In April, however, that number spiked to 10.25%. In the lawsuit, Zahner said he routinely worked more than 40 hours per week at an Apple location in Florida but didn't receive extra compensation required by state law for non-managerial employees. The lawsuit sought damages on behalf of Zahner and other Apple employees in Florida who were allegedly cheated out of overtime pay. The lawsuit settled last December for US$3,500, of which $2,300 went to Zahner's attorney.

This announcement comes on the heels of Aptela’s launch of Aptela v5.0, the company’s new platform that’s been architected to give small businesses and entrepreneurs the tools required to intuitively manage and take control of their business communications. The service will initially be accessible through select connected Blu-ray Disc players and HDTVs, and on most PCs via the web at http://www.cinemanow.com . Unfortunately, the service doesn't support playback on the Mac. Beginning this month, the service will be available on all new connected Blu-ray disc players and home theater systems from LG Electronics. CinemaNow is also expected to launch on an array of other devices from various manufacturers, including Insignia, later this year.
CinemaNow, the result of the previously announced strategic relationship between Sonic Solutions® and Best Buy, will be powered by the RoxioNow technology platform. Best Buy owns the legal rights to the CinemaNow trademark, and will use it going forward to market the service to consumers.
<span class="field-content"><div class="body-row" id="body-row-179770"><div style="background:#F5F5F5;">Dejal (http://www.dejal.com/blog) has updated Dejal Caboodle -- a Mac OS X application for collecting text, images, and other content -- to version 1.3.6. The upgrade offers performance tweaks for Mac OS X 10.6 ("Snow Leopard").
To improve performance and reduce disk space, imported PDFs, files dragged to the Dock icon, or via the Save PDF to Caboodle print option are now copied to an Attachments folder within the Caboodle data folder, and aliased to the entries.
Caboodle is a tool to help store and organize such varied bits of information. You can arrange the items in an outline-like hierarchy, and include both structured fields and free-form text and pictures in each entry, along with web links, lists, tables, PDFs, and any other kind of file as attachments. When you create a new entry within an existing one, the custom fields are inherited, allowing quickly creating content in an organized fashion. But you can also add or remove custom fields independently for each entry.

A free update for registered users, to version 2.3.1. It's a maintenance update with some bug fixes.
With Acorn, you can take screenshots and edit them immediately. You can chain together image filters to create effects. You can make new images and layers using your built-in iSight. Acorn offers layer-based image editing and image and canvas resizing, just by changing the size of your window. The software works with drawing tables. Plus, you can write plug-ins using the Python scripting language, as well as in Objective-C.
Acorn is Universal Binary so runs natively on both PowerPC and Intel Macs. It requires Mac OS X 10.4.9 or higher. It costs US$39.95, but version 2.3.1 is a free update for registered users of version 2.x.</div></div></span>

The latest versions include new features, fixes and specific support for .dwg 2010 support via DWGDirect 3.2. ARES uses a common design interface and is the first CAD solution to run natively across Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, while also being optimized for specific operating system features and capabilities. iPad support is also under active investigation.
The latest beta of ARES requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or higher. Just remember: beta software is unfinished software, so use with care.</div></div></span>

The upgrade beefs up the Preferences feature and lets you open apps and folders from a reference URL.
Password Repository lets you save all your passwords in documents protecting them on disk using a single password. Data is encrypted using strong and bullet proof algorithms, and the password protecting a document is not saved in any place. Password Repository costs US$30, though version 2.11.10 is a free update for registered users of version 2.0.

<span class="field-content"><div class="body-row" id="body-row-179761"><div style="background:#F5F5F5;">Despite years of negotiations Sir Paul McCartney and iTunes still haven't worked out a deal to make Beatles' tracks available for download -- and the ex-Beatle blames the record label, reports the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/music/newsid_10110000/newsid_10116600/...).
McCartney says the lack of progress is due to "business hassels" with record company EMI. "Not with us, or iTunes," he says. "It's the people in the middle, the record label. There have been all sorts of reasons why they don't want to do it."
McCartney has long insisted that he wants to make his old tracks with John, George and Ringo available to download.
However, EMI tells the BBC it's working hard to sort out the situation. In a statement the record label says: "Discussions are ongoing. We would love to see The Beatles' music available for sale digitally."</div></div></span>
<span class="field-content"><div class="body-row" id="body-row-179760"><div style="background:#F5F5F5;">Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says that, based on info from the NPD research group, Mac sales aren't being cannibalized by iPad sales, though iPods are, to some degree.
As reported by "Fortune" (http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/05/17/u-s-mac-sales-up-39-in-april/), the NPD data shows domestic Mac sales up 39% year-over-year for the June fiscal quarter, which will to beat the Street's prediction of around 19%. Munster says that means sales of 3.1 to 3.2 million Macs for Apple's third fiscal quarter.
The NPD data shows iPod sales are down 17% year-over-year. That's worse than the 9% fall-off that Munster had forecast. Based on the data, Apple should sell 9-10 million iPods in the June quarter.
"April NPD data gives us the first sign of the degree to which the iPad cannibalizes iPod or Mac sales," Munster said in a note to clients. "From the early NPD data, it appears that the iPad has a minimal cannibalization impact on Mac sales, and could be slightly cannibalizing iPod sales....</div></div></span>
<span class="field-content"><div class="body-row" id="body-row-179740"><div style="background:#F5F5F5;">The growing criticism of Flash and Apple CEO Steve Jobs' extreme dislike of the technology) appears to be fueling the adoption of HTML. A study by the video search engine MeFeedia (http://blog.mefeedia.com/html5-video-stats) shows an 160% increase in the proportion of video encoded in HTML5 since January.
The study found that 26% of all web video is now available for playback in HTML5 using the H.264 format. MeeFeedia notes that most sites that support HTML5 will detect iPad users and switch to an HTML5-compatible format. Only YouTube enables this functionality on their embeds on other sites though.
For news, recent stories are available, but most back library content is not yet re-encoded, says MeeFeedia. Their study also shows that there's little HTML5 supported episodic content available from major TV networks. ABC has an iPad app, but there are no full episodes available on their web site.

<span class="field-content"><div class="body-row" id="body-row-179730"><div style="background:#F5F5F5;">British bank Standard Chartered is replacing the BlackBerry, currently its standard corporate communications device, with the iPhone, "a move that could eventually result in thousands of bankers switching to the Apple device for business communication on the go," reports "Reuters" (http://macosg.me/2/9p).
"It's a group-wide initiative involving wholesale and consumer banks globally," a Singapore-based spokeswoman for Standard Chartered, told "Reuters." The spokeswoman declined to be identified due to company policy.
The process of migrating corporate email services from the BlackBerry to the iPhone started about a month ago, the spokeswoman said. However, "Reuters" said the woman didn't know how many of the Asia-focused bank's 75,000 employees used company-issued BlackBerries or when the switchover could be completed.</div></div></span>

The company has deployed 100 counselors and its health division plans to work more closely with local governments and academic institutions to support its 800,000 workers in China, Edmund Ding, a spokesman at the world’s largest contract manufacturer of electronics, also known as Foxconn Technology Group, told "Bloomberg" by phone. However, he didn't comment on why workers may be taking their own lives.
