OPERATION WOLF
ADDITIONAL NOTES :-
1.0 CGA PALETTE SWITCHING
When using CGA mode 4 different color palettes may be selected.
During game play, press the F4 key until the desired color palette is
shown.
2.0 MEMORY REQUIREMENTS
The memory required to run Operation Wolf depends how much is actually FREE
for the program to use, rather upon how much is installed in the computer. The
amount of FREE ram is affected by the following :-
A) GRAPHICS MODE SELECTED
From Higher to Lower memory requirements :- Tandy 16 color, MCGA,
Hercules Mono, CGA, VGA/EGA.
If, for instance, you have a TANDY 1000 with 512k of memory, and get a
message indicating that there is not enough memory to run the game, you
may be able to run Operation Wolf in CGA mode.
B) DOS VERSION
Generally, the higher the DOS Version Number, the more memory DOS uses;
therefore there is less memory left for Operation Wolf to use. Later
version of DOS (3.3 etc) have additional programs that use memory. An
example is FASTOPEN which is really just a TSR. Additional memory is
taken from the system in proportion to the number of Files allocated to
this program.
C) NUMBER AND SIZE OF TSR PROGRAMS RESIDENT IN MEMORY.
Any programs you make resident will reduce the amount of memory
available for Operation Wolf. If you do not have enough memory
to run the game but appear have enough installed in the machine, then
remove some or all of the TSR programs.
D) NUMBER OF DISK BUFFERS; RAM DISK OR CACHE IN LOW MEMORY.
Each buffer set in your CONFIG.SYS takes about 512 bytes of memory.
Setting BUFFERS=99 will take 45k away from Operation Wolf.
Try reducing buffers to say 10 or 20 if you are having problems loading
Operation Wolf.
E) MOUSE DRIVERS
If you want to use a mouse, the driver must be in memory. These can
take up to 15k of available memory.
**********************************************
The FREE ram can be found by running CHKDSK (found on your DOS diskette).
The ram available for use is normally displayed on the last line of
the report as (for example) :-
567890 bytes free.
For the Various display adapters, FREE ram should be at least :-
VGA/EGA (512k machine typical) - 405k
HERCULES MONO (512k typical) - 445k
TANDY 1000 16 color mode (640k Machine required)- 530k
CGA (512k machine typical) - 445k
MCGA (640k machine required) - 530k
