  22. Recommendation Q.81.8 defines the stage 2 description of the 
  23. Sub-addressing (SUB) supplementary service for the integrated services 
  24. digital network (ISDN) as provided by public telecommunications 
  25. operators. Stage 2 description identifies the functional capabilities 
  26. and the information flows needed to support the stage 1 service 
  27. description. The stage 2 description also identifies user operations 
  28. not directly associated with a call (see Recommendation I.130).

  30. Recommendation Q.81.8 is specified according to the methodology 
  31. specified in Recommendation Q.65.

  33. Recommendation Q.81.8 does not formally describe the relationship 
  34. between this supplementary service and the basic call but, where 
  35. possible, this information is included for guidance.

  37. In addition, Recommendation Q.81.8 does specify the requirements where 
  38. the service is provided to the user via a private ISDN. This 
  39. Recommendation does not specify the requirements for the allocation of 
  40. defined functional entities within a private ISDN; it does, however, 
  41. define which functional entities may be allocated to a private ISDN.

  43. Recommendation Q.81.8 does not specify the additional requirements 
  44. where the service is provided to the user via a telecommunications 
  45. network that is not an ISDN.

  47. The Sub-addressing (SUB) supplementary service allows the called 
  48. (served) user to expand his addressing capacity beyond the one given 
  49. by the public or private ISDN number.

  51. The SUB supplementary service is applicable to all telecommunication 
  52. services.

  54. Recommendation Q.81.8 is applicable to the stage 3 description 
  55. Recommendation for the ISDN Sub-addressing supplementary service. The 
  56. term "stage 3" is also defined in Recommendation I.130.
