The source code for MacPaint, the drawing program that shipped with the first Mac in 1984, is going on display at the Computer History Museum (http://www.computerhistory.org/highlights/macpaint/) in Mountain View California on Tuesday. MacPaint is the drawing program application which interacts with the user, interprets mouse and keyboard requests, and decides what is to be drawn where. The high-level logic is written in Apple Pascal, packaged in a single file with 5,822 lines. The survey indicates that 66% of current iPhone owners are delaying their purchase of the iPhone 4, thus lengthening the normal upgrade cycle associated with the release of a new device. However, the antenna issues do not seem to be impacting the 74% of non-iPhone owners who indicated that they are not delaying their purchase plans.
"We are pleased that Apple is working with its customers to offset the reception issues related to the iPhone 4," says William Stofega, program director, Mobile Device Technology and Trends at IDC. "It will be interesting to monitor the effect of Apple's response to the antenna problem over the next several months."</div></div></span>

"You know, we're not perfect," he said. "And phones aren't perfect either. But we want to make all of our users happy. And if you don't know that about Apple, you don't know Apple"
The CEO says Apple has sold well over three million iPhone 4 units since it launched three weeks ago. And he admitted that Apple has heard reports of "some people" having issues with the antenna system, "which is very advanced."
But, going on the defensive, Jobs said though it "doesn't sound like a good idea to grip your phone and lose the signal," but it's not unique to the iPhone 4. It happens with the Blackberry Bold 9700, the HTC Droid Eris, the Samsung Omnia and others, he says.

FireWire 3200 and/or 1600 will use the same connectors as FireWire 800. Hopefully, Apple will go with 3200, as it purportedly delivers at least four times the performance. It increases FireWire speed from 800 Mbps to 3.2 Gbps. You'll notice that, on paper, that's slower than USB 3.0, but FireWire also has advantages in areas such as power management.

The survey also showed that for most IT managers, the lines between their personal and business use of Apple products have blurred.
Over 80% of survey respondents use their Macs, iPhones and iPads for both personal and professional applications and tasks. Seventy-nine percent said they are "more likely to allow more users to deploy Macs as their enterprise desktops" in 2010-2011, up from 68% in ITIC's 2009 survey.

The case was filed in a district court in Texas on Wednesday and alleges that the companies accused have falsely market numerous products with expired patents or patents that don't cover the market products with the intent to deceive the public. The U.S. senator said he wants Apple to explain in writing to consumers the true cause of poor reception with the iPhone 4 with regards to its antenna/reception problems. Schumer isn't happy with Apple's solutions so far, including an in-the-works software fix that will provide a cosmetic change on how signal bars are reported to the suggestion to buy a case to cover the handset's external metal antennas.
He may be right. But it seems the senator is jumping on a controversial tech issue for a little free publicity.

Kumar says he's unclear if Apple will have a recall of the iPhone 4. The Sellers Research Firm (that's me) says no, it won't.

Egan says "Consumer Reports" replicated the same uncontrolled, unscientific experiments that other sites have done. He also wonders if the issue is even entirely Apple's, supposing that AT&T could share some of the blame for the signal variance and call dropping problems.

The article gives no purchase price or acquisition date, but says that most Poly9 employees have moved to Apple's California headquarters.
Poly9 -- whose web site is down -- is best known for developing web-based mapping programs and application programming interfaces for a variety of clients. Among its products is Poly9 Globe, a "cross-browser, cross-platform 3D globe which does not require any download." The interactive software allows users to spin a three-dimensional rendering of the Earth, while providing real-time statistics on the user's virtual location, including altitude.

That's 3.5% of the company's total, on-hand cash. However, even Saccogaghi says such a recall is highly unlikely.
"CNET" (http://news.cnet.com/8301-31021_3-20010443-260.html) says that what would be more likely -- and cheaper -- is that Apple could issue a free rubber bumper case with each smartphone. That would prevent a person's hand from coming into contact with the phone's antenna, which is built into its exterior metal strip. Although Apple charges $29 at retail for the rubber cases, Bernstein estimates that giving them away to iPhone 4 customers would cost the company $1 per unit.</div></div></span>

