____Summary of Changes____
The following section describes errors users of version 1.0
of the Intel(R) PRO/DSL 2100 Modem Software may have experienced.
Symptoms are described, the cause is defined, and the affected
operating systems are listed.
Symptom:
After browsing the web for a short period of time, the modem
would stop receiving traffic. The modem would stay trained,
but would not allow any browsing.
Cause:
Certain video cards (S3 Virge-based) conflict with the
received traffic, thereby causing the modem to quit
receiving traffic.
OS affected: All
Symptom:
Windows 95 users experienced a "Windows Protection Error" upon
the first reboot after the modem had been installed.
Cause:
Software installed on some computers that controls video and
fax applications (MegaPhone* type software), conflicted with
the modem drivers.
OS affected: Windows 95
Symptom:
PC not recognizing the adapter during installation, or not
assigning the adapter any resources (IRQ, memory etc.).
Cause:
Modem requires a bus mastering PCI slot. Some older PCs do
not have a bus mastering slot, or do not have it enabled in
the BIOS. The new software is better able to determine this
condition and will report back this reason for the modem not
being able to be detected.
Symptom:
Not able to train in some PCÆs.
Cause:
Modem is not being assigned the resources that it needs, or is
conflicting with other devices in the PC. The updated driver
better indicates resources that it needs and asks for from the
PC. Resources are more evenly allocated.
OS affected: All
Symptom:
Reed-Solomon errors were not being incremented correctly in
Connection Manager.
Cause:
The RS errors were being reset every few seconds. This update
will not reset the counter until the driver is unloaded and
loaded again.
OS affected: All
