Hi Val -
Are we still planning on Sunday to ride? I have friend up here who just
got a new Yamaha the other day (a different friend than I was asking
about before) and she might want to go also.
There's lots of great places we could go.

To the Dali Barber:
The Utah British Bike Club have an annual Torrey Campout the same weekend as
Paonia. I would suggest that you put them in touch with Tom Kullen or Rick
Pellegrino for details. I also suspect that both of them have left for the
Lunatic Fringe Rally.

The Vincent Vapor Lock Rally sponsored by the Utah British Bike Club is in
Torrey, UT July 17-19 at Thousand Lakes Campground (435-425-3500 for cabin
reservations, no reservation needed for camping). Also lots of hotels in
area. You can call my husband Tim for more details - usually several BMWs
are present and I believe that there will once again be a fantastic ride to
Escalante over Boulder Mountain on Sat.----------

Subject: BB: July 4th Parade
Date: 03 Jul 1998 20:04:29 -0600
For anyone that is interested-There is a newly formed Park City
Motorcycle Club which is open to anyone no matter where you live or what
you ride with a goal of putting on a lot of day rides and hopefully to
schedule a Park City Motorcycle weekend open to all clubs and dealers.
There are quite a number of BMWs in the club.
On July 4th they will be in the parade and anyone is invited. If you
haven't been to a Park City parade-it is quite different from the usual
parades in Utah-with such things like the lawn mower precision drill
team, and floats offering alot more diversity than the day's of 47.
Anyway St. Mary's is sponsering a breakfast in the park across from
the firehouse on Park Ave $5.00 from 7:00-10:00 am. The club will meet
at the second level of the China Bridge parking structure in Swede Alley
(runs parallel behind Main Street) starting at 9:30-or 10:00. The
parade starts at 11:00am. I heard a rumour that Ted was even going to
show. Any questions call me at 649-7169.
Cheers,
Tom

The Oilheads Rolling Rally will be coming through Park City tomorrow on
their way to Paonia. Steve Couborn-President of the Oilheads and
girlfriend will be staying at Kullen Bed & Breakfast Tuesday nite.
I have arranged to have dinner at Texas Red's Pit Bar-B-Que on
Main Street Park City at 7:00pm. As of today-I'm waiting to hear from
Steve as to the approximate number. I will also schedule breakfast the
next morning as soon as I get a count so we don't end up squeezing
everyone into to small a place. So if anyone is interested-please let
me know so I can give Texas Red's an approximate count. Also for those
riding and parking their bikes on Main St.-Motorcycles are excempt from
having to feed the the meters-a benefit of having a mayor and city
council members that ride (BMWs).

Vic,
You should have come anyway! Bring the bike, the wife, the land barge, the
car, the dog, the kids, etc. I took Anne and both boys in the minivan and
had a wonderful time. True, we did not get to go riding w/ the crew. In
fact, we weren't invited to come along for diner. But, that was alright.
Beehive Beemers took 3rd place for largest club. Surprised me. Anne says,
"its a boutique for men." I got several really neat items, some for the
bike some for me.

Judging by the array of bikes lined up outside Doug's trailer on
Saturday afternoon, I suspect they may be staying over an additional
day just to get everyone finished up and on their way. And if they
had any bikes available to them, I'm sure that Doug and Andrew would
love the opportunity to spend a day terrorizing the passes in western
Montana. The real question is how Jason will survive the initiation,
and what the long-term effects will be...
We missed you at the rally! Are you going to Paonia or Cashmere???

out great. I didn't sell the K-bike at the rally but on the way
back to salt lake a man approached me at a gas station and offered to
buy it on the spot, so cindy and I unloaded it from the truck. He
took a short test ride on it then gave me a check and took
possession. After selling the k-bike about half hour down the road
my R/RT lost all power. It happened so fast that I thought I had run
out of gas. I checked the fuses but they were fine, it may be the
diode board. Luckily cindy had the truck right there and we managed
to get it into the back to finish the trip.

Hi all;
I trust that our Paonia contingent is having fun. Is anyone planning
on going to the Cashmere Rally (Washington) the weekend of the 30th??
If so, when are you leaving?? I'm planning on pulling out Wednesday
morning, OH-dark-30 to beat the heat. Possible layover in Oregon.
Also, is there anything going on next weekend?? Rallies, cool-off
rides to the high mountain country, campouts, etc...????

Missed you at Paonia. Bill Weyher and Bob got pulled over in Colordado for
Speed. It was between Rangely and Dinosaur. They were slightly ahead of me and
I had time to slow down. One of the hotest rides home I have ever had. Not to
many Beehiver's at Paonia. This Saturday is highway clean up and Bob Jensen
and I were thinking about seeing if people wanted to camp at Franklin or
someplace else after.

