Subject: Re: BB: Ham Radio Call Signs:
To eveyone in the Beehive Beemers. I am a certified IDIOT. The last thing I
intended was to cause any topic of conversation to emerge among my fellow
Beehive Beemers. 90% of my intended use of a ham license involves
motorcycling. There are actually a fair amount of our members that share that
pursuit as well. I just thought it would be nice to have everyones call signs.
There are of course many ham clubs, I have joined two and they all have great
web pages, and electronic forums for finding out any body in the whole USOFA's
ham sign, home address etc. I will never bring up ham radio or call signs
again in this forum. I will safe it for private conversations, as I should
have in the first place. Please execuse my lack of judgment.
As my father once said, you don't have to be stupid to be a Swaner, but it
sure helps.

I can tell you I was greatly relieved when I say the fine example that Thane
posted for his bio. It was only motorcycles.
I was afraid to mention all of the rotting corpses and family skeletons
hidden in the closet.
yea, I'll do a m/c ing bio. But only if you won't throw me out of the club

"Membership Renewal Now Due - Last Issue". I paid my dues 4 weeks ago.
Was this a targeted message or was it on all copies?

Gavin,
The "renewal notice" was printed on all copies of the stinger as a general
reminder. Come to think of it even on the ones that went to Ted's for the
club wall's complimentary copies.

Roy,
Anne Larsen keeps the renewal list till latter this month then she gives me
a copy and I start deleting the addresses of the folks who do not renew.
Actually it might be easier if Mike Clark or Ken Bertran could show me how
to setup a macro that would sort those who have and have not renewed yet.
So I could just mark a column and then the mail merge would only address the
renewed members. Every year we have some, many who renew late. and it has
required me to delete their data just to re-enter it 6 weeks later.

Andy, and others on the list...
Your point is well taken that there should be more information on the
club's web page about what's happening with the club. Our VP has been
working very hard to get the club activity schedule finalized for the
coming year, and currently has it pretty well in place. Check this
month's Stinger. This Information will be included and updated as
necessary on the club's web page.
Now you have questioned the discussions of Ham radio on the mail list.
Just mark it up as initial enthusiasm for some of our club members who
have recently obtained their license and are discovering the potential
for enhanced motorcycle communications between rider and passenger, and
bike to bike. I know not everyone will be interested in this topic, but
I believe it can be useful to anyone who may wonder about the
possiblilities, particularly in light of recent advances in technology
regarding cell phones and radio spectrum where licensing in not required.
Get on your soap box any time you have concerns; that's what makes the
mail list interesting.

Thane,
While I have never even thrown a leg over a Harley, YES it can get very
distasteful. To the point, so much so that I never watched an episode of
"Dallas" since it reminded me way too much of family life.

Ha Ha! That explains the pain...you should really be using some sort of
database manager. If you have Microsoft Office you should have Excel, which
can be used as a basic DBM. If you have Access, you can really go wild. I
have both, and would be happy to organize the data for you and build the
macros you need to manage it. Lemme know, Big Deav!
Meanwhile, a joke from the Evil Empire:
You are in an elevator with Bill Gates, Saddam Hussein, and Idi Amin. You
have a gun, but only two bullets - how do you use them?
Answer: shoot Bill twice - don't take any chances!

Hey Brian...
You got me. I forgot I was communicating with a potentially larger
audience than just Tom. No REAL criticism was intended, but it did
expose a chink in by diplomacy. If I really cared what anyone rode,
would I have a Ural?

Mike,
I agree that communication while riding enhances the ride and am currently =
investigating a communication system and would be interested to hear what =
all of you suggest. If there is a link or a page that discuss the =
benefits of Ham Radio versus other methods of communication, this would be =
useful, but to just list call signs, I don't see the point. I am not =
against putting the call signs out there but if it is the ONLY information =
on the site then I have a concern. =20
The addition of the calendar looks good and the info is very helpful. =20

We aren't a garbage collection agency either, and the highway cleanup
doesn't even come close to enhancing anyone's enjoyment of riding.
However, I think that most would agree that it should be posted on the
web site because it's a club activity.=20
Similarly, communication while riding enhances the ride to some, so it
would not be inappropriate to put on the site to allow club members to
communicate while riding. It's a small thing to do, so I offered.=20
In addition to enhancing the ride, it offers an extra level of safety
and protection to a rider to be able to communicate with others,
particularly when the you're out of cell phone range.
Now, as a mater of privacy, it's not likely to happen, so no worries.
As for the schedule of upcoming events, I'll put it on the site when I
get it. (Hint, Hint :-) ).
