<p>But the latest software update from Apple might go a little way toward fixing and answering at least one of these pressing questions.</p>
<p>One most notable changes in 10.0.1 is the ability to use Ping from within your own iTunes library, instead of having to manually search out music tracks you already owned in the tedious ether of the iTunes Store. It's a subtle yet important shift for Apple, a company long known for, ahem, control of content and media.</p>
<p>What this means is the previous setup, wherein a user would have to share songs via the iTunes Store and nowhere else, is gone. I couldn't figure out a way to do this until just now. Maybe if you're an experienced Safari user this is obvious, but I'm still a fairly recent Safari adopter.</p>
<p>If you look in Safari's preferences, it will show that new tabs can be set to Top Sites, Home Page, Empty Page, Same Page, or Bookmarks. There's no "History" option. The good news is that you can work around this by choosing Bookmarks (as shown above), and then click on History (under Collections) at the top-left of the window.</p>
<p>Safari remembers what you had selected in the Bookmarks window, so whenever you open a new tab, it will open to the Bookmarks with the History selected. I remember it being slow, ugly, and crappy. I remember wondering why anyone would ever use something like it. And who cares if 79 other people think a story is worth my time? I kept my eyes on Digg (and its many, many competitors) over the next several years as I graduated from college, worked, then went back to school. It wasnt until I began studying online communities, however, that I really understood anything.</p>

While pretty much everyone initially signed up to try it out, a few days later, the activity stream seemed to trickle to almost nothing. And there was a good reason for that: Apple's social network for music made it very hard to share stuff -- you know, be social. But an update today makes it at least a thousand times better.</p>
<p>iTunes 10.0.1 released this morning brings some big Ping updates with it. Most notably, you can now use Ping with your own iTunes library. Previously, you could only share songs on Ping through the iTunes Store -- a big difference. This basically meant that even if you already owned a song, you had to hunt it down in the iTunes Store to share it. When I was a kid, we just played with regular stuffed animals, and then <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teddy_Ruxpin">Teddy Ruxpin</a> came along and blew us all away. But kids these days, they get all kinds of cool stuff. Like look at this thing: they can stick an iPod touch in <a href="http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/woogie">a "huggable plush accessory"</a> called the Woogie, and run around with it to their heart's content, watching videos, playing with apps, and, I don't know, checking the weather, or whatever else it is that kids want to do on an iPod touch.</p>
<p>I especially like Griffin's selling point on this one -- this case is a bonus for the kids, who get a piece of technology that's a little more fluffy and friendly than Apple's sleek designs. It's a bonus for parents too, as it's much harder to lose or seriously break the iPod when it's wrapped in the big mass of furry green tentacles.</p>

It truly boggles the mind. Back then, if you told this to anyone, they would have thought you were nuttier than Mel Gibson on speed.</p>
<p>It's even more amazing to see how this tiny little thing has dwarfed the Mac. In 2009, Apple sold 10 million Macs‚Äîincluding the desktop and portables‚Äîcompared to a whooping 45 million iPhones. And the 45 million is not counting the other iOS devices. Attendees will be able to visit a study session and take their Apple Certification Exams right there at the conference. It's a great idea, as you'll already be in a "tech-y" mood. Here's how it works.</p>
<p>Immediately following the last session of MacTech Conference, Apple Authorized Training Center v.2 Consulting is offering a study hour and exam session: November 5th, 12:30-4:00PM, on site at the conference. Conference attendees can take any Apple Certification Exam that is currently available at the time of testing. The cost of the study session and the exam is included in the US$899 registration fee (a $200 value). We just got some confirmation on our story earlier this week that <a href="http://www.tuaw.com/2010/09/20/facetime-goes-missing-in-saudi-arabia-much-of-middle-east/">FaceTime had gone missing</a> in parts of the world, mostly around the Middle East. <a href="http://twitter.com/dutweets">@dutweets</a> is the official Twitter account for du, the telecom operator for the iPhone in the United Arab Emirates, and in a tweet just a little while ago, the <a href="http://twitter.com/dutweets/status/25426537463">account confirmed that FaceTime is currently unavailable in that country</a>. The iPhone hasn't even officially launched there yet, but the account also says that FaceTime <a href="http://twitter.com/dutweets/status/25427039894">"won't be working</a> as of the launch" (<a href="http://bit.ly/brBpyE">which takes place tomorrow</a>), so even official customers there won't have access to the video chat feature.</p>
