  1. I. Installing the software
  2.  
  3. You should have 4 files:
  4.  
  5. MacTCP.sea          - MacTCP control panel.
  6. macppp2.0.1.sea     - MacPPP control panel and preferences.
  7. mailhelp.txt        - Help on setting up email.
  8. zipcon.txt          - This document.
  9.  
  10.   After extracting the MacTCP.sea and Macppp2.0.1.sea archives by
  11. double clicking on them, you will have several files with folders.
  12. Drag the files MacTCP2.0.4, ConfigPPP and PPP into the System folder
  13. on your hard drive.  Now restart your computer for the changes to
  14. take effect.

  17. II. MacTCP Set up
  18.  
  19. You should find MacTCP in the Control Panel Folder, within the system
  20. folder.  Please do the following:
  21.  
  22. 1) Double click the MacTCP icon
  23. 2) Leave the IP Address field blank, click "More..."
  24. 3) in Obtain Address: click Server
  25. 4) in IP Address: use class C
  26. 5) in Domain Name Server Info: put in Domain: zipcon.net
  27.                                         IP Address: 209.221.136.4
  28.    Click on the 'Default' box.
  29.    As a backup DNS server, you can also use:  ns2.zipcon.net
  30.                                         IP Address: 209.221.136.9
  31. 6) That should do it with MacTCP, don't try to enter your IP address.

  34. III. MacPPP Set up
  35.  
  36. 1) Double click the Config PPP icon in the Control Panel folder.
  37. 2) Make sure that "Terminal Window" is not selected unless you wish to
  38.    manually login (using Ploginname)
  39. 3) Click "Config..."
  40. 4) Put "ppp.zipcon.net" in the "PPP Server Name" box.
  41. 5) Set "Port Speed" to 38400 or above.
  42. 6) Set "Flow Control" to CTS & RTS (important: you must have a CTS/RTS
  43.    capable modem cable)
  44. 7) Phone Num: 206-576-7500   (or 206-576-7501)
  45. 8) Modem Init: "AT&F&K3" is probably enough (Rockwell chipset modems)
  46.    For an init string, press 'z' in the Zipcon main menu, then select
  47.    "Troubleshooting connection problems".
  48. 9) click "Connect Script..."
  49. 10) put in:
  50.    "Wait"  ogin:
  51. 11) click on "Authentication..."
  52.  **the login name and password fields are case sensitive.
  53.     Under "Auth id:" put just your login name in the correct case.
  54.        i.e. "john", not "John" or "john@zipcon.net".
  55.    Under password put in your password with the correct case.
  56. 12) Click "OK"

  58. The following steps are optional, your default setting should work,
  59. Please ONLY try these if you have difficulty getting PPP to work:

  61.     a) Click "IPCP Options"
  62.     b) Setup as follows:
  63.                                      Local        Remote
  64.        TCP Header Comp. (VJ)        off off      off  off
  65.        IP Address:                 want will     off  will
  66.        Leave the IP address fields as is.
  67.     c) Click "OK"

  70. 13) Click "Done"

  72. Now you should be able to click "Open" to connect!  Have fun!

  74. Note:
  75. If the "Open" button does not highlight, then the PPP extension is
  76. not in the Extensions folder.  Drag your PPP extension into the
  77. Extensions folder, then open MacTCP and be sure that PPP is
  78. highlighted in the upper part of the Windows.
