  2. (E)nter a Message - Function Help

  5. Subcommands:  NONE
  6.  
  7. Description:  Allows leaving a message to another person for them to read
  8.               at a later date.  After selecting (E), you will be asked to
  9.               enter the name of the person the message is being addressed
  10.               to.  If the system operator has enabled message name
  11.               verification on this system, the name entered will be checked
  12.               against all names in the user's file to insure a proper
  13.               match.  If the user's name is not found, or the user is not
  14.               registered in the same conference or board area where the
  15.               message is being left, you will be advised of such to avoid
  16.               leaving a message to a non-existent individual.  However,
  17.               the non-existent name verification prompt can be over-ridden
  18.               in order to facilitate leaving a message to a group.  By not
  19.               entering a username at the "To:" prompt, the code will assign
  20.               the message as being to "ALL".

  22.               Next, up to a 25 character subject must be entered.  If no
  23.               subject is entered, the code will return you to the main menu
  24.               and command line prompt.  The brackets above the "To:" and
  25.               "Subj:" prompts indicate the maximum length of the entry
  26.               allowed.  Attempting to exceed the maximum entry length will
  27.               result in a BEEP being returned to you and the system will wait
  28.               until you either press (Enter) to enter the subject as-is, or
  29.               to allow you to backspace over your current entry and modify it.

  31.               If the message base where your text is being entered has not been
  32.               flagged as being private - where all messages are protected
  33.               from being read by other callers until reviewed by the sysop -
  34.               you will be asked to enter a security level for the message.
  35.               A security level prompt will appear as follows:

  37.               Security:  (G)roup, (R)eceiver, (S)ender, (H)elp, (N)one
  38.  
  39.                  (G)roup allows assigning a password to the message which
  40.                     only other callers who know the common password will be
  41.                     allowed to read the message.
  42.                  (R)eceiver makes the message private to all except you - the
  43.                     person leaving it - and the person to who it is addressed.
  44.                  (S)ender allows you to assign a password to the message so
  45.                     that only you can kill it later.  This prevents the other
  46.                     person to who the message is addressed from killing it.
  47.                  (N)one means that the message will be open for all to read.

  49.               Note that you can NOT assign (R)eceiver protection to a message
  50.               which has been addressed to ALL.

  52.               After completing the above steps, you can enter your text.  Each
  53.               line you enter will be preceeded by it's line number.  Up to 72
  54.               characters per line is allowed.  Typing beyond the 72 character
  55.               limit will cause your text to automatically "word-wrap" down to
  56.               the next line.  To complete entering text, press (Enter) alone
  57.               on a blank line, at which time the following command will be
  58.               displayed:

  63. (A)bort, (C)ontinue, (D)elete, (E)dit, (H)elp, (I)nsert, (L)ist, (S)ave, (SC)

  65.               (A)bort abandons or cancels your message entry.
  66.               (C)ontinue allows you to continue entering text.
  67.               (D)elete allows you to delete a line of text from the message.
  68.               (E)dit allows you to edit a line of text.
  69.               (H)elp displays this Help file.
  70.               (I)nsert allows inserting a line of text in front of another.
  71.               (L)ist relists your text entry so far to the screen.
  72.               (S)ave actually writes the message to disk.
  73.               (SC) allows saving the same message to another individual.
  74.               (SK) save your message, kill replied to message (if applicable)
  75.               (SN) save your message, skip redisplay of replied to message

  77.               Note: The format to (E)dit a line of text is:

  79.                   old text;new text
  80.  
  81.               where the "old text" is the text you wish to replace, followed
  82.               by a ";" followed by the new text.  The old text search is case
  83.               sensitive - so capital letters must match exactly.  If your new
  84.               text causes that line to exceed 72 characters, the characters
  85.               beyond 72 will be truncated from the line.

  87.     When "uploading" Ascii text to the message base, insure your text lines
  88.     are 72 characters or less in length.
