  19.              THREE-PARTY SERVICE (3PTY)

  21. Recommendation Q.84.2 defines the stage 2 of the Three-Party 
  22. supplementary service. Stage 2 identifies the functional capabilities 
  23. and the information flows needed to support the service as described 
  24. in stage 1. The stage 2 description also identifies user operations 
  25. not directly associated with a call (see Recommendation I.130).

  27. Recommendation Q.84.2 is specified according to the methodology 
  28. specified in Recommendation Q.65.

  30. In addition, Recommendation Q.84.2 does not specify the requirements 
  31. where the service is provided to the user via a private ISDN. This 
  32. Recommendation does not specify the requirements for the allocation 
  33. of defined functional entities within a private ISDN, it does however, 
  34. define which functional entities may be  allocated to a private ISDN.

  36. Recommendation Q.84.2 does not specify the additional requirements 
  37. where the service is provided to the user via a telecommunications 
  38. network that is not an ISDN.

  40. The Three-Party supplementary service enables a user who is involved 
  41. in, at least, two calls (on active call and at least on call on hold) 
  42. to join the two calls together into a 3-way conversation, i.e. a 
  43. simultaneous communication between the served user and two other 
  44. parties.

  46. This supplementary service is not applicable to non-voice services.

  48. Recommendation Q.84.2 is applicable to the stage 3 standards for the 
  49. integrated services digital network.
