Subject: Kosovo Situation
Date: Thursday, April 15, 1999 10:38 PM
Dear David,
I appreciate so much for your commitment to peace. Thank you for sharing
your
heart via e-mails.
My heart has been crying out for the people of Yugoslavia.
I still remember something about what I learned while I was in theological
seminary studying the Jewish history. One of things that still stuck in my
mind and heart is that the nation, any nation regress is not because lack of
technology or knowledge, but it is disjunctiveness to its history.
(something
like that).
As I think current Yugoslavia situation in which the President Clinton seems
enjoying himself with what perceived "leadership," as the
Commender-in-Chief,
ordering and escalating bombing on Kosovo/Serbia. But to what end?
I wish I could say so many things, but here are my thoughts. I've expressed
two different format. Please bear with me as I share them with you.
(unedited).
AIR STRIKES ON KOSOVO/BELGRADE
DO THESE AIR STRIKES CONSTITUTE AN ENDLESS RAGING WAR IN HUMAN HEARTS or
A "CONTROLLING" POWER OVER 'WEAKER' NATION?
As a survivor of Hiroshima, I have been profoundly troubled by our
involvement in Yugoslavia and unable to support. Here are reasons:
1. Do the President Clinton and US Congress, and 18 NATO leaders believe
that
ethnic historical conflicts and hatred among Balkan's nations can be
resolved
by "air-strikes"?
2. Do ambivalent objectives of air strikes on Kosovo led me to believe that
these leaders have no understanding of the single objective of war is to
fight to "win"?
3. Their talks about "morality" is nothing but easy way out--the least
possible risk -- to themselves, and have no perception of what true "price"
of peace is!
4. Do NATO leaders have intention of "total reconstruction" of "defeated"
nation of Serbia/Kosovo, as America did on Japan's and other Europe nations,
after the World War II, let alone, over refugees' plight?
5. While Milosevic's "ethnic cleansing" is intolerable, escalating of exodus
of refugees since the bombings, why the President Clinton and NATO leaders
are unwilling to sacrifice their lives--to die in order that others may
live!
6. It is only then I accept compelling "morality" as NATO's reason and our
involvement in this "bloody-war".
Sincerely,
Thomas Takashi Tanemori

An Opinion--An Essay on Kosovo Crisis
By: Thomas Takashi Tanemori
As we approach the coming 21st Century, we mark a time that has been
distinguished by both copious bloodletting and enormous scientific advances.
On a daily basis, we are overwhelmed with the horrors of international
violence, cultural violence, religious and personal violence. Much of the
suffering is a result of historical conflicts that have devolved into an
unending cycle of revenge and despair. But now, we find that some of this
violence is in danger of, and capable of, destroying the whole world.
I often wonder whether or not President Clinton, as Commander-in-Chief, has
idea of what true "price" of peace is! He himself, for an example,
demonstrated his true color of who he is during Vietnam war; and he thinks
his own conduct was vindicated by the former Defense Secretary MacNamara's
Book: In Retrospect: The Tragedy and Lessons of Vietnam is abominable.
I'm afraid that talk about "morality" by President Clinton, the US Congress
and political leaders of the 19 (NATO) nations is nothing but easy way out
and the least possible risk -- to themselves. It is morality is one of
convenience, when these leaders have neither political nor personal will to
commit themselves for peace-UNWILLINGNESS to die in order that others may
live. Ambivalently the President of United States committed our troops to
this region in 1995, and four years later today in the same ethnic region
the
carnage of Kosovo/Serbia demonstrates their perennial ethnic
conflicts/hatred
as nations. "Why, with the hope for peace generated from the end of the Cold
War, is the world increasingly proving that it is still too easy to go to
war
to settle human conflicts?"
The air strikes on Kosovo by NATO, have led me to this inevitable question:
Do the Prime Minister of Britain, the President of United States and its
Congress, honestly believe that we can resolve their ethnic conflicts,
hatred
and historically complex political/cultural and national enmities? These are
issues are difficult to extinguish when countries have been at war for so
long; how ludicrous we have become?
I cringed to learn what NATO calls as "all out" air campaign theatre is no
longer stop or degrading, crippling Milosevic's own military power so that
this "ethnic cleansing" does not spread to the rest of Europe. But NATO is
now driven only by its rapacious will to political "unification" of the NATO
alliance for the fiftieth Anniversary celebration, God forbid!
As a survivor of Hiroshima, I can't help but wonder "how dare we ourselves
continue on an endless cycle of revengeful actions that we can't reconcile
with our own hearts, let alone our neighbors?"
We survivors bear silent witness to the horrors of war. Our experience gives
us the moral authority to stand for peace. It is essential that national
enmity, ethnic hatred, cultural divisiveness, differing religious beliefs
and
personal conflicts and differences be put to an end. It is important to
recognize that this is also a time of unparalleled opportunity to assist in
the transition of a world order in the direction of peaceful co-operation.
What is the solution? Let us fight the "The Final War"-the most difficult
war
of all-being waged in the name of healing, forgiving, and making peace with
our painful past. The international community must do this not just for our
own sake but also for the sake of our children and the future generations
who
will inherit this earth. Let us give them an earth that is better than the
one we inherited. There may be ways to approach this seemingly
insurmountable
task. When I was young, my father instilled in me what I call the Three-Fold
he taught me has held my heart intact for these decades of darkness wrought
by war and the ghosts of history.
Let us practice these principles in our daily human affairs' (1) "Jidai-
Yusen " sacrifice of one's immediate needs for a higher moral purpose, (2)
"Mugai-Kyoei": reverences for life-respecting others as different
individuals, practicing nonviolence and (3). "Jita-Kyoei": the practice of
living for the benefit of others.
In the "I Ching," the ancient Chinese book of wisdom, the Hexagram of
Breakthrough' ponders how to deal with evil and the horrors of the human
experience. Its conclusion is that "the best way to fight evil is to make
energetic progress in the good."
We might surprise ourselves. When we practice these principles, they can
guide us to work together for the common goal of making the world a peaceful
place in which we all can live together.

