<p>That said, I find myself in something of a dull torpor whenever I visit the new Digg; its vitality has been stripped, and its soul seems to have been crushed. The wonky aspects of Digg that long gave it a unique character are being buried in spam and dull stories.</p>
<p>Digg has always been broken, but in an odd way it used to work. No, it was not the democratic heaven that some people wanted it to be, but it was a strong content destination. That is no longer the case.</p>
<p>Even more, from the publisher perspective, the promise of non-episodic traffic has turned out to be something of a paper dragon. Do we get a few more hits on a day to day basis than we used to? "How can you justify renting your first-run TV shows individually for 99 cents an episode," he asked, "and thereby jeopardize the sale of the same shows as a series to branded networks that pay hundreds of millions of dollars and make those shows available to loyal viewers for free?" 9to5Mac has been digging through the brand new iOS 4.2 beta, and they've found a few new features hidden in the mix. First up, the build offers some <a href="http://www.9to5mac.com/28642/new-youtube-upload-options-in-ios-4-2-beta-2">new YouTube uploading options</a> -- you can now choose to make your uploaded YouTube videos public, unlisted, or private upon upload. Honestly, I've had hit-or-miss luck with uploading to YouTube straight from my iPhone, but it's nice to know the process is being worked on. Rose admitted that he and the rest of the team made mistakes when they launched Digg v4. He also admitted that Digg's traffic took quite a dip after the launch of v4. Looking back. Rose also pointed out that Digg once got an acquisition offer for close to $80 million. While he was personally willing to take this offer, the Digg board decided to turn it down.<br />

<p>Previously, Sonos owners had to make do with the iPhone version of the app, which only ran in portrait mode and had to upscale to fill the iPad screen. That's all fixed now, with the delivery of the <a href="http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/sonos-controller-for-ipad/id392727786?mt=8">Sonos Controller for iPad</a>. I gave it a run through last night, and it is a pleasure to use. The larger iPad screen means most functions are right on the front page, so there's no hunting around for hidden functions. That question has been answered by the guys at <a href="http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Apple-TV-2nd-Generation-Teardown/3625/1" target="_blank">iFixit</a>, who as usual, have been the first to tear apart and document the internal workings of the Apple TV. The answer: 8GB of NAND flash RAM made by Samsung. The iFixit team speculates that the RAM is most likely going to be used to cache incoming video streams, but it might also be used to temporarily hold apps that could run under iOS on the device.</p>

<p>The new Apple TV no longer allows users to purchase and store content on the device, but Apple still managed to cram in 8GB of flash storage, as well as 256MB of integrated RAM. <p>Ryan notes that he often buys iOS apps when he's out and about, whether it be on the recommendation of a friend, riding in a car, etc. The problem is that many of the target apps are over the 20MB 3G limit. I've experienced this myself, as well as the inevitable conclusion: I forget to try again once I'm within range of a Wi-Fi network, and the app's author has lost that sale.</p>
<p>Ryan suggests an "add to queue" option to accompany or follow the notification at right, which would put that download into a holding pattern until the iPhone found a Wi-Fi network. Manually clicking on each photo to select it for deleting would take forever. So I figured out this combination of gestures to do it faster.<br />
After coming back from a holiday to Europe I had several thousand photos on my iPad. I had already synced to the Mac, and now needed to delete them from the iPad. The only method I could see would be to turn off syncing. But that also meant that photos I wanted to keep on the iPad got deleted as well. I could have done that and just resynced the images I wanted back to the iPad, but I wanted to just remove some of the images. Looking in the Photos app I could not find any method for bulk selecting the images I wanted to delete. I tried several things and eventually found some tricks.<br />

Turning bluetooth off means you can't re-enable, but with Bluetooth Explorer, you can force it to do so.<br />

When in this broken Bluetooth state, trying to connect to any Bluetooth device will cause an error. I usually try turning off Bluetooth when it has issues, but in this state it will refuse to turn back on (the menu bar option for 'Turn Bluetooth On' is greyed out). I'm sure a restart would fix, but I've found that if you have the Developer Utilities installed, Bluetooth Explorer.app will do the trick.<br />

Simply start up the app, located in <em>/Developer/Applications/Utilities/Bluetooth/</em>, and it will give you a message about turning on the controller -- ignore this, as it doesn't seem to help.
