  27. convention on this list and ask them to reject the platform plank in favor

  57. Anni Rainbow and Lindis Percy of the Campaign for the Accountability of =
  58. American Bases CAAB (focussed on Menwith Hill and Fylingdales in =
  59. particular) continue to be arrested for peaceful actions at Menwith Hill =
  60. and Fylingdales in opposition to the American Ballistic Missile Defense =
  61. programme and the crucial role of these bases in the National Missile =
  62. Defense system.

  64. On 8 August 2000 Anni quietly opened a gate of the new high-security =
  65. perimeter fence (which now has CCTV cameras in operation) and went into =
  66. the 'operations area' before being arrested by the Ministry of Defence =
  67. police (MDP) under the controversial and legally unsafe Military land =
  68. byelaws.  She was not taken before a custody officer but 'de-arrested' =
  69. without charge or further action. We hope to start a legal action =
  70. concerning the byelaws soon. =20

  72. We have also been arrested many times at Fylingdales (one of five bases =
  73. to be up-graded in the proposed NMD system) and again the MDP are =
  74. 'flouting' the law.  At Fylingdales Lindis Percy has had spurious =
  75. charges brought against her by the MDP.  She has several cases pending.
  76.  
  77. CAAB is paying weekly attention to any new planning applications which =
  78. may be submitted to Harrogate Planning office.  We are particularly =
  79. monitoring Fylingdales for any new developments.  It was by regularly =
  80. checking the plans at Menwith Hill that we first discovered in 1996/7 =
  81. that two Space Based Infra Red System (SBIRS) radomes were to be built =
  82. and that the base was to be a crucial part of the BMD programme.  After =
  83. a long struggle to get the issue raised in the media NMD is now almost =
  84. daily discussed.

  86. The legal action in the High Court London (which seeks a Declaration =
  87. that by the building of two SBIRS radomes at Menwith Hill international =
  88. law is breached) is at an interesting stage.  The Claim was issued in =
  89. the High Court in October last year (see CAAB website: =
  90. http://www.gn.apc.org/caab/ ).  The next hearing will probably be in =
  91. October and will now be in open court.  Lindis Percy is to be =
  92. represented by a Queens Councillor.=20

  94. On Saturday 5 August 19 Friends and one dog attended the bi-monthly =
  95. Quaker Meeting for Worship outside NSA Menwith Hill. At the beginning of =
  96. Meeting, partly in commemoration of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we read =
  97. aloud the 'Litany of Remembrance for the Nuclear Age' (posted on the =
  98. Abolition 2000 List by Pamela Meidell and read aloud outside the =
  99. Holocaust Museum in Washington DC on 16 July 2000). After Meeting a copy =
  100. of the Litany was handed in to the Ministry of Defence police on duty =
  101. just inside the base.=20

  104. NSA Menwith Hill to protest at preparations for the American National =
  105. Missile Defense system. In solidarity with our brothers and sisters =