Past visited at Seaborg memorial
A Hiroshima bombing victim comes to make peace at service for Nobel laureate
By Chuck Squatriglia, The Time Staff Writer
BERKELEY - Literati converged on UC-Berkeley on Saturday to pay final
tribute
to Nobel laureate Glenn T. Seaborg. Thomas Takashi Tanemori came for a
different reason.
More than 53 years after he survived the nuclear bomb that Seaborg helped
develop, Tanemori wanted to make peace with the past. Tears welled in his
eyes as the last of the anger he had held in his heart for decades slipped
away.
"I want him to know my heart has changed," said Tanemori, 61, of Lafayette,
who at age 8 watched the atomic bomb fall on Hiroshima. "I'm hoping his
spirit senses my desire for peace."
Tanemori joined more than 100 people Saturday in a "circle of sharing" to
memorialize Seaborg. He died Feb. 25 at home in Lafayette at age 86.
The informal ceremony preceded' a memorial service in which many of
Seaborg's
peers waxed lyrical about a man considered one of the finest scientists and
scholars of this century.
"He was a man whose accomplishments created an image of almost mythic
proportions," said Charles Shank, director of Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory,
where Seaborg remained an associate research director until his death.
Seaborg is perhaps best-known for his discovery, with three colleagues, of
plutonium - a feat that earned him the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1951-and
his work on the Manhattan Project, which led to the atomic bomb used by the
United States in World War Il.
During a career that spanned more than 60 years, Seaborg expanded the
periodic table with his discovery of 10 elements - more than any scientist
in
history! He received more than 40 patents, earned dozens of honorary degrees
and wrote more than 500 articles and books.
Beyond the laboratory, Seaborg devoted himself to nuclear nonproliferation
and served on the Atomic Energy Commission under Presidents Kennedy, Johnson
and Nixon. His access to the highest levels of government shaped the
nation's
scientific policy and led to the ratification 1961 of the Limited Test Ban
Treaty.
"I think that legacy is an inspiration to all of us," David Seaborg said in
his eulogy of his father.
Seaborg also was an advocate for education, who instilled in many children a
wonder of science, said Peggy House, director of the Glenn T. Seaborg Center
for Teaching and Leaning Science and Mathematics at Northern Michigan
University.
"The message he conveyed (to children) was any one of them could be the next
great scientist," House said during the informal gathering before the
memorial service Saturday.
Throughout his career, Seaborg remained dedicated to Cal. His tenure as
chancellor from 1958 to 1961 helped forge UC-Berkeley's reputation as a top
research institution, said Clark Kerr, who preceded Seaborg as head of the
university.
"We shall never see his like again," Kerr said.
So deep was Seaborg's love for Cal that he named many of the elements he
discovered in honor of the university, including berkelium (element 97,
discovered in 1949) and californium (element 98, discovered in 1950). He
also
enjoyed reminding friends that the letters of his last name could be
rearranged to spell "Go Bears," friends said. When colleagues immortalized
him in 1997 by naming element 106 .seaborgium," Seaborg suggested they name
it "gobearsium" instead, said legendary Cal Kapp, who was among 100 people
who joined sharing.
Seaborg remained a humble man who often chatted with Cal freshmen and cheer
football team from the stands Memorial Stadium. He enjoyed picnic lunches
with students am member the arcane detail of their research projects, said
former student and one-time colleague John Rasmussen.
"In retrospect, I realized what a wonderful mentor he was for me," said
Darleane Hoffman, a noted research scientist who studied under Seaborg.
Others in the circle spoke of Seaborg's love of hiking and civic
endeavors, which included founding the Lawrence Hall of Science and helping
the East Bay Regional Park District establish a network of trails.
"There was never a man who did more in so many fields so willingly,"
said Dick Trudeau, who joined Seaborg in his efforts with the park
But it was Tanemori's heartfelt testimonial that galvanized the
audience. The crowd fell silent as the retired Baptist minister recounted
the
aftermath of the bomb that fell on August 5, 1945.
The radiation killed his parents, grandparents and several siblings. Even
today, he said, it continues to steal his eyesight. It also infected him
with
a deep hatred for the United States and an insatiable desire to avenge his
loss.
Feeling isolated and ashamed in a culture focused heavily on family, he
attempted suicide at age 16.
Finally he came to the United States in 1956 at age 18, and the anger grew.
On the 40th anniversary of the bombing, Tanemori spoke at a service and
realized he would not know happiness until he let go of his hatred.
Slowly, Tanemori said, he grew to admire Seaborg's dedication to
nuclear nonproliferation and his contributions to science and medicine.
"That helped bring my own change and forgiveness," Tanemori said.
Despite living in the same town as Seaborg, Tanemori never
met the man who was the target of so much of his anger.
"I was glad to have a chance to have a chance to speak my
heart," he said. "I was able to find peace."

