  7. 11.Proposed revisions to Recommendation M.1370

  9. SETTING-UP AND LINING-UP OF INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS 
  10.            OPERATING IN THE RANGE 48 kbit/s TO 64 kbit/s
  11.  
  12.        Insert a new  2.5 as follows:
  13.  
  14. "2.5   Designations of data transmission  systems  can  be  found  in
  15. Recommendation M.140:
  16.  
  17.        -    for use between administrations: in section 11;
  18.  
  19.        -    for use as digital leased circuits: in section 3.2.15.
  20.  
  21.        When a data transmission system is given its designation, and  also  the
  22. related   information   also   has   to    be    established    according    to
  23. Recommendation M.140, section 12. The various items are show in an annex to this Recommendation."

  25.        Replace the text after the first three sentences of section  4.3.2  with
  26. the following (i.e. after "convenient" ...):
  27.  
  28.        "... Where the international section includes a satellite link,  then  it
  29.        may   be   possible   to   perform    long    RF    loop    measurements,
  30.        including  the  satellite,  if   such   measurements   are   allowed   by
  31.        the   satellite   transponder   configuration,   i.e.,   if   the   earth
  32.        station  can   monitor   its   own   transmission.   Such   measurements,
  33.        made  in  loop  from   the   customer   premises,   the   TIC   or   from
  34.        the   earth   station,   should   be   kept   for   reference   purposes.
  35.        Loop   measurements   must   be   additional   to   the    unidirectional
  36.        measurements  and  should   not   be   substituted   for,   or   compared
  37.        directly with, the end-to-end measurements."

  39.        Replace the whole of section 4.3.7 with the following:
  40.  
  41.        "It may be necessary to switch in the FEC to meet  the  international
  42. section and the end-to-end limits specified in Tables 1/M.1370 to  4/M.1370,
  43. but during initial line-up it is desirable  to  obtain  a  measure  of  data
  44. transmission performance with the FEC facility switched both in and out. However, 
  45. due to modem design, it may not always be possible to obtain measurements with 
  46. the FEC disabled. In other cases it may be necessary to artificially degrade 
  47. the link to obtain a measure of the difference in link performance with  FEC
  48. switched in and out. Measurements and measurement methods, should be retained 
  49. as benchmarks  for  subsequent  comparisons  with  results  obtained  during
  50. maintenance."
