  1. This file contains extra information concerning CorelDraw 3.0 which is not
  2. documented elsewhere. The first section helps users who are upgrading 
  3. from a previous version of CorelDraw 3.0; later sections discuss 
  4. troubleshooting tips for problems which may occur during installation.

  10. Please make the following changes to the WIN.INI file before running Setup:
  11.  
  12. - Delete the following redundant CorelDRAW sections:

  23. - Delete the CorelDRAW 3.0A fontlist from the [Fonts] section to avoid
  24. duplication of the fontlist and .FOT files.

  27. that Windows is installed in C:\WINDOWS. The first font is Aardvark, the
  28. last font is ZurichCalligraphic Italic. If you installed from diskette, the
  29. fontlist is NOT in alphabetical order.

  285. COMMON INSTALLATION PROBLEMS:
  286. ============================
  287.  
  288. Novell Lite Users (1.0 and above)
  289. ---------------------------------
  290. If you are installing a network version of CorelDRAW! on a Novell Lite
  291. server from one of the workstations, it is important that the target
  292. directory on the server be created manually BEFORE you begin the
  293. installation. Failure to do this will cause Setup to give an
  294. error message stating that the user does not have rights to the target
  295. directory.
  296.  
  297. "Insufficient Disk Space" Error Messages
  298. ----------------------------------------
  299. If the error message is displayed AFTER the blue welcome screen displays,
  300. and the Title Bar says "Insufficient Disk Space", check for adequate disk
  301. space on the destination drive(s) and the drive where Windows resides.
  302. Use the Custom Install option to check Required and Available disk space
  303. indicators.
  304.  
  305. If the error message is displayed BEFORE the blue welcome screen displays,
  306. and the Title Bar says "Setup Initialization Error", setup cannot create
  307. the COREL.T directory. Check for a minimum of 1MB free disk space on
  308. all fixed drives (including the RAMDRIVE).
  309.  
  310. Lengthy Install
  311. ---------------
  312. Setup was designed to work best with SMARTDRV.EXE, using the default
  313. options. Do not disable the floppy drive read cache.
  314.  
  315. Absence of a disk cache, some third-party caches, and SMARTDRV.SYS will
  316. increase installation time.
  317.  
  318. CD-ROM Install - "Insufficient memory" Error Message
  319. ----------------------------------------------------
  320. If adequate memory IS available, the error message usually indicates a
  321. flow control problem, causing the files to become corrupted when copied
  322. from CD-ROM to hard disk.
  323.  
  324. To test for file corruption, try the following:
  325.  
  326. 1) Use Windows File Manger to copy the file _MSTEST.EXE (a binary
  327. file) from the root directory of the CD-ROM drive, to your hard disk.
  328.  
  329. 2) Shell out to DOS and compare the files using the DOS COMP
  330. command
  331.  
  332. If compare errors are reported, there is a flow control problem. Ensure
  333. that the SCSI bus is properly terminated. Improper temination is one of
  334. the most common problems.
  335.  
  336. Access the CD-ROM drive before launching Windows. Use the DIR command
  337. to read the directory of the drive.
  338.  
  339. Other Configurations That May Interfere With Setup
  340. --------------------------------------------------
  341. NOTE: Always back up the WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI files before modifying.
  342.  
  343. Copy the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files to a bootable floppy. Then
  344. create a "clean boot disk". Streamline your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT by
  345. including only the programs and drivers required to boot you system and
  346. to run Windows, and eliminate all other TSRs and drivers. Then re-boot your
  347. system using the "clean boot disk".
  348.  
  349. TSRs (terminate and stay resident programs) may intefere with Setup.
  350. Check the following sources for TSRs:
  351. - AUTOEXEC.BAT
  352. - CONFIG.SYS
  353. - WIN.INI - (remark out the RUN= and LOAD= statements)
  354. - SYSTEM.INI
  355. - WINSTART.BAT (rename it)
  356. - STARTUP.GRP (rename it)
  357. - TSRs loaded from the DOS PROMPT before launching Windows
  358. After removing all TSRs, cold boot your system and try Setup again.
  359.  
  360. Miscellaneous
  361. -------------
  362. If you are using an alternate shell, try using Program Manager
  363. (PROGRAM.EXE).
  364.  
  365. Install the Windows VGA driver if you are using a custom screen driver.
  366.  
  367. Disable 32-bit disk access (Control Panel, 386 Enhanced Icon).
  368.  
  369. If you are running Enhanced mode, try Standard mode.
  370.  
  371. Eliminate upper memory conflicts by starting Windows with the following
  372. switch: 
  373.     WIN /D:X
  374.  
