The standard adds capability to the Portable Media Device Connector (PDMI) for USB 3.0 and VESA’s DisplayPort. Utilizing this new standard will purportedly allow consumers to download HD movies in just over one minute, versus 10 minutes with the previous USB 2.0 technology.

The Federal Trade Commission (FCC) got a two-week extension from Google and AdMob for its review of Google’s US$750 million acquisition, two people briefed on the review process told the "Times." The agency wants to use the additional time, in part, to better understand the competitive effects of Apple’s purchase of Quattro Wireless, an AdMob rival, and Apple’s impending introduction of its new iAds mobile advertising system, the article adds.
Google, which derives 99% of its revenue from online ads, announced in November its intention to purchase AdMob, one of the world's largest mobile ad networks, for $750 million. The deal immediately raised antitrust concerns.

The con artists set up a phishing site using a typosquatted URL -- a URL that's a deliberate misspelling of Apple or some derivation of Apple's online store -- and then lies in wait for those folks who hastily typed in the erroneous address.
Once the page is loaded, the bogus site appears to be a legitimate Apple site, complete with the correct customer support phone number and the same look and feel of Apple's consumer web sites. Safari can allow a window object to be deleted while references to the object may still exist," US-CERT says "If JavaScript code then attempts to use the deleted window object, this can result in the use of an invalid pointer. This pointer can be controlled by an attacker through the use of JavaScript. Exploit code for this vulnerability is publicly available. We have confirmed Apple Safari 4.0.5 on the Windows platform to be vulnerable. Other versions may also be affected."

After you have created your pages with iWeb, instead of publishing your site to MobileMe, you can publish your site to a folder on a local destination (your hard disk, for example), then you can use iWeb Valet to enhance in many ways your iWeb pages, and finally have your website uploaded on a FTP server.

This new, US$120 pack of Master Templates offers 48 new options for introducing and removing video clips with 3D animation.
Because Drop Zones Vol 2 is based on Apple's Master Template architecture, editors can use Drop Zones Vol 2 inside Final Cut Pro, saving the time and expense of a visit to a VFX shop, according to Sam Liberto, creative director at Final Cut Pro Templates. Drop Zones Vol 2 is available in a 1080p resolution at 30fps, 25fps, and 24fps.
It also comes in NTSC DV and PAL DV options. The Templates work in both Final Cut Pro 6 and Final Cut Pro 7, as well as Motion version 3 and higher. Yanobox Nodes is a visual effects generator designed to work inside Apple Final Cut Pro products, Apple Motion and Adobe After Effects CS3/CS4/CS5. Its toolset provides artists with the ability to link together graphics and text for the creation of 3D animations leveraging the speed of a GPU accelerated platform. Users can distribute graphics and text in 3D space into various shapes such as spheres, circles, and spirals and connect them with a succession of dancing lines and curves.
The dynamic user interface enables parameter customization and built-in oscillation, and key-framing abilities add to animation options. Users can further personalize each visual narrative by adding custom images to nodes.

ALS 5.5 is the first universal version of MEI’s flagship software, certified to run natively on both PowerPC and Intel-based Macs. For ad layout staffs exporting finished dummies to Adobe InDesign, ALS 5.5 is compatible with InDesign CS3 and CS4 and will soon be the first ALS release to work with InDesign CS5. For Quark users, ALS 5.5 is also compatible with QuarkXPress 7.x and 8.x.
Another new feature in ALS 5.5 is Check for Updates, which automatically communicates with MEI to see if a new version is available. ALS’s Conflict Rules settings have also been updated. Version 5.5 includes a new palette that combines default and issue rules, purportedly making it easier to review, create, edit, apply and delete them. "An ongoing California class-action lawsuit filed in 2007 claims that Apple and AT&T illegally exerted a monopoly over iPhone service by telling customers the iPhone's required service contract was two years long when the Apple/AT&T exclusivity deal was actually for five years -- thus requiring buyers to re-up with AT&T for three years (and not, say, T-Mobile) if they wanted to keep using the iPhone," the article says. "Obviously Apple had to respond to these allegations, and in addition to arguing that no one was ever promised an unlocked iPhone after two years, the company's lawyers repeatedly confirm the existence of the five-year agreement while noting it was publicly reported in "USA Today'."