Subject: (abolition-usa) What Budget Surplus? Fraudulent Accounting Practices
One of those emails I received that has "slipped through the cracks" was one
I received a couple of months ago and kept meaning to send out with a
commentary but never got around to it and now can't find it. Perhaps
someone can verify exact details.
The gist of the story is that Barrons financial magazine, I believe, was
quoted as publishing the Federal deficit for each of the last two years and
the cumulative annual Federal deficit increased by something on the order of
$300 billion I believe.
What is the point? The much ballyhooed 1999 "Federal Budget Surplus" is a
fraud perpetrated by a change in accounting procedures completely unreported
in the mainstream media whereby all of a sudden without any public
indication of what was happening, the money that normally goes into social
security was reallocated as part of the federal budget. Then the actual
annual deficit was subtracted from this amount and the balance was renamed
the "budget surplus" and all this talk about how it should be spent "to save
social security", etc., is a big con job because we are talking about an
amount of money in fact equal to what was previously allocated to social
security, LESS the actual last annual DEFICIT in the Federal budget.
Now if my understanding is correct here, wouldn't this be quite a scandal
with the media complicit in this coverup of the truth? That is: There is
no budget surplus, only a change in accounting and nominclature to fool the
people! wouldn't any accounting firm be censured and any company fined for
using such deception in fiscal reporting?
Now they are talking about "oh well , looks like we will have to use some of
this budget surplus to pay for the war in Kosovo". This is in reality then
the money that under last year's accounting vocabulary was the normal
deposit to the social security program being used instead to fight a war.
What do you think the vote would have been if people were asked, "shall we
take money from the social security budget and use it to bomb a bunch of
folks in Europe?"
This is such a outright fraud on the American people that it amazes me
almost as much as the history behind how the most valuable plant in human
history, the hemp plant, has been fraudulently outlawed as marijuana,
expunged from the historical record, and the government and media are still
complicit in this parallel historical fraud on the American people and
Congress. (see http://www.jackherer.com)
I hope that my posting this poor excuse for the original email with the
exact source of the deficit numbers will at least suffice to inspire someone
to find the proper numbers and sources to verify this easy to confirm or
refute thesis that I have faithfully depicted above, i.e.,
The "Federal Budget Surplus" is a Fraud

This change in federal budgeting procedures is not new. It was made more than a
decade ago, and over the years it has been widely reported in the press.

This report by Robert Fisk about what he found at the scene of the NATO
bomb attacks on Kosovo refugees, and the evidence showing up NATO's
economy with the truth, is a must read. Are we really to quietly accept,
as our leaders tell us to, that such atrocities are "inevitable" and
excusable because Serbia is doing worse?