  375. Ensure that you are using the latest HIMEM.SYS.
  376.  
  377. Disable Shadow RAM (if applicable).
  378.  
  379. Check for numerous lost clusters or cross-linked files.
  380.  
  381. Check the path statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file for more than one
  382. instance of Windows.
  383.  
  384. Check floppy drive capacity (exit Windows and run the MS-Windows
  385. utility MSD.EXE).
  386.  
  387. Ensure that Windows recognizes disk-changes. Use File Manager to check
  388. the disks as follows:
  389.  
  390. 1. Insert Disk 1 in the appropriate drive and check the volume label and
  391. directory of files.
  392.  
  393. 2. Insert Disk 2, then press F5.
  394.  
  395. Did the volume label and directory of files change? If not, exit Windows and
  396. use the DIR command to check the disks.
  397.  
  398.  
  399. EXPORT FILTERS
  400. ==============
  401.  
  402. TIFF Export Filter
  403. ------------------
  404. The TIFF export filter has been enhanced to address compatibility problems
  405. with WordPerfect and Word for Windows, which support TIFF version 4.2 only.
  406. Add the following section to your CORELDRW.INI file:
  407.  
  408.     [CorelTIFFExport]
  409.     ExportToTiff42=x    where x=1 (yes) or 0 (no)
  410.  
  411. The program default is x=0, which will export TIFF version 5.0. Change
  412. the value to x=1 to export as TIFF version 4.2.
  413.  
  414. True Type Export Filter
  415. -----------------------
  416. If an outline is exported to a cell referenced by indirect characters in the 
  417. font, those indirect characters will be removed and substituted with the 
  418. default rectangle.  This is necessitated by the fact that the filter does not 
  419. facilitate the creation or modification of character specific hints. Fonts 
  420. that fall into this category will be from other sources (non Corel), as our 
  421. fonts and filters do not support indirect characters at this time.
  422.  
  423. Adobe Type 1 Export Filter
  424. ------------------------------
  425. When reading in a PFB file, the filter picks up the Family name for use in 
  426. the dialog box and in the resulting files. It does not recognize the Weight 
  427. and Fontname fields. When writing out files, the filter uses the Family name 
  428. and the weight (Normal, Bold, Italic or BoldItalic) to construct the Fontname 
  429. to be used by the PostScript interpreter. Any spaces in the Family name will 
  430. be stripped and any name strings longer than 29 characters will be truncated 
  431. before the Fontname is constructed.
  432.  
  433. When reading an existing PFB file, the filter will look for an AFM file, in 
  434. the same directory, with the same DOS filename (8 characters). If such a 
  435. file is found, any kerning values present will be stored and written to the 
  436. resulting PFM and AFM files at the end of the export sequence. If no AFM 
  437. file is found, the resulting font will not contain kerning.DOWS\SYSTEM\swznrrwi.fot
  438.  
  439. OPENING CORELDRAW 2.XX FILES
  440. ============================
  441.  
  442. When a 2.xx CDR file is opened in CorelDRAW! 3.0, all font references 
  443. within that file are translated to font names using the [CORELDRW20FontMap] 
  444. section of the Coreldrw.ini file. This is a lookup table that tells 
  445. DRAW! 3.0 what font to look for on the system when a particular WFN filename 
  446. is referenced. The [CORELDRW20FontMap] also serves a second purpose, it 
  447. provides DRAW! 3.0 with font specific calibration values so that visual 
  448. accuracy and spacing may be retained.  This is critical when opening old 
  449. files, due the differences in the way version 3.0 handles font spacing.
  450.  
  451. If you have installed a font that is equivalent to a WFN font previously used 
  452. in version 2.xx of CorelDRAW! you will need to update the [CORELDRW20FontMap] 
  453. section of the Coreldrw.ini file. If an entry in this lookup table is missing 
  454. or if a font name indicated is incorrect, you will see a message that reads 
  455. 'Bad or missing font file'. 
  456.  
  457. In order to add an entry to this section properly, the following steps 
  458. should be taken:
  459.  
  460. - Copy WFNSPACE.EXE from the DRAW directory to the directory where the 
  461. 2.xx WFN file is located 
  462. - Change to this directory
  463. - At the DOS prompt type:     wfnspace  filename.wfn
  464. - You will be presented with calibration values for each weight
  465. in the form:  WFNFilename=FontName  nnn,bbb,iii,ttt
  466. - Make a note of the values (nnn,bbb,iii,ttt)
  467. - Make a backup of the DRAW! 3.0 Coreldrw.ini file
  468. - Open the Coreldrw.ini file in an ASCII text editor such as Notepad 
  469. and add a line to the [CORELDRW20FontMap] section as follows:
  470.     
