interesting information on Macintosh Development issues, tools and
announcements. But, we were not expecting the overwhelming success of the
list. With now thousands of people reading MacDev-1, we came within hundreds
(of subscribers) of hard limits on our server.
As a result, We have recently changed the software which hosts the MacDev-1
mailing list. And thanks to the folks at StarNine/QuarterDeck (the makers of
ListSTAR), we're moving forward again with this growing list.
This changeover affects the commands which are used. We believe we have
successfully migrated all users from the prior package. Below are some answers
to questions we anticipate you may have.
Remember, anyone that you know of interested in news for the Mac OS developer
should subscribe to this list. Tell a friend! Put it on your web site!

What's next? You tell us. CGIs written in Java? Why not!
Does AppleScript connect thru this channel? Absolutely.
You can reach both ways, Java apps can now connect to features of the Mac
OS thru Frontier's runtime environment and object database; and Frontier
scripts can connect to software written, and coming soon, written in Java.

This new software is the result of a collaboration between Bare Bones and
UserLand. It creates an easy and intuitive way to edit text stored in
Frontier's object database with BBEdit 4.0, the leading HTML editing tool
on the Mac.
Imagine a pipe starting with BBEdit and connecting to WebStar and via FTP
to Unix and Windows servers. This is one end of the pipe. We're also
working with Chuck Shotton, and should have an announcement and a new
software release next week.
The protocol is open and fully documented on the website and in source code

implement the protocol. It's an easy one to support. It took me half a day
to do the Frontier side of the protocol.
As with all the new connections we're developing in conjunction with other
