Targeting high-performance computing segments such as exploration, scientific research and financial or climate simulation, the first product, codenamed "Knights Corner," will be made on Intel's 22-nanometer manufacturing (nm) process -- using transistor structures as small as 22 billionths of a meter -- and will use Moore's Law to scale to more than 50 Intel processing cores on a single chip. While the vast majority of workloads will still run best on Intel Xeon processors, Intel MIC architecture will help accelerate select highly parallel applications, according to Kirk Skaugen, vice president and general manager of Intel's Data Center Group.

Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar, who has been monitoring the production plans in Asia, says Apple has asked its supply and manufacturing partners to prepare for a production rate of four million iPhones a month by September, a 25% increase. The company has also told its manufacturing partner Asustek to plan on starting full-scale production of a CDMA version of the iPhone to be available at Verizon as early as November, the analyst adds.

The foundation has warned Apple that a version of GNU Go distributed by the App Store makes Apple liable to comply with GPL terms that allow free sharing of code, but warned that its "Usage Rules" violate those terms. An iPhone port of GNU Go is currently being distributed through Apple's App Store. However, this distribution is not in compliance with the GNU GPL, says the Free Software Foundation. On a cold morning three days before the official first day of winter, Melbourne and its two Apple Retail Stores at Chadstone and Doncaster shopping malls provided a warm welcome for the international launch of Apple's iPad for the retail customers who did not already order their iPads through the Apple Online Store.
The line of people waiting at the one-hour-earlier-than-normal opening of the store numbered over 250 buyers at the Chadstone store and over 230 buyers at the Doncaster store. One hour after opening people were still entering the queue that extended into the mall and numbered over 80 in each.

In a note to clients he says his checks with the company’s supply chain finds that the company has been been producing the tablet at a rate of 1-1.5 million units a month, higher than most estimates.

Representative plaintiff Steve Camuti filed a Complaint in San Francisco County Superior Court on Sept. 15, 2009. The lawsuit is on behalf of all persons employed in non-exempt (hourly paid) “Genius” positions in California.
It alleges that Apple denied those employees rest breaks without paying wages for that time in violation of California law. The proposed plaintiff class seeks to recover unpaid wages, penalties, an injunction and other equitable relief and fees and costs for the period of Sept. 15, 2005, through the present.</div></div></span>

You can use it as a launcher that takes up zero screen real estate or a filesystem browser. Also, FinderPop sports a Processes menu (so you can command-click a blank menubar area.)

It took 27 days for KT to increase its iPhone subscribers from 500,000 to 600,000, while it took only 25 days to add another 100,000 subscribers. An average of 4,000 users bought the iPhone per day since its rollout in late November, according to KT, the exclusive vendor of the smartphone in Korea, notes the "Herald."
Meanwhile, the number of iPhone applications made by Korean developers is nearing 6,000, according to Dreamwiz, an iPhone app developer.</div></div></span>

"First up were their concerns about exclusive handset arrangements (EHA)," the article says. She also says Verizon users really want an iPhone.

The article says Apple only spent US$4.6 billion on R&D over the past four years, while revenues soared from $25 billion to $43 billion.
In contrast, Microsoft spent 700% that amount on R&D during the same period: $31 billion. Likewise Cisco and Intel spent about 400% as much as Apple on R&D -- $19 billion and  $23 billion respectively.
"These are astounding differences above Apple's research and development spend, especially considering that during this period Apple developed the iPhone and iPad," says "Silicon Alley Insider."