This atrocity is still a mystery to Nato. Perhaps I can help...
By Robert Fisk
When you stand at the site of a massacre, two things happen. First, you
wonder about the depths of the human spirit. And then you ask yourself how
many lies can be told about it. The highway of death between Prizren and
Djakovica - on which the Serbs say Nato slaughtered 74 Kosovo Albanian
refugees in a series of bombing raids - is no different.
Only hours after I slipped on a dead man's torso near an old Turkish
bridge, less than a day after I stood by the body of a young and beautiful
girl - her eyes gently staring at me between half-closed lids, the bottom
half of her head bathed in blood - I watched James Shea, Nato's spokesman,
trying to explain yesterday why Nato still didn't know what had happened on
Wednesday.
All those torn and mangled bodies I had just seen - the old man ripped in
half and blasted into a tree at Gradis, the smouldering skeleton with one
bloody, still flesh-adhering foot over the back of a trailer at Terezick
Most, the dead, naked man slouched over the steering wheel of a burnt
tractor - all, apparently, were a mystery to Nato. So perhaps The
Independent can help clear up this unhappy state of affairs with some
evidence - damning perhaps, certainly important - from the scene.
But first a pause, to reflect on atrocities. The Serbs are "ethnically
cleansing" Kosovo. It is a war crime. If Nato massacred the 74 Albanians,
the Serbs have killed many more. On Thursday, I saw four buses in Kosovo
packed with terrified Albanian women and children and old men, black
curtains at the windows of the buses in an attempt to hide their presence.
And at a square in the otherwise deserted town of Pozeranje, near Urosevac,
I passed at least 200 pathetic Kosovo Albanians, exhausted, frightened,
carrying plastic bags of clothes and battered holdalls, the old women in
scarves, the young women clutching children to their bosoms, the old men
wearing black berets; all were standing tightly together for protection,
like animals.
They were waiting for another bus, I suppose - and, not for the first time
these past three weeks, I thought of other scenes, in Eastern Europe just
over half a century ago. At Pozeranje, I was seeing these poor people - for
a few seconds only, from a vehicle window - at the very moment of their
dispossession, on the very day of their "cleansing", within hours of their
arrival among the flotsam of humanity along the Serbian border 12 miles
away. It was a wickedness I saw, the very moment of evil. When I drove
through Pozeranje again yesterday, it was empty save for four horses
running lose on the main road.
So why dwell on the 74 dead Kosovo Albanians whose remains have been left
in such indignity along the Prizren-Djakovica road? Because the Serbs
wanted us to see them? Because Nato was already embarrassed by the Serb
claims of their slaughter? Because it "evens the balance" --and it does not
-- between Serbia and its enemies?
No, I suspect that the road of death and its terrible corpses is a
challenge not to Nato's propaganda but to its morality. Nato, we are
repeatedly told, represents "us", the good moral, decent people who oppose
lies and murder. So Nato has a case to answer -- for all our sakes. And the
evidence lies on that awful road with its eviscerated people and its bomb
craters.
Nato "thinks" it bombed a tractor on a road north of Djakovica. Indeed,
Nato's military spokesman would say yesterday only that is was "possibly" a
tractor. Mr Shea -- or "Jamie" as he enjoins us to call him -- says he is
still trying to find out what happened to the 74 refugees. Nato needs more
time, he tells us, to assess what it bombed and did not bomb.
Well perhaps I can help Jamie to speed up his enquiries. Of the four
air-strike locations, I have visited the first three -- at Velika Krusa,
Gradis and Terzick Most -- and they run consecutively from east to west
along the Prizren-Djakovica road. At the third, I came across four bomb
craters. I saw -- and in some cases collected -- a number of bomb and
missile parts. At Gradis, I came across part of a missile circuit board,
its congealed wiring attached to a plate which contains a manufacturer's
code.
Yesterday's Independent carried some of this. But Nato will need the
fullest possible information to trace this piece of ordnance quickly. The
full code (the brackets are empty on the original) reads as follows:
SCHEM 872110 ( ) 96214ASSY8721122 - MSN 63341 [remaining figures obscured
by detonation damage]
It shouldn't take Nato armaments experts more than a few hours to find out
where that code came from -- indeed what aircraft carried and fired that
missile. Its pilot -- if it was a Nato bomb - will then be able to explain
why he fired it.
At Velika Krusa, I found the fusing of an aerial bomb next to a smashed
trailer containing the belongings of 35 Albanian refugees, four of whom -
all women - were killed in this air strike. I also have in my possession
what may be a swivel system to an aerial bomb. It is one-inch square, very
damaged (Xs stand for the illegible parts) - but carries the code: "X6214 -
837XNY".
At Gradis, I found a large bomb part, green in colour but with stencilled
colour code in English, whose full code reads:
WING ASSEMBLY
96214ASSY
78-201872 872128
DATE OF MFG 3/78
Another similar bomb part contained the numbers:
96214ASSY
887760-4
At Gradis, too, part of what appeared to be a detonator contained a section
of manufacturer's name:
- TER Co Inc
13250
Again, Nato intelligence authorities should be able to work out some of
those codings within a few minutes. Another piece of a bomb had the single
word "BENDIX" stamped on the metal. Other bomb and missile fragments
contained moving fin assembly parts. Most of the shrapnel was so sharp it
that it cut the hands of those who touched it. The corpses showed what
happened when the bomb parts shredded them alive. One of the bodies lying
in a field at Terezicki Most - that of a man in his 40s - had the top of
his head cut cleanly off, along with his brain and eyes so that his face
had turned into an actor's mask. A middle-aged woman in a purple pullover
and brightly flowered skirt with her eyes open and a pale waxen face, had
had her neck cut open.
Now, maybe Nato will find that these bomb and missile assembly parts
belonged to weapons sold to other governments. Perhaps they will be able to
claim that a Balkan nation was given the aerial bomb whose wing assembly
number is recorded above. In which case, maybe Nato will say that the
Yugoslav air force - of which not a single aircraft has been seen in the
air since the start of the Nato bombardment - carried out this massacre of
Albanian refugees.
Certainly, Yugoslav army officers at the bomb sites made no attempt to
prevent photographers taking pictures of the larger pieces (though they
showed no interest in the codings and seemed unable to understand my
interest). And I saw one photographer drag a piece of bomb several metres
and turn it over for a better photograph. But given the time available and
the chaos on the road - Nato air raids were going on within a mile of us as
we examined the bomb sites - it is impossible to believe that the Serbs had
time to construct these terrible scenes.
At Gradis, there was evidence of strafing as well as aerial bombing. Huge
troughs had been cut into the earth, each two feet in length, separated by
up to 10 feet and unevenly separated as if a drunken monster had lurched
through the field and on to the road. These appeared identical to the
cannon fire marks I found at the scene of American A-10 "Tankbuster"
strikes in the 1991 Gulf War. But there were no burnt-out tanks on the
Prizren-Djakovica road; only tractors and trailers and an old milk-yellow
van turned inside out by the explosion which destroyed it.
Along miles of the same road were other tractors, some scorched, most
abandoned, apparently in panic, at the side of the road. The few Kosovo
Albanians we found spoke of thousands on the road that day - 14 April - and
it appears that they were moving in both directions. Survivors have said
they came from the border, were moved to Djakovica and then told by Serb
forces to move to Prizren. Most say they had no Serb escorts. I saw those
awful buses with the black curtains moving in both directions near Prizren
on Thursday. "Ethnic cleansing" is not a precise art. Nor is fear.
Undoubtedly some of the Kosovo Albanians on the road were terrified of the
aircraft which bombed them in four separate locations. The fourth attack
took place at Meja on the other side of Djakovica.
It wasn't difficult for me to imagine the terror on that road. While we
were picking our way through the corpses of Terezicki Most, Nato planes
dropped bombs less than a mile away - cluster bombs from the sound of them
- and a series of massive explosions changed the air pressure around us. We
watched the skies. From time to time, we could hear - but not see - Nato
jets power-diving. Columns of dark smoke billowed over the bright green
fields.
But we found no military wreckage. Not a smashed rifle, not a piece of
armour. There was a lot of glass on parts of the road - not a commodity to
find in large amounts on military vehicles. The only victims of these air
strikes appeared to be civilians. At Terezicki Most, I counted 13 corpses
and other body parts. A missile had rammed a tractor, setting fire to its
trailer and incinerating all inside. In the Prizren hospital mortuary, six
corpses lay on the concrete floor. There was a woman, breasts exposed, on
the right, a delicate child close to her with a bloodied face. A piece of
paper with the number "1" written on it had been pinned to the shroud half
covering an unknown man. We had names for the rest: Fikrija Sulja, Imer
Celja, Ferat Bajrami, Persad Sanfjli and Nerdgivare Zecin.
Along the road, there were clothes and rags and broken cups and saucers
beside the bomb sites and photograph albums and family snapshots. I picked
up photographs of a pretty young Kosovo Albanian woman with a lace blouse
and curls and long black earrings, of a smiling four-year old boy in a
T-shirt standing on a sofa behind a vase of sunflowers, of the boy's
parents and two other brothers on the same sofa, of two old women in Muslim
scarves and of a blood group certificate - Rhesus positive - for a woman
named Rama Resmije, dated 16 March 1993.
Did she live or die? Were the little boy and his parents and brothers torn
apart in the air strikes on Wednesday? And what of the pretty woman in the
earrings? If they survived, they deserve to know why their family and
friends died. If they were killed, we deserve to know why. That these
people were massacred in air strikes I do not doubt. I fear very much that
they were slaughtered by Nato. If so, why? Was this some terrible error
about which Nato - after its attack on a passenger train last week - fears
to tell us? Or did some Nato pilots (and this massacre needed three or four
planes) make an error and agree to cover it up? Or - most awful of all -
did a Nato pilot do something terrible, inexplicable, two days ago and then
lie about it?
Nato, I suspect, can tell us. And those of us who walked among the innocent
dead on the road from Prizren to Djakovica this week are waiting to hear
Jamie tell the truth.

