  7. 9.Proposed additions and revisions to Recommendation M.1050

  9.     LINING-UP AN INTERNATIONAL POINT-TO-POINT LEASED CIRCUIT
  10.  
  11.        The first sentence of  1 of Recommendation M.1050  should  be
  12. continued:
  13.  
  14.        "... in Recommendations M.1020 and M.1025) which are  provided  by
  15.        analogue  transmission  systems  or  by  a  mixture  of   analogue
  16.        and digital systems."
  17.  
  18.        The following text should be inserted under the heading  "2.1   National
  19. sections":
  20.  
  21.        "When analogue access to  the  circuit  is  available  at  the  terminal
  22. international centre the following tests should be performed regardless of whether the 
  23. national section is provided by analogue circuit sections or a  combination  of
  24. analogue, mixed and digital circuit sections."
  25.  
  26.        The following text should be inserted under the heading 
  27. "2.2  International section":
  28.  
  29.        "When  analogue  access  to  the  circuit  is  available   at   terminal
  30. international centres the following tests should be performed regardless of whether the 
  31. international section is provided by analogue circuit sections or a combination of 
  32. analogue, mixed and digital circuit sections."
  33.  
  34.        Add the following text after the first sentence of   3  lining  up  the
  35. overall circuit:
  36.  
  37.        "It should be noted that satisfactory impulsive noise performance  on  a
  38. circuit is unlikely to be achieved if the circuit is routed via a primary digital 
  39. path on which the bit error ratio exceeds 1.10-6*. It is not intended that this 
  40. digital parameter be measured."
  41.  
  42.        Add the following footnote to  3:
  43.  
  44. "*  This parameter is used provisionally and further study is required  to  assess
  45.     whether other parameters (e.g. those in Recommendation G.821)  would  be  more
  46.     suitable for relating the performance of transient analogue impairments to     the 
  47. performance of the digital paths on which the circuits are routed."
  48.  
  49.        The present  3.8 of  Recommendation  M.1050  should  be  replaced  by  the
  50. following:
  51.  
  52. "3.8   Total distortion (special quality circuits only)
  53.  
  54.        When the circuit includes any digital circuit  sections  a  measurement  of
  55. total distortion should be made using an instrument complying with  Recommendation
  56. O.132. Such a measurement will include contributions from quantizing distortion, random 
  57. noise, harmonic distortion and single tone interference. The minimum  signal/total
  58. distortion ratio is given in Recommendations M.1020 and M.1025. However,  if  this
  59. minimum ratio is satisfied it should not be assumed that all the parameters  which
  60. contribute to the measurement are satisfactory. The total distortion measurement is not 
  61. a substitute for the individual measurements specified in this Recommendation."

  63.        Under the heading "4.1  National sections" insert the same  text  as  given
  64. above for  2.1. Similarly under the heading "4.2  International section" insert the 
  65. same text as given above for  2.2.

  67.        The same text and footnote given for  3 of this Recommendation  should  be
  68.

  79. added to the end of the  first  paragraph  under  "4.1.4.   Other  characteristics
  80. (special quality circuits)".

  82.        The same text and footnote given for  3 of this Recommendation  should  be
  83. added to the end of the  second  paragraph  under  "4.2.4   Other  characteristics
  84. (special quality circuits)".
  85.  
  86.        As a consequence of the above-mentioned changes the following text  has  to
  87. be inserted under the headings of  2.2 and  4.2:
  88.  
  89.        "When analogue access to the circuit is available at the terminal
  90.        international   centres   the   following   tests   should   be   performed
  91.        regardless  of  whether  the   international   section   is   provided   by
  92.        analogue  circuit  sections   or   a   combination   of   analogue,   mixed
  93.        and digital circuit sections."

  95.        The title of  3.11 should be changed to:
  96.  
  97. "3.11  Harmonic and intermodulation distortion (special quality circuits only)"
  98.  
  99.        A new second alinea should be introduced to  3.11 of the  Recommendation
  100. as follows:
  101.  
  102.        "Alternatively,  by  bilateral  agreement  between   administrations,   a
  103. measurement of second and third order intermodulation products using an instrument 
  104. complying with Recommendation O.42 should be performed. The limit is for further 
  105. study."
  106.  
  107.        The following amendments should be made to the second line  of    10  of
  108. Recommendation M.1050:
  109.  
  110.        "If there is a  breakdown  or  planned  interruption  of  a  transmission
  111. system, rerouting should be carried out as far as possible at group, supergroup or 
  112. digital link level. This ... distortion. When such a rerouting of transmission links 
  113. cannot be effected ... should be chosen, in particular with regard to the number 
  114. of FDM carrier sections and the relative number of analogue and digital  circuit
  115. sections. The procedure ...".
  116.
