Tello has been tracking order numbers submitted by volunteers since March 12 at 8:30 a.m. (Eastern) when Apple began taking pre-orders for the iPad. By his calculations, which are based on a precise count of order numbers and an estimate of how many of them were non-iPad orders, Apple passed the 180,000 unit mark on Wednesday.

According to court documents, Microunity is suing over patents that mostly deal with multi- and parallel processing technologies, as well as methods for dealing with data. The original iPhone hit the one million mark after 74 days on sale in 2007. The Nexus One will have sold about one-eighth as many units on its 74th day on March 19, estimates Flurry.

According to the page, if your iPad requires service due to the battery’s diminished ability to hold an electrical charge, Apple will replace your iPad for a service fee. The service costs $99, plus $6.95 shipping. The total cost is $105.95 per unit.
However, Apple notes: Your iPad is not eligible for Battery Replacement Service if the product has been damaged, for example, as result of an accident, liquid contact, disassembly, unauthorized service or unauthorized modifications, or if the product is not operating correctly as a result of a component failure."

The two will seek a U.S. court hearing in a key patent battle in mid-2012, a court filing shows -- as reported by "Reuters" (http://www.reuters.com/article/idCNLDE62A2JN20100312?rpc=44). Last week federal judge in Delaware signed an order staying litigation in a lawsuit in which Nokia claims that Apple is infringing on seven Nokia patents in products ranging from the iPhone to computers.
The order also covered counterclaims in which Apple alleges that Nokia has infringed on nine Apple patents that are the subject of an ITC complaint by Apple.
Last month it was announced that Apple's patent-infringement complaint seeking to block Nokia Oyj’s phone imports into the U.S. will be investigated by a U.S. trade agency. The U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington will consider the complaint filed last month and decide whether to ban the imports.

<span class="field-content"><div class="body-row" id="body-row-99856"><div style="background:#F5F5F5;">The Khronos Group (http://www.khronos.org), an industry consortium creating open standards to enable the authoring and acceleration of graphics and dynamic media on a variety of platforms and devices, has released the OpenGL 4.0 specification, an upgrade to the 2D and 3D graphics API (application programming interface) that is deployed on all major desktop operating systems.
The OpenGL standard serves as the basis for OpenGL® ES, the graphics standard on virtually every shipping smart phone. The OpenGL 4.0 specification has been defined by the OpenGL ARB (Architecture Review Board) working group at Khronos, and includes the GLSL 4.00 update to the OpenGL Shading language in order to enable developers to access the latest generation of GPU (graphical processing unit) acceleration with enhanced graphics quality, acceleration performance and programming flexibility. <span class="field-content"><div class="body-row" id="body-row-99857"><div style="background:#F5F5F5;">The rock band Pink Floyd have won a High Court battle to stop their record label, EMI, from selling album tracks as singles at places such as the iTunes Store.
The legendary band, signed to EMI since 1967, said their contract meant their albums could not be split up without their permission. The BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8561963.stm) reports that a judge agreed, saying the contract contained a clause to "preserve the artistic integrity of the albums". EMI has been ordered to pay £40,000 (approximately $60,000) in costs, with a further fine to be decided.
The group, whose latest contract was signed before download stores like iTunes appeared, also disputed the way royalties for digital sales were calculated.</div></div></span>

As reported by "Bloomberg" (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=conewsstory&tkr=AAPL%3AUS&sid=arm...), Gartner says smartphone sales will more than triple to 491.9 million units by 2012 from 139.3 million in 2008. The computer market will expand to 443.1 million units from 290.8 million in the same period.
“Smartphones are headed towards that billion-unit category that handsets are in today,” says Jim McGregor, an analyst at research firm In-Stat in Scottsdale, Arizona. “The smartphone is the billion-unit pot of gold that everyone wants.”</div></div></span>

Scores are based on an annual survey from the Consumer Reports National Research Center this past January of over 7,000 desktop- and laptop-owning subscribers to "Consumer Reports." Respondents weighed in on the ability of manufacturer's tech support to solve their problems, the communication and knowledge of phone support staff, how long they were placed on hold, and the quality of the company's online support. "Consumer Reports" grouped together computer labels made by the same company (HP and Compaq were ranked together, for example).

It captures, indexes, and converts content created in proprietary or non-common formats without the need for the original authoring application.
This transformative technology substantially reduces the cost for time spent searching and cataloging unmanaged content residing within these file types on local or network drives, according to the folks at Markzware. Before PageZephyr, documents had to be opened by the original application and manually searched, one by one. Now PageZephyr 2.0, enables anyone to instantly find content in these documents by  simply typing in a search term or phrase.
This new release of PageZephyr includes expanded file support for: versions of QuarkXPress 4.0 to 8.x; Adobe InDesign CS through CS4; and Microsoft Publisher 2002 to 2007.

Apple, AT&T, Research in Motion and other mobile companies are defendants in a new patent suit that covers a broad range of smartphone related technologies, including e-mail syncing and Bluetooth connectivity.
According to "AppleInsider" (http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/03/10/apple_iphone_targeted_in_p...) the suit was filed earlier this month in a U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Texas by a company called SmartPhone Technologies, based in Frisco, Texas. It accuses Apple of violating six patents owned by the company covering a range of topics, including Bluetooth connectivity, e-mail syncing, bandwidth conservation and general smartphone functionality.

Its developers say it sports over 300 new features and supports two new optional add-ons: Commerce and Control.
The SiteGrinder 3 Commerce add-on builds web stores with a fully-integrated shopping cart from within Photoshop. <span class="field-content"><div class="body-row" id="body-row-99668"><div style="background:#F5F5F5;">Sun Microsystems' former CEO, Jonathan Schwartz, says that Apple CEO Steve Jobs threatened to sue Sun for infringing on its intellectual property in 2003 for a user interface design.
According to "CNET" (http://news.cnet.com/8301-30685_3-20000215-264.html?part=rss&subj=news&t...), Jobs delivered his threat to Sun personally, Schwartz said, calling his office to say the graphics in Sun's operating system 3D interface, Project Looking Glass, were "stepping all over Apple's IP," and that if Sun commercialized it, "I'll just sue you."
Sun countered with its own patent portfolio, according to "CNET." With Apple, Schwartz raised the similarities between Apple's Keynote presentation software and Concurrence, software from Schwartz's start-up Lighthouse Design, which Sun acquired, the article says. And he pointed to Sun's operating system patents, relevant given its Unix history and the fact that Apple's Mac OS X uses Unix technology. "Steve was silent," Schwartz said.</div></div></span>

The report shows that iPhone usage grew.
The comScore report ranked the leading mobile original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and smartphone operating system (OS) platforms in the U.S. according to their share of current mobile subscribers age 13 and older, as well as popular activities and content accessed via the subscriber's primary mobile phone. The January report found Motorola to be the top handset manufacturer overall with 22.9% market share, while RIM led among smartphone platforms with 43% market share.