Hello everyone
I have 2 updates ready to send you about the war in Kosovo, This one is a
compilation of various texts presenting some perspectives you won't find =
in
the mainstream (elite-controlled) media. Some of this might appear
discouraging or even disempowering. Yet, unless enough people become awar=
e
of such information and analysis of what is going on, it is likely that
indeed we will be powerless to stop this. Of course information of that
undisclosed kind is not the only way to disarm the elite conspiracy (in m=

view) behind this war. The spiritual all-pervading influence of
peace-nudging meditations are also a formidable instrument of harmony and
sanity we can all continue to use daily to counter such ploys.
We are in the thick of it. Let's keep this world afloat

You wanted to hear how it is here now.
Here you are. It is midnight and I have just heard a bang. I don't know i=

it is a bomb which fell or our air defence (is it the real term?) which

I opened the window just in case, as it is suggested we do that (it saved

The Big Lie About Kosovo
by Richard Poe
"Save the Albanian Kosovars!" Clinton cries. "Save the
Sudeten Germans!" Hitler trumpeted in 1938. The
names have changed, but the strategy remains the same.
For more than 50 years, we Americans have looked
down our noses at the Germans, for having followed
Hitler so blindly. But now it's our turn. We are proving
no more resistant to propaganda than those cheering
crowds in Leni Riefenstahl's Triumph of the Will.
Back in the 1930s, Adolf Hitler needed an excuse to
seize Czechoslovakia. So he invented one. Three and a
quarter million ethnic Germans lived in the
Sudetenland, under Czech rule. As William L. Shirer
recounts in The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, Hitler
secretly funded an extremist group called the Sudeten
German Party and ordered it to provoke an uprising
against the Czechs.
Kosovo, too, appears to have been destabilized by
outside forces. For years, Kosovars protested Milosevic
peacefully. But in 1997, a group called the Kosovo
Liberation Army (KLA) suddenly started shooting. Who
were these people?
The Times of London (March 24, 1999) described the
KLA as "a Marxist-led force funded by dubious
sources, including drug money." European police
suspect the KLA of connections to Albanian gangsters.
At least two of the group's backers appear to have been
the CIA and the German spy agency BND, according to
intelligence analyst John Whitley, quoted in the Truth in
Media Global Watch Bulletin (April 2, 1999).
The purpose of staging a provocation is to create a
backlash. This strategy certainly worked for Hitler in
1938. As unrest spread in the Sudetenland, the Czechs
cracked down. Czech President Eduard Benes ordered
troops into the region and declared martial law.
Right on cue, the German press went wild. "Women and
Children Mowed Down by Armored Cars," ran a typical
Berlin newspaper headline in September 1938. "Poison
Gas Attack on Aussig" cried another.
Hitler accused Benes of waging a "war of
extermination" against Sudeten Germans. "The
Germans he now drives out!" cried Hitler, in a
September 16, 1938 speech. "We see the appalling
figures: on one day 10,000 fugitives, on the next
20,000... and today 214,000. Whole stretches of country
were depopulated, villages are burned down, attempts
are made to smoke out the Germans with
hand-grenades and gas."
Sound familiar? Hitler's rhetoric bears an eerie
resemblance to the CNN news blitz on Kosovo. Of
course, Hitler was exaggerating. Many of the atrocities
he alleged later turned out to be fabrications. But the
same is true of our newscasts on Kosovo.
Take the alleged massacre of 45 Albanian civilians at
Racak, for instance, reported in January 1999. Forensic
and other evidence now suggests that the bodies were
those of KLA guerrillas killed in combat.
The hoax has been widely discussed in the European
press (including Le Monde, Die Welt, Le Figaro and the
BBC). But U.S. news outlets have been as silent on the
controversy as if they were taking orders from Goebbels
himself.
In the Sudeten crisis, Hitler claimed to be inspired by
internationalist ideals. "Among the fourteen points
which President Wilson promised ..." the Fuhrer
proclaimed, "was the fundamental principle of the
self-determination of all peoples ..." By freeing the
Sudeten Germans, Hitler argued, he was fulfilling
Wilson's vision.
Clinton too claims he is fighting for human rights. But
ethnic cleansing does not bother Clinton when his
friends are the ones doing the cleansing. He ordered no
bombing when the Croatians drove 300,000 Serbs from
Krajina, burning their homes and killing many. Nor did
he intervene when our NATO ally Turkey slaughtered
over 35,000 Kurds.
Every schoolchild today knows that Hitler's real goal, in
seizing Czechoslovakia, was to use it as a stepping stone
for his planned invasion of Russia.
But what is Clinton's real interest in Kosovo? Nobody
knows.
Many theories have been floated. Some point to the
Trepca mines of northern Kosovo, rich in gold, zinc,
silver and lead. The New York Times called them the
"Kosovo war's glittering prize" (July 8, 1998).
Others see a more far-reaching strategy. The Russians
claim that NATO, like Hitler, wants to use the Balkans
as a stepping stone for extending its power eastward --
eventually meddling in the affairs of Russia itself.
But this is all speculation. Only time will reveal
Clinton's true intentions, as it ultimately did Hitler's.
In his memoir Inside the Third Reich, Albert Speer
recalled the anxious mood of Berliners, in September
1939, as they digested the news that England and
France had declared war.
"The atmosphere was noticeably depressed," he recalls.
"The people were full of fear about the future. None of
the regiments marched off to war decorated with
flowers as they had done at the beginning of the First
World War. The streets remained empty. There was no
crowd on Wilhelmsplatz shouting for Hitler."
A wise man once said that those who fail to study
history are condemned to repeat it. Should Clinton
actually succeed in sparking a world war, Americans
will no doubt react with the same shock and fear as
Berliners did in 1939. But we will have only ourselves
to blame.

