RAPCON Version 1.0
Release Notes -- November 20, 1989
1. USERS WITH A SINGLE FLOPPY 360K (5.25") FLOPPY DISK SYSTEM:
The Eglin sector voice file (VPS.VOI) could not fit on the Voice
diskette, so it is delivered on the Program diskette. If/when
you desire to use the Eglin sector, you should copy it to the
Voice diskette, first making room there by copying another
sector's voice file from the Voice diskette to the Program
diskette. This restriction does not apply to hard drive, 3.5"
drive, and dual-floppy users.
2. Additional PAR Commands. Professional Air Force controllers
have convinced us to separate the "On course, on glidepath"
command that the Enter key generates. So in addition to that
command from the Enter key, the PgUp key generates an "On
glidepath" command, while the PgDn key generates an "On course"
command.
Also, should you desire to practice PAR approaches, you may select
an active aircraft whose destination is a PAR or ILS-equipped
airport and press F2 instead of double-End. This will cause the
aircraft to magically be positioned about two miles outside the
final approach fix at the FAF altitude, ready for your practice
PAR. You should just use this capability for practice, since it
is considered cheating to use it in a real scenario.
3. A final note: PARs seem to be quite difficult for beginning
users, partly because of the quick-response required to keep
communications flowing and partly because they make you "lose the
picture" on the ASR scope when you're finished with one. Advice:
wait until you've gotten a few hours of experience with the ASR
position before getting serious about the PAR.
4. Manual corrections:
(a) Page 4-9: RAPCON comes delivered with your equipment
preconfigured as "Unreliable" in the TRACON.INI file,
instead of "Perfect" as stated at the top of the page in
the Alt-E paragraph.
(b) Page 7-1: The font file for CGA is named RAPCON.SMS, not
RAPCON.ESI as stated.
(c) Page 7-6: The RAPCON.INI file comes with three additional
parameters that you may set:
Shoreline ON or Off -- toggled with the Alt-G key
Boundary ON or Off -- toggled with the Alt-B key
Airways OFF or On -- three-way toggle with Alt-A
Good luck!
The RAPCON design/programming team.
