Right, then. This post is 100% pure drivel. Mark it read, and move on.
Nothing of any benefit to anyone will be found within this post - all
filler, no beef.
Didn't I already *TELL* you to move on? Why are you still reading
this???

Uh, Ron? In fairness, wouldn't that be more like "Bagpipes, eh?"?

I do have to say, in all fairness, that this looks like and attempt at
'control' from a control freak. No replies, means you are cutting out
the other side of the story, at least.

Hey, the judges are saying it ... and we're not staying in Grade 2.
After the Worlds we had one contest left, and then up we go.

Again, the competition season is over, we'll be in Grade 1 next year,
what's the BFD?
It's only bothersome to argue piddling points of semantics ... the
rest of the world knows what we're talking about.
I cease arguing -- this is like Monty Python's Argument Clinic ...

The short version: Simply put, why does my bass drone strike in an octave high sometimes?
etc,....etc.,,,,
I have exactly the same problem with the EZ tenors..........bass is usually OK, but not always.........
My close female piper friend (20 years experience), will often, take my pipes, smile sweetly, and go thru three or four strike ins in which all three drones come in perfectly every time ...........no squeals, no double tones, no nothing...........................without exception.......she has never had one of my drones do anything other than come in on freq and stable......
"nice pipes" she sais and hands them back...............I do it...... and its crap again !!........... the drones do always snap in when I bring the chanter in.
not sure which is more frustrating, the smile, or the perfect strike ins.................
She seems to hit the bag sideways rather than vertically as I usually do.....she uses a flat hand rather than the finger tips as I do..........she doesn't hit it as hard as I do................and the way she handles the bag I get the impression that she is keeping a constant air pressure on the reeds as she swings the bag under her arm.
I think many of us "attack the reeds with adjustments" when we should be studying the art of striking in instead.
Only positive thing is ......she does have such a nice smile.........I just wish she didn't use it when striking in my pipes !..................

Sorry, Tim. I grew up in Virginia. I get the odd flashback sometimes and
forget where I am! (The odd time I've woken up in Oz... or is it this NG?)