EXCERPT:
"The Coming Kosovo War, Greece, Turkey, And Cyprus...
"In our June, 1996, Special Report on the Bilderbergers, the New World
Order Intelligence Update warned that the globalist elite had planned a
Balkans war which would become the "Vietnam of the '90's"; and that, if
they could not get such a war going by inflaming the Serbs through the
use of NATO "snatch squads" to seize suspected war criminals for trial
at the Hague, their plan was to use Kosovo as the flashpoint to ignite a
regional conflict which would ultimately embroil the Yugoslav
federation, Bosnia, Russia, Greece, Turkey, Albania, Macedonia, the
Western European military powers, the United States, and by extension -
as allies of Turkey and Greece - Israel and Syria. Now, from virtually
nowhere, the well-financed Kosovan Liberation Army has sprung into the
limelight and the scene is being set for a Balkan war of unbelievable
carnage and merciless hostility.
"We further warned that, if the war in Kosovo took too long to engineer
or eluded the elite altogether, then their fall-back plan was to create
a vicious conflict between Turkey and Greece over Cyprus, and to push
the war back into the Balkans area from there."

TORONTO, 16th May, 1998
The 1998 meeting of the secretive and immensely-powerful Bilderberg
Group closes tomorrow at the luxurious Turnberry Hotel in Ayrshire,
Scotland. The 120 or so Bilderbergers, who normally converge at their
pre-selected venue with as much secrecy as possible, had hoped that
their selection for the May 14th - 17th conference this year, 15 miles
south of Ayr and a quarter of a mile away from the A77 trunk road to
Glasgow, would - together with armed and black-clad police at the the
property entrance and around the perimeter - guarantee their
previously-inviolate privacy.
They have still not recovered from the acute discomfort which they
experienced when the TORONTO STAR and local Toronto media, acting on
detailed Press Releases from the NEW WORLD ORDER INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
[http://www.inforamp.net/~jwhitley], ran several major articles
revealing their existence and querying, for the first time in their then
43-year history, the nature and purpose of their secretive conclave at a
$66-million luxury resort property at King City, just north of Toronto
Conrad Black, the most closely-watched media magnate in Canadian
history, was the convener of that 1996 meeting, during which -
exhibiting a new and disarming policy of openness - the Bilderbergers
released a list of attendees and a highly-generalized and non-specific
agenda. They tried the same proactive approach at their 1997 meeting in
Georgia; but now, apparently, find the comfort of dark anonymity and of
non-existent Press Releases to be more congenial to their purposes
again.
Well, unfortunately, much of their security effort has been wasted. For
here once again, following the tradition of free publicity for the
Bilderbergers which we first established at their 1996 meeting, are the
substantive issues which they discussed at their secretive 1998
Conference. Since the Bilderbergers make a point of never confirming or
denying the substance of their discussions, we invite our readers to
take note of the following items and to compare them with the contents
of their newspapers over the forthcoming months.
Our sources have shown an extraordinarily high degree of accuracy over
the past several years, as those who have purchased our detailed
Bilderberg Report can attest [see our Report web page at
http://www.inforamp.net/~jwhitley/bild.htm].
We need, for reasons which will quickly become obvious, to refresh our
readers' memories at this point.
During and following the 1996 Bilderberg Conference, we asserted that
Bilderberger Bill Clinton would be re-elected as U.S. president; that he
would promptly break his promise to bring American troops home from
Bosnia, but that he would re-position them in Hungary and the
surrounding countries instead and pass command of the Bosnian operation
to a German general and 3,000 German combat troops from Heidelberg [this
later occurred, in October, 1996]; and that the Bilderbergers had
thereafter arranged to inflame the Serbs by pursuing the war criminals
in their midst for trial before a new International Court [the Serbs, a
proud but experienced people, side-stepped this provocation by
persuading the lower- and middle-level suspects to voluntarily
surrender].
If that failed to incite a Balkan war, then we pointed out that they
were prepared to utilize Kosovo to bring one about:
"When war comes, as expected, Kosovo, at the southern tip of the Serbian
Republic, may be the flashpoint that ignites a wider war involving
Greece, Albania, Bulgaria, Russia, and Turkey - in addition to the
hapless U.S. and NATO troops caught in the middle. Kosovo, "the
Jerusalem of the Balkans", is a self-proclaimed nominally independent
"republic", presided over by "President" Ibrahim Rugova. It is, in fact,
a province of Serbia, though its population is largely of Albanian
descent. The United States, though on record as recommending more "au-
tonomy" for Kosovo, treats the province to all intents and purposes as a
de facto independent state, a fact which infuriates the Serbians. Twice
- - once in 1992 and again in 1993 - Presidents of the United States have
threatened Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic with military
retribution "in the event of a conflict in Kosovo caused by Serbian
action." To add insult to injury, the U.S. now plans to establish an
"official presence" in "the capital of Kosovo." Aggrieved by this, and
rightly sensing the intent of the United States to encircle and contain
them, the Serbians are likely to appeal to an increasingly-nationalistic
Russia, their traditional protectors, for help and military assistance.
As reported by Germany's DIE ZEIT, "Serbia is every place where there
are Serbian trenches or Serbian graves", according to Serbian opposition
leader Val Draskovic. That means that Serbia will fight to retain
Kovoso, in spite of the fact that its population is 90% Albanian. The
Albanian Kosovans, determined to be independent, will fight back. That
will likely draw into the conflict the 3.4 million inhabitants of
Albania proper, together with the Albanians of Montenegro and Macedonia.
Albania also has openly-expressed designs on Macedonia's western
provinces, largely populated by Albanians: at least one armed
insurrection directed by Albania has been foiled by the Macedonian
authorities, and the Albanians continue to openly support and encourage
Macedonian Albanian separatist groups. Bulgaria, which considers
Macedonians to be "western Bulgarians", may then go to war for the
fourth time this century to seize the opportunity to finally settle its
territorial claim there. Greece, already incensed by Macedonia's use of
the Greek "Vergina Sun" symbol on its flag and suspicious of the
Macedonian Republic's supposed intention to form a "Greater Macedonia"
by inciting insurrection and separation in the Greek province of
Macedonia, may well then take advantage of events to settle the issue
once and for all. Turkey, acting in defence of its Muslim brethren in
Bosnia, and infuriated by the actions of its traditional rival Greece
against the Macedonian Republic, could then scarcely be refrained from
joining the fray.
The "Albanian issue", centred in Kosovo and overshadowed by the larger
Serb-Bosnian tensions, is a powderkeg waiting to explode. And when it
does, the whole region will explode with it."
- - from our 1996 BILDERBERGER REPORT [almost three years later, these
things are now happening!]
The Serbs, scenting the trap thus laid for them, have confined
themselves to short, repressive police actions against the Kosovan
Albanian population, none of which have been sufficient in duration,
extent or intensity to provide the pretext necessary for the
Bilderberger elite to rally Western European and American public support
for a full-fledged military engagement of the Serbs. So their methodical
preparation, financing and arming of the newly-revealed Kosovan
Liberation Army has so far provided the Bilderbergers with no dividends
at all...and the clock is running on their schedule. They need this war,
and they need it soon.
(END OF QUOTE)
WELL NOW IT APPEARS THEY GOT WHAT THEY PLANNED FOR.

