The way the new flash works is very intriguing: a user can select a dimly lit area of the photo and the camera will try to illuminate just that area with the flash. The way Apple is attempting to accomplish this is similar to the way the autofocus works on the iPhone 4 where you can touch the screen in certain areas to focus on that area. Instead you will be able to light up that area with the flash. This is accomplished by the camera flash passing through a 'redirector' so the flash can be placed other than directly centered when a photo is taken."

<p>In the iPhone's built-in Clock app, setting a recurring alarm will cause it to trigger an hour early every time if you're running iOS 4.1, iTunes 10.0.1, and live in a Southern Hemisphere country that's just gone over to Daylight Saving Time (which, for now at least, just means New Zealand). <p>But the latest software update from Apple might go a little way toward fixing and answering at least one of these pressing questions.</p>
<p>One most notable changes in 10.0.1 is the ability to use Ping from within your own iTunes library, instead of having to manually search out music tracks you already owned in the tedious ether of the iTunes Store. It's a subtle yet important shift for Apple, a company long known for, ahem, control of content and media.</p>
<p>What this means is the previous setup, wherein a user would have to share songs via the iTunes Store and nowhere else, is gone. I couldn't figure out a way to do this until just now. Maybe if you're an experienced Safari user this is obvious, but I'm still a fairly recent Safari adopter.</p>
<p>If you look in Safari's preferences, it will show that new tabs can be set to Top Sites, Home Page, Empty Page, Same Page, or Bookmarks. There's no "History" option. The good news is that you can work around this by choosing Bookmarks (as shown above), and then click on History (under Collections) at the top-left of the window.</p>
<p>Safari remembers what you had selected in the Bookmarks window, so whenever you open a new tab, it will open to the Bookmarks with the History selected. And there was a good reason for that: Apple's social network for music made it very hard to share stuff -- you know, be social. But an update today makes it at least a thousand times better.</p>
<p>iTunes 10.0.1 released this morning brings some big Ping updates with it. Most notably, you can now use Ping with your own iTunes library. Previously, you could only share songs on Ping through the iTunes Store -- a big difference. This basically meant that even if you already owned a song, you had to hunt it down in the iTunes Store to share it. When I was a kid, we just played with regular stuffed animals, and then <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teddy_Ruxpin">Teddy Ruxpin</a> came along and blew us all away. But kids these days, they get all kinds of cool stuff. Like look at this thing: they can stick an iPod touch in <a href="http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/woogie">a "huggable plush accessory"</a> called the Woogie, and run around with it to their heart's content, watching videos, playing with apps, and, I don't know, checking the weather, or whatever else it is that kids want to do on an iPod touch.</p>
<p>I especially like Griffin's selling point on this one -- this case is a bonus for the kids, who get a piece of technology that's a little more fluffy and friendly than Apple's sleek designs. It's a bonus for parents too, as it's much harder to lose or seriously break the iPod when it's wrapped in the big mass of furry green tentacles.</p>

Reuters is reporting today that the official release date will be October 2nd, and Target will have all six models.</p>
<p>The launch will make Target the fourth vendor to sell iPads in the US, along with Best Buy, Micro Center, and Apple. <a href="http://www.target.com/">Target</a> is a discount chain here in the US with locations from coast to coast. There are many areas that have a Target but not an Apple Store, so this move will get the device physically in front of more users than Apple could. </p>

<p>More accurately, Apple believes that customers will confuse SL's Video Pod for an Apple product because of the name. The company first <a href="http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/09/video-pod/">gained the attention of Apple legal back in 2009</a>.</p>
<p>Still, SL's Daniel Kokin doesn't see the problem. "My team started working on the Video Pod in 2000, and it took us years to go from prototype to funded," he said. After <a href="http://gizmodo.com/5615058/can-magic-really-fit-in-seven-inches">last August's rumor barrage</a>, a Chinese rumor site with no track record claims that the fabled iPad 7-inches is now a "finished product", which looks more iPhone 4 than iPad:</p>
<p>Yes there will be a 7" tablet, yes it's well underway in terms of product development and in fact it's a finished product. Yes 5 plus different designs have been floating around to help Apple protect itself from people discovering its next product look and feel but... the final design will in fact bear more resemblance to the iPhone 4 stylings than the original iPad design.</p>
