  20. The main subject of the CCITT Handbook on "Earthing of 
  21. telecommunication installations", comprises the potential rise of a 
  22. telecommunication building and the reduction of the associated voltage 
  23. drop by combined use of intentional and incidental earth electrodes. 
  24. However, the transition from analogue to complex digital 
  25. telecommunication systems has indicated inadequacies with earthing 
  26. techniques of the past and has therefore caused renewed interest in 
  27. bonding and earthing techniques and their impact on electromagnetic 
  28. compatibility (EMC). Consequently, there is a need for a CCITT 
  29. Recommendation on bonding configurations and earthing inside a 
  30. telecommunication building.

  32. Since the publication of the Earthing Handbook in 1976, several 
  33. different bonding and earthing configurations have been introduced, 
  34. and it is desirable to promote standardization by defining generic 
  35. versions of these configurations. Although there are differences among 
  36. the configurations, there are many important common aspects. These are 
  37. discussed in Recommendation K.27. In addition, three example 
  38. configurations are described.