Via Workers World News Service
Reprinted from the July 30, 1998 issue of Workers World newspaper
Kosovo: 'The war is about the mines'
By Sara Flounders
Wars are at root about economics, and the rapidly expanding war in Kosovo
is no different. So why have millions of dollars in high-tech weapons
suddenly become available to the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army by way =
of
the U.S. and Germany?
A July 11 report by New York Times Balkans bureau chief Chris Hedges
describes the KLA's new arsenal the latest anti-tank rocket-propelled
grenades and anti-aircraft weapons. These weapons are shifting the balan=
ce
of power toward the KLA, which is funded fully by outside sources, mostly
from the U.S. and Germany.
The KLA is "fed by recruits, money and arms from outside Serbia," Hedges
confirms. It has an "inexhaustible supply line," he reports.
"Rebel soldiers, in full uniform with the red and black patch of the Koso=
vo
Liberation Army, pull thick wads of German marks from their pockets. Ther=
e
are also signs that the arrival of dozens of former professional soldiers
as well as some mercenaries are turning the ragtag band into a viable
military force of several thousand fighters." In fact, the KLA is
primarily a mercenary army funded by the kind of shadowy sources that hav=
e
long been associated with U.S. and German intelligence services. It is =
a
contra army.
Kosovo is often portrayed in the media as an isolated mountainous region
that's poor and without resources. It might seem, from these accounts, t=
o
be an area of interest only to those who live there.
The New York Times, for example, has carried dozens of such articles by
Chris Hedges in the last six months. Only once, on July 8, did Hedges
write about the real wealth of Kosovo the Stari Trg mining complex. It w=
as
a tip-off that something more was at stake in this war.
Hedges' visit to the Stari Trg mining complex is an eye opener. He
describes the glittering veins of lead, zinc, cadmium, gold and silver in
Stari Trg. According to Hedges, "The sprawling state-owned Trepca mining
complex, the most valuable piece of real estate in the Balkans, is worth =
at
least $5 billion." According to the mine's director, Novak Bjelic, "The w=
ar
in Kosovo is about the mines, nothing else. This is Serbia's Kuwait the
heart of Kosovo.
... In addition to all this, Kosovo has 17 billion tons of coal reserves=
."
The whole world knows and observed firsthand in the war against Iraq to
what horrendous extent the Pentagon was willing to go in order to guarant=
ee
control of the oil wealth of Kuwait. But the enormous mineral wealth of
Kosovo is never publicly discussed by U.S. United Nations Ambassador
Richard Holbrooke, President Bill Clinton or the Pentagon generals. They
speak only of "self-determination" of the Albanian population of Kosovo.
Of course, they never mention what U.S.-imposed "self-determination" mean=
s.
It means colonization under the guise of "liberation," like what the U.S.
did to Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Philippines a hundred years ago.
An Internet search for reports on the mines of Kosovo the Trepca mining
complex or Stari Trg turned up only the one article by Hedges and a small
piece in the June 22 Wall Street Journal. All other mentions are in
metallurgical journals. How could this vital fact be omitted from all
discussion of what is at stake in Kosovo? It is comparable to describing
Kuwait and the oil-rich Gulf states as barren deserts. The wealth of Koso=
vo
is greater than the rich veins of ore in the mines. Hedges describes the
mining complex: "The Stari Trg mine, with its warehouses, is ringed with
smelting plants, 17 metal treatment sites, freight yards, railroad lines,=
a
power plant and the country's largest battery plant."
The labor power of millions of workers throughout socialist Yugoslavia
built this mining complex into the powerhouse it is today. It was their
wealth that was invested in developing the complex. It belongs not just =
to
those who live in Kosovo, but to the workers of all Yugoslavia. The
Yugoslav web site www.yugo slavia.com describes Trepca as the "richest le=
ad
and zinc mines in Europe." Lignite deposits in the Kosovo mines are,
according to experts, sufficient for the next 13 centuries. The capacity
of the lead and zinc refineries ranks third in the world.
Miners work round the clock, day and night, in six-hour shifts. According
to the mine director, "In the last three years we have mined 2,538,124
tons of lead and zinc crude ore and produced 286,502 tons of lead and zin=
c
and 139,789 tons of pure lead, zinc, cadmium, silver and gold." Although
the average person watching the news in the evening has never heard of
Stari Trg, it has been a prize changing hands for two thousand years.
The wealth of Stari Trg is legendary. Precious metals were mined there
more than 2,000 years ago, first by the Greeks, then by the Romans.
These mines were the grand prize in the Nazi occupation of the Balkans
after Germany grabbed control from the British. The mines have great
industrial and military importance. The Nazis used batteries produced
there to power their U-boats. Today submarine batteries are still made
there. Profits from these mines are helping to keep the Yugoslav Federati=
on
afloat.
U.S. and UN sanctions imposed on Serbia and Montenegro, the two remainin=
g
republics of Yugoslavia, have taken an enormous toll. Without investment
credits, loans for financing industry, imports and exports, the economy h=
as
been stifled. Inflation has weakened the currency. The mines, which once
were the largest employer in the province, have also been affected. The
most important words in Hedges' article are the description of the comple=
x
as "state owned." Throughout this decade, as the capitalist market has
swept over the former socialist countries of Eastern Europe and the Sovie=
t
Union, socialist Yugoslavia has attempted to resist privatization of its
industry and natural resources. To break this resistance, the Western
imperialist countries played a major role in the breakup of socialist
Yugoslavia.
This huge complex of mines, refining, power and transportation in Kosovo
may well be the largest uncontested piece of wealth not yet in the hands =
of
the big capitalists of the U.S. or Europe. The industry, natural resource=
s
and transportation of all the former Soviet republics, the socialist
countries of Eastern Europe, and the secessionist republics of Yugoslavia
are now being rapidly privatized. No one within the region has the wealt=
h
or connections to finance capital to buy controlling shares of these vast
state-owned industries. The major Western corporations are gobbling thes=
e
industries up.
While the fate of some industries is still in negotiation, the lending an=
d
credit conditions of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank
require the breakup of all state-owned industries. This is true for the
oil and natural gas wealth in the Caucasus and the Caspian Sea as well as
the diamond mines of Siberia.
The decision on who will own or have controlling interest in the 22 mines
and the many processing plants of the Trepca complex will be made by
whoever wins the armed struggle raging in Kosovo. NATO domination on the
ground would put U.S. corporations in the best ownership position.
Nationalist strife advances their position.
Although being forced to privatize in order to survive in today's global
market, Yugoslavia has tried to control the process and to propose Balkan
regional development.
According to the June 22 Wall Street Journal, the Yugoslav Federation is =
in
negotiations to sell shares in the Trepca mining complex. Forced by the
economic crisis, they have been negotiating with a Greek
investor Mytilineos Holdings SA for partial ownership. The former manager
of the mines, Byrhan Kavaja who is now allied with the opposition to the
Yugoslav government has written to all corporations dealing in soft metal=
s
to tell them not to make agreements with the Yugoslav government. Kavaja
says that once a new government is in power, all past decisions on
ownership will be invalidated. The opposition will make "new agreements.=
"
Who is likely to be the beneficiary of these agreements?
The progressive movement in the U.S. and throughout Western Europe must =
be
at the forefront in explaining that the billions of dollars spent on the
U.S./NATO occupation of the region is not in the interests of any of the
people of the Balkans. Nor is it in the interests of poor and working
people in the U.S. or Europe. The war is destroying all that was built
through collective ownership and collaboration in the Balkans. This war
will mean higher taxes and even more cuts in social programs in the U.S a=
nd
Europe. But the billions of dollars in profit will go to a few wealthy
stockholders in the U.S. or in Western Europe.

