AT&T's 3G MicroCell is used to patch dead zones with the carrier's service. Users can plug the device into a broadband Internet connection, and provide local signal for both voice and data. Nationwide rollout of the hardware started in mid-April.
Individual or FamilyTalk subscribers can pay an extra l US$19.99 per month to make unlimited calls through the special femtocell hardware device. The hardware costs $149.99, but comes with a $100 mail-in rebate for customers who select a MicroCell calling plan. A new report by the research group says that mobile application downloads generated by non-operator application stores will grow by a compound annual growth rate of around 41% globally over the next five years, with total downloads almost reaching 21.3 billion by 2015. According to Ovum estimates, Apple generated 67% of all smartphone app downloads in 2009, despite claiming just 14% of the overall smartphone installed base. On the other hand, Symbian commanded a 49% share of the smartphone installed base but only generated an estimated 9% of the total applications downloads market. The report states in 2015 Apple will generate a relatively modest 22% of app downloads, compared to 19% for Symbian.

It's a plug-in for iPhoto and Aperture that lets you send tweets and photos to Twitter from within the Mac photo application.
With TwitExport 2, the iPhoto2Twitter and Aperture2Twitter plug-ins have been merged into one product. The new name was implemented to comply with Twitter's updated trademark policy. On the outside, the new plug-in has been redesigned to become even easier to use, according to the folks at Blue Crowbar Software.
Under the hood, support has been added for Twitter's new OAuth secure authentication system. The biggest advantage of that is that the user's password for Twitter no longer has to be shared with the third party photo sites.

° Approximately 28% of users said that one of their main uses for the iPad would be playing games. Additionally, only 23% said that they thought of the iPad as the most enjoyable device for playing games. However, after owning an iPad, those figures start to change. It turns out that 38% of respondents said that they did not plan to buy a portable gaming device after owning an iPad.
° Forty-nine percent of those surveyed said they wouldn't buy an ebook reader after owning an iPad. Other devices those surveyed said they wouldn't buy after owning the tablet: netbook/laptop (32%), MP3 player (29%), MID (24%) and smartphone (22%).

Both Apple and Strobe will continue to advance SproutCore as a core asset, the article adds.
SproutCore is a Javascript framework that runs entirely in the browser. It’s designed to be run against any server back-end setup. At SproutIt, the company originally behind it, they used Rails as the backend. They facilitated the connection through a custom Rails plug-in that’s included with the SproutCore framework.
In other words, SproutCore is a light Cocoa alternative for deploying web apps that look and feel like Mac OS X desktop apps. It was reportedly used to build some parts of Apple's MobileMe suite of Internet services.

Apple sold three million of the tablet devices in the first 80 days they were on sale.
“An analysis based on extrapolating sales trajectories of [the iPhone, iPod touch and all netbooks] suggests that Apple could sell a staggering 25 million iPads or more in FY 11,” Sacconaghi said. “We believe that current buyside expectations for FY 11 for the iPad are now at 20-25 million+ units, largely based on such an extrapolation."
Meanwhile, Financial Alchemist's Turley Muller thinks Apple will sell 3.38 million iPads in its third fiscal quarter. He's also forecasting, for the quarter, sales of 3.23 million Macs, 7.8 million iPhones and 9.9 million iPods.</div></div></span>

"AT&T and Alcatel-Lucent jointly identified a software defect -- triggered under certain conditions - that impacted uplink performance for Laptop Connect and smartphone customers using 3G HSUPA-capable wireless devices in markets with Alcatel-Lucent equipment," the company said in a statement. "This impacts less than two percent of our wireless customer base. While Alcatel-Lucent develops the appropriate software fix, we are providing normal 3G uplink speeds and consistent performance for affected customers with HSUPA-capable devices."</div></div></span>

“His phone is a lifeline,” said Robert Karp, Gionis’ Newton attorney. “He’s in charge of other cardiac surgeons. That's year-over-year unit growth of 19 to 23% -- better than Wall Street's consensus of 19% year-over-year.
Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says the NPD data shows little cannibalization of Mac sales from the hot iPad. However, iPod sales are down 13% year-over-year, which is a decrease greater than the 9% Munster had forecast. Still, considering that the iPad has an average selling price four times higher than the iPod, the analyst sees it as an overall positive for Apple.</div></div></span>

"Based on our more detailed analysis of supply chain data, we are shifting our iPhone assumptions to latter quarters due to the high likelihood that an inventory drawdown and screen supply constraints could impact near-term shipments over the next two quarters," Wu says. "We believe most Street estimates have not factored this in and thus we believe consensus at 8.5 million iPhones for the June quarter may likely prove too aggressive."

