  4. The following section describes errors users of version 1.0 
  5. of the Intel(R) PRO/DSL 2100 Modem Software may have experienced. 
  6. Symptoms are described, the cause is defined, and the affected
  7. operating systems are listed.
  8.  
  9.  
  10. Symptom: 
  11.    After browsing the web for a short period of time, the modem 
  12.    would stop receiving traffic. The modem would stay trained, 
  13.    but would not allow any browsing. 
  14. Cause: 
  15.    Certain video cards (S3 Virge-based) conflict with the 
  16.    received traffic, thereby causing the modem to quit 
  17.    receiving traffic.
  18. OS affected: All
  19.  
  20. Symptom: 
  21.    Windows 95 users experienced a "Windows Protection Error" upon 
  22.    the first reboot after the modem had been installed.
  23. Cause: 
  24.    Software installed on some computers that controls video and 
  25.    fax applications (MegaPhone* type software), conflicted with 
  26.    the modem drivers.
  27. OS affected: Windows 95

  29. Symptom: 
  30.    PC not recognizing the adapter during installation, or not 
  31.    assigning the adapter any resources (IRQ, memory etc.).
  32. Cause: 
  33.    Modem requires a bus mastering PCI slot. Some older PCs do 
  34.    not have a bus mastering slot, or do not have it enabled in 
  35.    the BIOS. The new software is better able to determine this 
  36.    condition and will report back this reason for the modem not 
  37.    being able to be detected.
  38.  
  39. Symptom: 
  40.    Not able to train in some PCÆs.
  41. Cause: 
  42.    Modem is not being assigned the resources that it needs, or is
  43.    conflicting with other devices in the PC. The updated driver 
  44.    better indicates resources that it needs and asks for from the 
  45.    PC. Resources are more evenly allocated.
  46. OS affected: All
  47.  
  48. Symptom: 
  49.    Reed-Solomon errors were not being incremented correctly in 
  50.    Connection Manager.
  51. Cause: 
  52.    The RS errors were being reset every few seconds. This update
  53.    will not reset the counter until the driver is unloaded and 
  54.    loaded again.
