  22. Recommendation Q.85.1 defines the stage 2 of the integrated services 
  23. digital network (ISDN) as provided by telecommunications operators for 
  24. the Closed User Group (CUG) supplementary service. Stage 2 identifies 
  25. the functional capabilities and the information flows needed to 
  26. support the service description. The Stage 2 description also 
  27. identifies user operations not directly associated with a call 
  28. (see Recommendation I.130).

  30. Recommendation Q.85.1 is specified according to the methodology 
  31. specified in Recommendation Q.65.

  33. Recommendation Q.85.1 does not formally describe the relationship 
  34. between this supplementary service and the basic call, but where 
  35. possible, this information is included for guidance.

  37. In addition, Recommendation Q.85.1 does not specify the requirements 
  38. where the service is provided to the user via a private ISDN. 
  39. Recommendation Q.85.1 does not specify the requirements for the 
  40. allocation of defined functional entities within a private ISDN, it 
  41. does however, define which functional entities may be  allocated to 
  42. a private ISDN.

  44. Recommendation Q.85.1 does not specify the additional requirements 
  45. where the service is provided to the user via a telecommunications 
  46. network that is not an ISDN.

  48. The CUG supplementary service enables users to form groups to and from 
  49. which access is restricted. A specific user may be a member of one or 
  50. more closed user groups. Members of a specific Closed User Group can 
  51. communicate among themselves but not, in general, with users outside 
  52. the group.

  54. The CUG supplementary service is applicable to all telecommunication 
  55. services.

  57. Recommendation Q.85.1 is applicable to the stage 3 Recommendations for 
  58. the ISDN CUG supplementary service. The term "stage 3" is also 
  59. defined in Recommendation I.130.
