been decided?!

  1161. If we are going to have a proper election, shouldn't it be announced at
  1162. least as often as that TV-Guide "faces" vote-for-SMG thing was?

  1164. No wonder the top pick only got 16 votes -- almost nobody knew that
  1165. the election was on!

  1167. Let's have someone post the nominations, and a ballot, and a method
  1168. for determining that the vote-keeper is receiving and recording all of
  1169. the votes properly.

  1171. Judging from all the messages we have read so far, this is too controversial
  1172. an issue to just take one person's word for it that there was an election and
  1173. that the issue has been decided.