Hello all,
Having just returned from the National and Paonia I have no idea if
this one's been mentioned, but here goes:
A BMW saddlebag with contents was found by a motorist in the Pintler
Mountain Region of Montana, just east of Missoula, during the MOA
National. If this is yours, or you know who'd like it back, contact
Chapparal Fine Arts in Bozeman, MT at 406-585-0029 (10:00 am until
5:30 pm MDT) and ask for the most lovely Maria. She can put you in
contact with the finder.

up the same road. If you are serious about camping at Franklin I
could run up Friday afternoon and try to tie down a few campsites...

I just spoke with Ray Gomez, our highway drop man to double check the time
he will be making the drop. He said he would make the drop at 8:00 am. That
allows for those who choose to start earlier than nine. The vests have been
freshly launderd----------we should be able to escape by 10:30-11:00 and
make a run for it.d

Has anyone done anything about figuring out a place to camp tomorrow night.
Bob and I are planning on bringing our camping gear and I bought cigars.

Critonian;
I haven't tied anything down at Albert Moser--didn't seem to be a lot
of interest expressed on the list. I'd be willing to bet that there's
camp spots available up there, tho--the weather today was just
threatening to scare off a lot of the locals. See you tomorrow
morning.

Just returned from a 700 mile interstate blitz from The Dalles, OR,
after 9 days in the Pacific NW and West Coast. The RT performed
flawlessly after a minor adjustment at Ride West BMW in Seattle. I
HIGHLY recommend the roads around Mt. Saint Helens. All lane dividers
are broken yellow. Pass at your own discretion. Very cool. Anyway, 3K
miles later and it's time for rest and an oil change. More on the trip
later.

Glad you're back. I also enjoy the northwest. Devern and I are leaving for the
Washington State rally at Cashmere Washington on wednesday evening. When we
went to that rally two years ago, Ride West had just become a dealer and where
there and they adjusted both DeVern's and my clutch for free. There mechanic
was very nice. We had about 16 people for the highway clean up today. Bob
Jensen and I returned by East Canyon and coming down from the Morgan Side, the
valley below was foggy and it reminded me of crossing the alps many years ago.
We heard from DeVern today the Jan Cutler has shut down Reno BMW. It is sad to
see such a great dealership close its doors. DeVern didn't have a lot of
details.
Anyway glad you're back and had a safe trip.

Anyone know how to test a voltage regular on a 88 R100RT ??
the battery dies on any long rides. (like it did on sunday)
The generator light does not stay on.
any hints would be great

Jeff

Jeff-
I had the same problem a year ago on my 1976 R90/6. Don't try to
second guess the problem. I not the best moto repair guy, but I tried
fixing it myself with a meter & BMW spec book plus $150 replacement
goodies to no sucess. I lost most of a summer of good riding time.
Go to BMW of SLC, get them to do the check, order the parts and at
best do the labor yourself to save $$$.
My old shop teacher would say to leave electrical problems to those who
understand "ZAP".
Best of riding to you and yours,
Chris Briggs

Hello Lenny,
I sorry, I had forgotten that I e-mailed you a few weeks ago about
this bike.
Let me give you some background about what I'm trying to do with my four
young sons and introducing them to motorcycles. I don't know if you're a
"Dad", if you are, you're know were I'm coming from.
My first son will take the MSF basic course later this fall. A good
friends is helping us get a working "trainee" Honda 250cc as a first
motorcycle. My friend is getting some good old janitorial work done from
my son in exchange for the bike.
The second step of the plan is to "graduate" to a better road bike
after 6-9 months of the small Honda. This way oldest son and dad can
ride on over-nighters here in Utah. Oh, did I say I ride a restored 1976
R90/6.
The final part of the plan is to have son buy his own late model
BMW in a few years. In all of this my son wants to take flight school
and become a airplane pilot. I guess it could be worse, I could be
asking for discounted flight time...
I'm trying to make this plan work for each of four sons on a shoe
string budget and as I said before this is a "Father and Sons" thing.
One advantage on our side in this whole BMW process is we have a
retired gentlemen as a certified BMW mechanic donating his time to help
my son get a motor running.
Lenny, let me ask some questions:
(1) What price are you asking?
(2) Where do you live and how far from Salt Lake City?
(3) What time frame would the BMW need to be purchased before you
move?
(4) Can you supply a more complete description of the condition of the
cycle?
(5) Do you want to find a good "home" to a classic BMW?
(6) What motorcycle(s) do you ride now?
I hope I have not bored you with a too long story, but let's explore
the possibility of getting that motor back on the road.
Best Wishes, Chris Briggs

Good news. Jeff Smith and Dick Mann were in Park City this weekend and
met with members of the newly formed Park City Motorcycle Club, the
Chamber Bureau, Police, Fire, and city officials. They toured the town
and the race sites-the road race will go around the city golf course,
flat rack in Heber, MX, trials, and Concours in Deer Valley. Chris
Drayer is the contact person between the AHRMA and Park City. Jeff left
yesterday and gave PC two thumbs up and the chamber bureau, fire and
city gave their approval-so it look good right now.
Cheers,
Tom

them. Maybe we can get an expedition organized.
