Amongst all the other announcements from new phones to Ovi Store updates, Angry Birds and new Nokia browser, the company also startled the audience by revealing some interesting shipment statistics for its smartphones, across the globe.<br />

So all those who thought Nokia had lost the smartphone game and needed to overhaul its product lineup, might want to think again. According to the company, Nokia moves around 260,000 smartphones a day, pretty ahead of the two competitors it has always been accused of losing to. If some recent stats are to be believed, Apple ships somewhere around 80,000 iPhones per day, and Android activate 200,000 devices per day.<br />
So now you can imagine Nokia grinning at your face for talking foul about it.<br />

<p>Squatting on app names in Apple's App Store has, until now, been rather simple to pull off. After an initial $99 fee, any person could reserve as many application names as they wanted with no fear of repercussions. Apple has changed that with a new policy, and has now <a href="http://techcrunch.com/2010/09/10/app-store-name-squatters/">apparently begun to enforce it</a>.</p>
<p>The policy reads something like this: if you don't upload a binary within 90 days of staking your claim, you get a letter. If there's no binary a month after the initial letter, Apple reclaims the name and deletes your app from iTunes Connect.</p>

<a href="http://www.yorkregion.com/news/article/872490--hundreds-camp-out-as-apple-store-opens">Here's a local report</a> from Newmarket, Ontario in Canada, where Apple opened up <a href="https://ssl.apple.com/ca/retail/uppercanadamall/map/">a brand new store</a> at the Upper Canada Mall over the weekend. Apparently hundreds of people were in line for the opening on Saturday morning, trying to get the <a href="http://www.tuaw.com/tag/iPhone4/">iPhone 4</a> as well as all of the new iPod devices. Everybody involved sounds pretty happy, from the people who got in line starting at 4:30am, to the manager of the new store and the landlord in the mall itself. Then again, maybe that's their Canadian friendliness coming through.</p>

Given that I had told iTunes to update all of the 60+ apps it told me were out of date, this was hardly helpful.</p>
<p>There are a lot of things wrong with this error message. First of all, it gives me absolutely no idea which app is not available. Second, I had asked iTunes which apps needed to be updated, and it told me that this Mystery App was out of date. How can it be out of date if it isn't available at all? Third, after telling me that this one application wasn't available, iTunes failed to update the other 60+ applications.</p>

But there turns out to be a type of game that is known to boost a variety of skills, from decision making to tracking multiple objects: standard action games. A study, released today by Current Biology attempts to explain how these video games can produce such wide-ranging improvements.</p>
<p>The authors of the study argue that the root of all these tasks involves making a probabilistic inference, where complete information is missing, so people have to make a best guess based on known odds. Video gaming, in their view, increases the efficiency at which people can process the odds and make an accurate decisiongamers simply can do more with less. Shortly after each product's introduction, a small but highly competitive cottage industry of cases, sleeves, stands and so on emerges. Now, the new <a href="http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/">iPod nano</a>'s unique design has many manufacturers thinking the same thing: wristwatch.</p>
<p>The nano is small, light, square-ish and features a touch screen. When popped into a strap accessory like the <a href="http://www.myincipio.com/linq">Linq</a> by <a href="http://www.myincipio.com/">Incipio</a>, it looks good! The Linq will be available in five colors when released (grey, black, pink, blue and white), though a release date and pricing information are unavailable as of this writing.</p>
