  21. Recommendation D.36 is intended to provide the general accounting 
  22. principles applicable to Message Handling Services (as described in 
  23. the F.400- and X.400-Series of Recommendations) between 
  24. interconnected administration management domains (ADMDs). While the 
  25. information detailed in Recommendation D.36 provides guidelines for 
  26. the parties concerned, the specific details of each particular 
  27. accounting arrangement between ADMDs is the subject of bilateral 
  28. agreements between those ADMDs and may vary from this Recommendation.

  30. Recommendation D.36 is intended for use by ADMDs which provide message 
  31. handling services. It should also be of use to organizations creating 
  32. software for the accounting and settlement of such services. It 
  33. strives to strike a balance between simplicity and accuracy in 
  34. accounting. An additional objective is to aid the provision of cost 
  35. effective and reliable services between interconnected ADMDs.

  37. It lays out the overall model of ADMD interconnection, accounting 
  38. principles useful for these interconnections, and formulae for various 
  39. service interactions from the service provider's point-of-view. Annexes 
  40. are provided for abbreviations (Annex A), a glossary (Annex B), and 
  41. proposed account statements (Annex C).
