  20. With the continuing development of the infrastructures of the networks 
  21. which currently support, amongst others, the international telex 
  22. service, it is feasible that some of these networks could support 
  23. other services operating at speeds in excess of 50 bauds and using 
  24. character sets other than those of International Telegraph Alphabet 
  25. No. 2 (ITA2).

  27. There may be benefits to both customer and Administrations if a new 
  28. text service could be introduced that would utilize the same network 
  29. infrastructure as the international telex service.

  31. Recommendation F.150 sets out the service and operational principles 
  32. for the introduction of a new text service, initially operating 
  33. asynchronously at 300 bit/s and using International Alphabet No. 5 
  34. (IA5).

  36. This service will be real-time circuit switched and provide 
  37. asynchronous operation with a basic transmission rate of 300 bit/s. 
  38. The use of other transmission rates at a future date is for further 
  39. study. The service will be half-duplex in its normal mode but will 
  40. allow for full duplex operation in the transparent mode. The Intex 
  41. service will use the destination codes detailed in Recommendation F.69. 
  42. It is recommended that the national numbering scheme for the Intex 
  43. service be similar to and compatible with that used for the 
  44. international telex service.