  471.     Filename.WFN=FontName  nnn,bbb,iii,ttt
  472. where:
  473.     - Filename.WFN is the DOS filename of the WFN font exactly as it
  474.     appears in the 2.xx Coreldrw.ini file
  475.     - Fontname is the name of the font exactly as it appears in
  476.     Fonts list within CorelDRAW!
  477.     - nnn is the value given by WFNSpace for the Normal weight
  478.     - bbb is the value given by WFNSpace for the Bold weight
  479.     - iii is the value given by WFNSpace for the Italic weight
  480.     - ttt is the value given by WFNSpace for the BoldItalic weight
  481. - Save the file and close Notepad
  482.  
  483. POSTSCRIPT OUTPUT USING RESIDENT FONTS
  484. ======================================
  485.  
  486. When printing to a PostScript device, you have the option of treating 
  487. some, or all, of the fonts as resident. This means that CorelDRAW! will 
  488. assume that a particular font is resident in the printer (or has been 
  489. downloaded) and will not send its character descriptions. This function is 
  490. handled by a lookup table (the [PSResidentFonts] section) in the Coreldrw.ini 
  491. file. By default, this table includes all the standard Corel fonts that have 
  492. Adobe equivalents. CorelDRAW! does not download fonts in any situation. If 
  493. you have added Type 1 fonts to the ATM Control Panel and you wish to treat 
  494. them as resident, you will need to download them first. In order to make 
  495. CorelDRAW! aware of the fact that a particular font is resident in the 
  496. printer's memory you will need to append the [PSResidentFonts] section 
  497. accordingly.
  498.  
  499. The following steps outline the proper procedure:
  500.  
  501. - Make a backup of the DRAW! 3.0 Coreldrw.ini file
  502. - Using an ASCII text editor, such as Notepad, add a line to the 
  503. [PSResidentFonts] section in your Coreldrw.ini as follows:
  504.  
  505.     FontName-weight=PSFontname  #
  506. where:
  507.     - Fontname is the name of the font exactly as it appears in the
  508.     Fonts list within CorelDRAW! (followed by a hyphen)
  509.     - weight is the weight of the font in question (Normal, Bold,
  510.     Italic or BoldItalic)
  511.     - PSFontname is the actual PostScript Fontname (if you are not 
  512.     sure exactly what it is you may open either the INF or the AFM
  513.     file provided with the Adobe font and look for the string 
  514.     'Fontname' - the name in question will follow)
  515.     - # is a number (0 or 3) indicating the status of the font (0 if 
  516.     you want to just use All Fonts Resident to temporarily treat it 
  517.     as resident, 3 if it will always be resident)
  518. - Save the file and close Notepad
  519.  
  520. COMMON FONT PROBLEMS
  521. ====================
  522.  
  523. Problem: When 2.xx CDR files that use custom WFN fonts are opened in
  524. CorelDRAW! 3.0 a message box comes up saying 'Bad or missing font...' even 
  525. though the font is available to CorelDRAW!.
  526. Solution: Ensure that the fonts used in the 2.xx file(s) have corresponding
  527. entries in the [CORELDRW20FontMap] section of the Coreldrw.ini file.
  528.  
  529. Problem: Small point size text looks very grainy when printed to a high
  530. resolution desktop PostScript printer (e.g. LaserMaster).
  531. Solution: The driver setup in Windows probably doesn't have a resolution 
  532. setting that matches the printer. For this reason CorelDRAW! is seeing a 
  533. lower resolution and the rasterized text is in the form of low resolution 
  534. bitmaps (a 300 dpi bitmap printed on an 800 dpi device is still 300 dpi).  
  535. In the [CDrawConfig] section of the Coreldrw.ini, find the line 
  536. PSBitmapFontLimit=8 and change the 8 to a 0 (zero).
  537.  
  538. Problem: After renaming the Corel fonts with the equivalent industry 
  539. standard names, some fonts print as Courier to PostScript and old CDR 
  540. files cause the message 'Bad or missing font...'.
  541. Solution: If the Corel font names are changed, the [PSResidentFonts] 
  542. and [CORELDRW20FontMap] lookup tables will be incorrect (see above).
  543.  
  544. Problem: True Adobe Type 1 fonts print as courier when All Fonts Resident 
  545. is selected.  They download and print properly from other applications.
  546. Solution: Ensure that the [PSResidentFonts] section has been updated 
  547. properly for the fonts in question (explained above).
