  22. The procedures defined in Recommendation F.73 enable telex subscribers 
  23. to communicate with both packet mode and character mode data terminal 
  24. equipment (DTE) connected to the PSPDN directly or via other networks. 
  25. In the reverse direction, the provisions of Recommendation F.73 enable 
  26. users of packet mode and character mode DTEs, connected to a PSPDN 
  27. directly or via other networks, to communicate with telex subscribers.

  29. Recommendation F.73 applies to user classes 8-13 and 20-23 as defined 
  30. in Recommendation X.1. Categories of access for DTEs accessing the 
  31. PSPDN are shown in Recommendation X.10.

  33. Recommendation F.73 does not apply to other Telematic services that 
  34. may be supported by packet switched public data networks and 
  35. interworking with the telex service.

  37. For example, interworking between the telex service and the teletex 
  38. service or the interpersonal messaging service is not within the 
  39. scope of Recommendation F.73. Such interworking scenarios are defined 
  40. in other Recommendations.

  42. Call establishment from a telex terminal via a PSPDN to a 
  43. character-mode DTE connected to the public switched telephone network 
  44. (PSTN) requires further study.

  46. Recommendation F.73 defines an interworking model and sets out the 
  47. principles applicable to call set-up procedures and to the text 
  48. transfer phase.