DRUDGE REPORT - MONDAY, MARCH 29, 1999
RUSSIAN MILITARY ACCUSES USA OF TESTING NEW SECRET BOMB IN YUGOSLAVIA
Russian military officials late on Monday night accused the United
States of testing a new secret weapon in Yugoslavia -- a weapon that
is somewhere between conventional and nuclear! "The United States is
using Yugoslavia as a test range for its latest secret means of
destruction," representatives of the Russian Defense ministry told
reporters late Monday night. The Pentagon refused immediate comment.
Russia claims that a bomb tested in Yugoslavia radically differs from
conventional weapons. "It was created in Los Alamos and is aimed to
destroy radio electronic equipment," the TASS newswire reported in
Tuesday flashes. The military said that the bomb generates an
electric impulse similar to electromagnetic fluctuations caused by a
nuclear explosion. They added that the bombs are being carried by two
strategic B-2 bombers of the Stealth technology. Russian military
officials provided no other details. FOOTNOTE: This late night report
from Russia's newswire service continues a strange trend that has
developed in the past week. By night, the ITAR-TASS wire moves
provocative scare stories -- many on Russian plans for military
maneuvers. [On the first night of NATO bombings in Kosovo, TASS
shocked with a report that Moscow was considering moving nuclear
weapons to southern regions of Russia. Late night reports that Russian
ships were maneuvering also created intrigue.] But during daylight
hours in Moscow, TASS, the official state news agency for Russia,
turns more diplomatic, most military talk vanishes. There appears to
be two forces at work inside of the Kremlin, the main source for TASS
military reports. A dark and cold-warlike force appears to be
operating at night when Yelstin and his close advisers are sleeping.
Due to expanding information technology, these provocative late night
stories quickly move outside of Russia and instantly bounce throughout
the world. In the morning, Yelstin and others rush news releases that
completely counter the reports that surface on TASS at night.
