  556. copy of our Internal Revenue 501C3 Documentation. Can any former officer's or 
  557. current, look in their stuff and see if they have a copy. I remember getting 
  558. a copy after we incorporated the Beehive Beemers and were given a Federal, ID 
  559. number many years ago, but don't know currently who may have that in their 
  560. possession. That is all that is keeping us from receiving the donation of 
  561. service from Xmission.

  595. At one point in time we had made binders for each of the officers.  
  596. Each binder was divided into segments, all material related to the 
  597. performance of duties for a specific office was to be maintained in 
  598. the binders.  Some offices, such as editor, also had an accordion 
  599. file or storage box full of other materials as well-- past copies of 
  600. Stingers, copies of each iteration of the bylaws, tax records, etc.  
  601. Does this information or these binders no longer exist??  We need 
  602. to have some formal system of passing on the portfolio to incoming 
  603. officers.

  713. Mike & Gary:  The rides sounded great.  Gary, you brought up a point that I am
  714. pondering:  How do you all stay dry and warm?  As I ease back into this lovely
  715. sport after a number of years off, I'm finding all kinds of options for all
  716. kinds of weather/riding style/bike.  I recently read a letter in BMWON (Feb 01,
  717. pg. 6) where the author suggested layering with nylon at the skin, more after
  718. that and an outer shell.  In the same issue (pg 30) the authors give the pluses
  719. and minuses about full suits and related gear.  At the BMW of SLC open house, I
  720. talked to several enthusiasts who wore an arrangement of clothing.  Everything
  721. from the full Aerostitch suits to complete electrics.  What I have noticed in my
  722. brief "resurrected" riding career is that it's really inconvenient to stop and
  723. throw on a plastic rain suit when the really serious weather hits.
  724.  
  725. What do you folks wear when the weather is "nice" and when it's otherwise?

  746. Dress in layers.  Layer 1= nylon mesh underwear (looks kinky as 
  747. hell, but nothing else keeps your skin surface as dry and, 
  748. consequently, warm).  Layer 2= a thin layer of polypropylene long 
  749. johns or polypro fleece.  Layer 3= uninsulated Gerbing electric 
  750. jacket liner.  Layer 4= "300" fleece or, better yet, a Wiggy's 
  751. sweater up top and fleece pants on the bottom.  Layer 4= 
  752. Aerostich suit.  For temps below 20 degrees add nylon rain pants 
  753. over the stich and, if the wind is blowing or conditions are wet, a 
  754. nylon rain suit jacket over the stich.  Yes, the Stitch will keep you 
  755. dry through most rain or sleet, but the outer surface will eventually 
  756. soak up water and the evaporative cooling makes it a tough go to 
  757. keep warm.  For hands, I just use well-insulated gloves and heated 
  758. grips down to about 20 degrees, then add chemical heat paks in 
  759. the top side of the glove.  Feet have never been a problem for me, 
  760. just good thick acrylic or wool socks.  Gotta love those R-bikes...
  761.  
  762. Keeping cool:
  763.  
  764. Layer 1= Moisture transport underwear, no seams on bottom of 
  765. legs.  REI and other vendors have these available, they are often 
  766. sold as liners for bicycle shorts.  Another good option is the 
  767. traditional silk long johns, but beware-- they take on a life of their 
  768. own by the end of the day and thus require nightly rinsing and 
  769. upkeep.  Layer 2:  Upper= long sleeve cotton tee, preferably heavy 
  770. weight and with a substantial collar.  Lower= lightweight jeans or, 
  771. better yet, parachute pants (if you can stand to be seen in them) or 
  772. surgical scrubs.  Layer 3= Aerostich suit.  Soak the tee shirt, zip 
  773. up the stich to the neck and open all the vents-- built-in evaporative 
  774. cooling that lasts for quite some time.  Wear gloves and keep all 
  775. skin covered to prevent windburn and dehydration.  Most people 
  776. who complain about fatigue when riding in hot weather really aren't 
  777. fatigued, they are dehydrated and don't realize it.  This will 
  778. especially catch up to you after midnight.

  836. DeVern is an experienced, long distance rider who's opinion about apparel I
  837. would definitly respect. I will throw mine out from the point of view of
  838. someone who's not so hard-core.

  840. To keep warm:

  842. From inner to outer: thin t-shirt, gerbing electric jacket liner (hooked to
  843. a power regulator, not just a switch), thin nylon bicycle shirt (bought at
  844. R.E.I.). The bicycle shirt is tight, pressing the surface of the jacket
  845. liner to the body, maximizing it's heat-transfer. On top of  that, a long
  846. sleeve t-shirt (Red Rock Rendzvous of course!). The outer layer is usually
  847. either a Cycloak, a 'stich, or my BMW Kalahari Suit with the liner
  848. installed. The point is, is that all three of theses riding suits have
  849. Gortex liners. The 'stich has 0 insulation, the Kalahari has some and the
  850. Cycloak has the most. Any of them is a find riding suit. I carry a
  851. thinsulate jacket to put on top of that if I get cold, which is rare.
  852.  
  853. On my legs, it's usually Grammicci pants. These are thin, cotton hinking
  854. pants. You can get them at REI and I wear them as normal daily pants too.
  855. When I think I'll be hitting really cold weather, I'll wear long underwear
  856. under the pants.
  857.  
  858. BMW Gortex boots on the feet, with thick hiking socks. Very comfortable boot
  859. that I highly recommend.
  860.  
  861. For gloves, I use a set of Olympia insulated gloves. They aren't really
  862. thick, but the heated grips go along way towared mitigating the need for
  863. thick, thick winter gloves.
  864.  
  865. To keep cool:
  866.  
  867. BMW Kalahari Suit with the liner removed and the sleeve vents open over a
  868. thin t-shirt. When it's really hot, a long-sleeved t-shirt, soaked to
  869. refusal (bit of a shocker putting that on) with the vents and neck of the
  870. suit zipped up. The suit material breaths pretty well on its own and with
  871. the wet shirt, you can extend your riding time.

  880. I have to echo DeVern's comments above. Know your physical limits and the
  881. limits of your riding ability. Ride your own ride and keep an eye on your
  882. physical condition. Good riding gear is not a substitute for common sense
  883. and self-awarness.

  885. When it's hot, drink, drink, drink. You should be peeing when it's hot.
  886. Stopping for a call of nature is a good thing. Some people carry camel backs
  887. and run the straw just under their helmet. I don't do that, but I make sure
  888. I have a .5 liter bottle of water in the tank bag, and a 1 liter bottle of
  889. water somwhere else on the bike. Stop and take in the scenery once in a
  890. while, and while you're at it, have some water. Gatoraid or some other kind
  891. of sports drink helps too. Your brain needs sugar, and you need your brain
  892. when you're riding.

  894. In the past (not as distant as I'd like to admit), I've gotten off the bike
  895. and felt almost drunk from the fatigue of dehydration.

  1030. especially like the "bikini" vote.  While shock radio isn't my cup of tea, I
  1031. respect the local community's wish to support that kind of format.  However,
  1032. when the safety and welfare of others are compromised by some adolescent
  1033. "shock" jocks, that's toooo much.  I spent a large part of my early adult life
  1034. working in radio broadcast.  For the most part the industry is comprised of
  1035. responsible, well meaning people.  However, the industry also attracts some of
  1036. most unbalanced, amoral types that habitate the planet.  That small
  1037. percentage, as in all social groups, sullies the larger well meaning,
