  5. The following message came from a professional associate who has my
  6. e-mail information in his computer's address book.  I followed the
  7. instructions that he was kind enough to forward, and indeed did find the
  8. virus icon he mentioned.  
  9.  
  10. Based on the apparent validity of his warning, I am forwarding this on
  11. to you.  If you find the virus, you may want to pass this info on to
  12. others in your address book.  (If you are much more computer literate
  13. than I, and feel someone is perpetrating a hoax on us, please forgive
  14. me, and then share a little of what you know with me.)

  16. I'm only passing this along because it came to me from someone I believe
  17. to be a credible source.  (And because the icon he mentions was on my
  18. computer's hard drive.)

  29. my computer was infected. So this is important. I had the virus and you
  30. may have is as well since it attaches itself to address book
  31. files. I hope this message will help to prevent a potential problem in
  32. your system.

  34. This is serious stuff! We found this in our computer, and stopped it.
  35. .But, it  already replicated itself and went out to everyone on my 
  36. address list. You must act!

  38. I got this virus, and chances are you have it too, since you're in my
  39.  address book. It lies dormant for 14 days, then it kills your hard
  40. drive.
  41.  
  42. Here's how to stop it.
  43.  
  44. If you've got it, send this to everyone in your address book.
  45.  
  46. The directions for removing it are easy.
  47.  
  48. 1. Go to 'start' - then to 'find or search' (depending on your computer)
  49.  
  50. 2. In the 'search for files or folders' type in sulfnbk.exe -- this is
  51. the virus.
  52.  
  53. 3. In the 'look in' make sure you're searching Drive C.
  54.  
  55. 4. Hit 'search' button (or find)
  56.  
  57. 5. If this file shows up (it's an ugly blackish icon that will have the 
  58. name 'sulfnbk.exe') DO NOT OPEN IT
  59.  
  60. 6. Right click on the file - go down to delete and left click.
  61.  
  62. 7. It will ask you if you want to send it to the recycle bin, say yes.
  63.  
  64. 8. Go to your desktop (where all your icons are) and double click on
  65. the  recycle bin.
  66.  
  67. 9. Right click on sulfnbk.exe and delete again - or empty the bin.
  68.

  70. If you find it, send this email to all in your address book, because
  71. that's how it's transferred.<

  85. Responding to my request for further education, several of my more
  86. computer savvy friends have already notified me that the earlier virus
  87. alert was/is a hoax.

  89. Please accept my apology, and thanks to those of you who have helped me
  90. further my computer education.  I should feel smarter because of it, but
  91. instead I just feel ______________! (fill in the blank)

  103. become infected by a number of valid viruses (most commonly
  104. W32/Magistr@MM, the details of this HOAX message are not based on actual
  105. events.

  107. We are advising users who receive the email to delete the message and DO
  108. NOT pass it on as this is how an email HOAX propagates.