<span class="field-content"><div class="body-row" id="body-row-194010"><div style="background:#F5F5F5;">Smaato (http://metrics.smaato.com/), a mobile ad optimizer and mobile advertising company, has revealed its latest data looking at the global mobile advertising market in terms of click-through rates and ad network fill rates for June. The company says the report shows Android making large gains in global click through rates (CTR), as it climbed above rival Apple, to third place.
In the US, Symbian still dominates in terms of CTR, but Android has closed the gap with a CTR Index of 192 (118 in May), while Apple iOS drops down to fifth place in its home market with a CTR Index of 73.
In stark contrast to the global and US stages, Android has the lowest performance in terms of CTR Index (52) in Europe, with Windows Mobile achieving the best (205), almost quadruple Android’s Index. Smaato serves over eight million ad requests in its network of more than 6,000 registered mobile publishers and over 40 mobile ad networks. Last month Apple released Safari 5, the latest version of their web browser.
Along with the updated browser, Apple rolled out a new, free Safari Developer Program that allows developers to customize and enhance Safari 5 with extensions based on standard web technologies like HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. The Extension Builder, new in Safari 5, simplifies the development, installation and packaging of extensions.
For enhanced security and stability, Safari Extensions are sandboxed, signed with a digital certificate from Apple and run solely in the browser. For more info, developers should go to http://developer.apple.com/safari/.</div></div></span>
<span class="field-content"><div class="body-row" id="body-row-194008"><div style="background:#F5F5F5;">IDG World Expo has opened up Expo-only registration (http://www.macworldexpo.com/prices) for the 2011 Macworld Conference & Expo. The event will be held Jan. 26-29 in San Francisco.
The expo portion of MWSF will start Jan. 27. If you register before July 26, it's free. Macworld 2010 ended up with more than 20,000 attendees, over 250 exhibitors and more than 150 conference sessions, according to IDG World Expo, owner of Macworld 2010.</div></div></span>
<span class="field-content"><div class="body-row" id="body-row-194002"><div style="background:#F5F5F5;">The iPhone 4 antenna issue could impact Apple's operating income by 1%, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. However, he told clients that investors in Apple shouldn't overreact to the problem
"Ultimately we believe this PR black eye takes away from near-term upside potential to our iPhone estimates, but it does not change the long-term trajectory of the iPhone," Munster wrote -- and as reported by "AppleInsider" (http://www.appleinsider.com). "While the issue has gained significant traction in the press, the reality is we estimate this problem periodically affects 25% of iPhone 4 users given the fix is easy (a case for the iPhone), and 75% of customer choose to use a case anyway."
The analyst said Apple could give away free US$29 bumper cases, do nothing (he believes only 25% of the iPhone 4 users are "periodically" affected) or do a recall. However, Munster feels the latter is highly unlikely.</div></div></span>

Based on Apple’s responses to Psystar’s Opening Brief, it appears that the PC maker is hoping it can convince the court to change how copyright law is interpreted. “It seems that Psystar is pinning all its hopes in the 9th Circuit on getting the court to adopt a radical revision of the Copyright Misuse doctrine that would in effect destroy copyright and force all copyrighted works to be licensed,” an attorney familiar with this type of case told "The Mac Observer" (http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/apple_responds_to_psystar_appeal_...).
“Because Psystar has no proof that Apple has inhibited competition or suppressed creativity, Psystar urges this Court to abandon long-standing precedent and create a new doctrine of per se copyright misuse,” Apple’s Answer Briefing stated. “Under this doctrine, any license agreement — such as Apple’s SLA -- that restricts the use of copyrighted software...</div></div></span>
<span class="field-content"><div class="body-row" id="body-row-193993"><div style="background:#F5F5F5;">Nokia seems to have missed the smartphone boat, according to the latest YouGov’s Smartphone Mobile Internet Experience study revealing that the Finnish brand is now lagging even further behind its competitors than six months ago. YouGov (http://www.yougov.co.uk) is a UK measurer of public opinion and consumer behavior.
Of smartphone owners, only a third will consider getting a Nokia as their next handset, compared to 46% in December 2009, according to YouGov. On top of that, only 10% of smartphone owners expect to purchase a Nokia, a drop of nine percent over the last six months.
In contrast, Apple continues to hold onto the lion’s share of the market, with 56% of smartphone owners considering and 41% expecting to get an Apple handset next time round.</div></div></span>

It allows users to share a to-do list on the internet for remote access from any location.
Delegate has a built in tagging feature, which allows you to tag additional information to your tasks. This information can be anything you find necessary or helpful, such as due dates, priority levels, and contexts. Delegate is compliant to GTD method Getting Things Done.
The Mac version allows users to share a to-do list on the Internet with a free online service powered by app4mac Delegate Server solution. Using this feature requires a user license. As an option, Mac users can use their own Delegate Server. You can access a to-do list shared online from any Mac, iPhone or iPad running the Delegate application. The Mac version requires Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6 Snow Leopard. It's available in English and French.

It also sports a new feature called ShadowConnect. With this new feature, IT administrators can integrate Macs with Microsoft’s Volume Shadow Copy (VSS) Service, so now Mac users can access previously saved versions of their critical data files from a Windows server.  
 
ExtremeZ-IP’s ShadowConnect option affords Mac users access to the Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Services Windows. So, Mac users now have self-serve access to prior versions of their Windows files, says Group Logic CEO Chris Broderick. With ShadowConnect, Mac users can: restore previous versions of files and folders; restore deleted files; and browse shadow copy files with Cover Flow and Quick Look previews.

Barmak Meftah, Fortify's chief products officer, told "Help Net Security" that, while Apple will almost certainly stomp on this iTunes hacking methodology, the modus operandi is similar to that used by trending malware coders, who continually check online search trends and pump out malware via a range of hastily-registered infected web sites. It boils down to raising the profile of an infected piece of code or Web site until a group of online users sees the code or web site and thinks "ooh -- that looks interesting," and then infects their computer with a trojan or malware, he added.

The upgrade adds jQuery compatibility for the alternate slideshow (javascript).
With BannerZest you can turn your pictures into a flash slideshow. BannerZest doesn't require you to know or even possess Flash, according to the folks at Aquafadas. It uses the concept of themes, which work like templates.
BannerZest comes in two versions: a standard edition (US$49) and a pro version ($129). The Pro version has all the features of the standard version, plus some advanced editing options, workflow enhancements and specific pro templates. Version 2.2.2 is a free update for registered users of version 2.x.