Strong double-digit personal computer semiconductor revenue growth in 2010 (greater than 35% year over year), primarily driven by mobile computer applications followed by strong growth in enterprise spending in 2011 and 2012, will help achieve a healthy CAGR of 12.2% (2009-2014) for the computing industry segment, according to the research group.
Double-digit semiconductor revenue growth in converged mobile devices (smartphones) is helping the Wireless Industry segment to achieve a record $59.3 billion this year. However, with average memory content in handsets stabilizing and continued pressure on pricing, high-single digit growth is expected to return in 2011 and 2012.

Url Extractor X is a Mac OS X app for extracting emails address and generic URLs from files on the HD or directly from the web using a list of "starting" web addresses and working unattended after the startup.
The new version adds an Adjustable Server Timeout preference for loading dat. There are also new functionalities via menu items and new keyboard shortcuts.
URL Extractor can extract thousands of URLs from the web starting from a single web page and using "cross navigation" and extraction. It requires Mac OS X 10.4 or higher and costs US$50. It's Universal Binary so runs natively on both PowerPC and Intel Macs. Version 3.1 is a free update for registered users of version 3.0.</div></div></span>
<span class="field-content"><div class="body-row" id="body-row-192118"><div style="background:#F5F5F5;">SmileOnMyMac has updated PDFPen (http://www.smileonmymac.com/PDFpen/download.html ), its PDF editing and form-filling tool for Mac OS X, to version 4.7. Tex The update adds support for Evernote, the multi-platform memory enhancing service.
PDFpen 4.7 features a "Save to Evernote" option in the File menu, which prompts the user to login and to set the name and note title for the PDF document. For convenience, PDFpen can save the user's Evernote login to the Mac OS X Keychain.
PDFpen costs US$49.95, and PDFpenPro is $99.95. Family pack licenses, which cover up to five computers in one household, are $74.95 for PDFpen and $129.95 for PDFpenPro. Upgrades from earlier versions of either application are $25, and free to users who purchased after June 1, 2008. Upgrades from any version of PDFpen to PDFpenPro 4.0 are $25.

"And even if the alleged signal loss is real, there's an absence of hard evidence that iPhone 4 reception is problematic compared to past iPhones; indeed, there's evidence of just the opposite," Mike Gikas writes in the article. "... From my day of testing, I've determined that the iPhone 4 performs much better than the 3GS in situations where signal is very low, at -113 dBm (1 bar). Previously, dropping this low all but guaranteed that calls would drop, fail to be placed, and data would no longer be transacted at all. I can honestly say that I've never held onto so many calls and data simultaneously on 1 bar at -113 dBm as I have with the iPhone 4, so it's readily apparent that the new baseband hardware is much more sensitive compared to what was in the 3GS."

Experian Hitwise measures the largest sample of Internet users -- 25 million worldwide, including eight million in the UK. The company has developed proprietary software that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) use to analyze web site logs created on their network. This anonymous data is aggregated and provided to Hitwise, where it's analyzed to provide a range of industry standard metrics relating to the viewing of web sites including page requests, visits, average visit length, search terms and behavior.</div></div></span>

The company holds about 30% of its home market, which is one of the fastest growing globally and which is expected to become the world’s largest within a year.
Speaking of Apple’s chief executive, Lenovo’s founder and chairman, told the "Financial Times" (http://macosg.me/2/h7): “We are lucky that Steve Jobs has such a bad temper and doesn’t care about China. If Apple were to spend the same effort on the Chinese consumer as we do, we would be in trouble.”

Hijacked accounts were reportedly used to buy multiple copies of previously obscure Vietnamese-language eBooks, in an apparent bid to game the iTunes ranking system. The eBooks concerned have been pulled from Apple's store and the account of seller Thuat Nguyen of mycompany has been suspended.</div></div></span>
