  1. PPP on the Zip Connection does not require Windows '95 and above users
  2. to put any sort of IP address in their configuration.  Just follow
  3. these easy instructions and you can connect with minimul hassle:

  5. PART I: Setting up TCP/IP services:
  6.  
  7. Note: you may need Windows 95 installation media (floppies or CD-ROM)
  8.       to load protocols you don't have installed.
  9.  
  10.  1. Click on Start, select Settings - Control Panel.
  11.  2. Double click on Network.
  12.     If you already have TCP/IP and a Dialup Adapter installed, skip to B.
  13.  3. Select Add - Adapter.
  14.  4. Select Microsoft, under Manufacturers, and Dialup Adapter under
  15.     Network adapters, then click on OK.
  16.  5. Click Protocol in the "Select Network Component Type" page.
  17.     (Click on Add from the Control Panel's Network window again)
  18.  6. Select Microsoft under Manufacturers and TCP/IP under Protocols,
  19.     click OK.
  20.  7. When the system prompts you to restart the system select Yes.

  22. PART II: Setting up the dialup connection:
  23.  
  24.  1. Double click on My Computer.
  25.  2. Double click on "Dial-up Networking".
  26.     If you don't have a "Dial-up Networking" Icon, install the Dialup
  27.     Networking portion of Windows 95 as follows:
  28.  
  29.      A. Click Start->Settings->Control panel
  30.      B. Double click Add/Remove programs
  31.      C. Click Windows Setup tab, click Communications, click Details
  32.      D. Click the Dial-up Networking check box, click OK, click OK
  33.      E. Insert disk or CD ROM if necessary, click OK
  34.      F. Double click My Computer, double click Dial-up Networking
  35.  
  36.  3. Double click on "Make New Connection"
  37.  4. Name it Zipcon, then click next.
  38.  5. Enter 206 for the area code, enter 524-7696 for dialup number
  39.  6. Click next and finish.
  40.  7. You now have a "Zipcon" icon
  41.  8. Click the right mouse button on the "Zipcon" icon, select Properties.
  42.  9. Click on "Server Type"
  43. 10. Make sure type of Dial-up Server type is "PPP....Internet"
  44. 11. In Advanced Options, remove the check boxes from "Log on to network"
  45.     and "NetBEUI" and "IPX/SPX", TCP/IP needs to have a checked box.
  46. 12. Click on TCP/IP Settings.
  47. 13. Select server assigned IP address.
  48. 14. Select server assigned name server address.
  49. 15. Click OK, OK, and OK.

  51. PART III: Connecting to the Zip Connection!!!!

  53. 1. Double click on the connection icon you have just created.
  54. 2. Enter your username and password. Your username is all one word,
  55.    lower case, with no spaces. Your password will not show, so type
  56.    it very carefully. Your password must be entered  exactly,
  57.    the case of the letters is important.
  58. 3. Click on connect. If you have entered the information correctly,
  59.    your modem will dial and you will connect.  If you make a mistake
  60.    Windows will give you an error, try from the beginning again, be
  61.    sure to enter the correct password.
