  29. F.  Comments:  This message is for users of the NOAA/SEC Space
  30. Weather Operations sunspot region numbers. As you
  31. may have noticed, we are steadily approaching
  32. region number 10000. The plan for Space Weather
  33. operations is to go through the sequence of Region
  34. numbers as 9998, 9999, 0000, 0001, and so on. SEC's
  35. product text discussions of the active regions
  36. will ignore the leading zeroes (for example, we
  37. will say 'Region number 5' rather than Region
  38. number '0005'). However, the Geoalert product, the
  39. Region Report product, as well as the USAF and IUWDS
  40. data exchange codes will preserve the 4 digit format.
  41. The necessity of using four digits is for operational
  42. purposes only. For historical purposes all regions
  43. beyond Region 9999 will be understood to be in a
  44. series of region numbers 10000 and higher.
