  30. of one of three "The Target is Peace, only Peace is Victory" logo designs
  31. received so far to empower a global peace-environment-justice movement
  32. inspired by the tragedy unfolding now in the Balkans and the civilian use of
  33. the target symbol on television in Belgrade.  If you or someone you know
  34. would like to offer an additional design, please send .jpg sized.

  36. If one or more of these, or others they may inspire, catch on in widespread
  37. usage shown in the media, it will help solidify the desire for "Global Peace
  38. Now!" as a universal human resolve, which is the goal of the Global Peace
  39. Walk project.  These logos may be freely used without attribution in
  40. buttons, t-shirts, etc., to help promote this resolve and the recognition
  41. that Peace itself is the Target and only Peace is Victory!

  43. Two other designs ("Peace is the Target" and "Color Global Peace Target")

  355. federal officials mingled with executives whose corporations are kicking in
  356. $250,000 apiece for the NATO summit.

  358. Schmoozing and talking business with leaders from 43 foreign countries and
  359. the United States are part of the payoff for American corporate sponsors
  360. helping finance the receptions, logistics and hoopla surrounding NATO's
  361. 50th anniversary. The summit begins Friday in Washington.

  363. General Motors, Ameritech and Boeing are among 13 companies so far that
  364. have donated at least a quarter-million dollars in cash or goods and
  365. services. That buys one of their executives a spot on the summit host
  366. committee's board of directors, which is dominated by communications and
  367. defense companies.

  369. The committee has raised $6.5 million towards its goal of $8 million. 
  370.  
  371. ''It's a natural for us, because Ameritech is the largest foreign investor
  372. in European telecommunications,'' company spokesman George Steinitzer said.
  373. ''Our purpose here is to support our existing relationships in Europe.''

  375. Ameritech is awaiting Federal Communications Commission permission to merge
  376. with another company with a seat on the host committee board, SBC
  377. Communications.

  380. alongside the committee chairman, former U.S. ambassador to Belgium Alan
  381. John Blinken. He is a senior adviser to a heavyweight lobbying firm with
  382. overseas clients, Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld.

  384. Other board members also are well known in Washington political circles. As
  385. a group, the 13 companies spent $52 million on lobbying last year.

  387. Giving at least $25,000 to join the committee are 28 other company
  388. including defense contractors Northrop Grumman and Raytheon; The Washington
  389. Post Foundation; and the lobbying firm Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard,
  390. McPherson and Hand, which also represents foreign clients.

  392. ''It's a great opportunity for these businesses,'' host committee
  393. spokeswoman Dana Vickers Shelley said. ''The heads of government and the
  394. heads of state will be there, but included in their delegations will be
