  29.   PREFACE:  In this issue will discuss the different types of operators, area
  30. codes and special numbers.  This edition is made to give you a basic
  31. understanding of the wicked ways of MA.  I hope it'll give you a good enough
  32. back ground to do well.

  41. Here we'll go over in detail some of the most common operators.

  44.  TSPS OPERATOR:
  45.  
  46.   Trafic (us) Service Position System Operator is the bitch you commonly here
  47. whenever you use a pay fone etc..  To say the leats she's a meat head.  Her
  48. respnsibilities are as follows:
  49.  
  50.   [1] Getting all billing information for Calling Cards and 3rd number calls.
  51.   [2] Making sure you get the right person on person-to-person calls.
  52.   [3] Making sure the fool on the other end will pay for your collect call (why
  53.       call collect?)
  54.   [4] Identifying calling numbers, or basically asking you, 'what number are
  55.       you calling, pleaz.' when the system fucks up.

  57.   Even though these operators are commonly ding-bats you shouldn't screw with
  58. them, for they are known to be quick with the traser.  She can even tell if
  59. your calling from a fortress fone, she has like a portable all time ready
  60. tracer.  Beware of these deadly wenches.

  64.   INWARD OPERATORS:

  66.   This winch is basically an apprentice to the bitch above (TSPS) or commonly
  67. the '0' operator.  She will never question you as long as your within her
  68. dimension (service) area.  She can only be reached by a mighty Blue Box
  69. (discussed in up and cumming tutorial.)

  72.   DIRECTORY ASSISTANCE OPERATORS:

  74.      (DOA?DAO?)

  76.   This is the operator ou get when you call directory assistance (555-1212).
  77. All she can do is either tell you a listed number or tell you if a number is
  78. unlisted.  Waste of time.

  82.   DEAF D.A.O.'S
  83.  
  84.   This is neat little operator set up to help directory assistance for deaf
  85. people (who would they want to talk to?).  She's reachable by dialing
  86. 800-855-1155.  She talks to the deaf via Teletypewritters (terminals).    If your
  87. modem can transfer baudot, say hello.

  91.   CN/A OPERATORS
  92.  
  93.   Oh the sweet CN/A, god bless its soul.  These operators instead of giveing
  94. you information on a persons phone number they give you information on a fone
  95. numbers person (the person at 503-229-7600).  However, if manipulated these
  96. beauties can give you the number of someone who's unlisted.

  99.   INTERCEPT OPERATOR:
  100.  
  101.   All places have their share of low lifes, well this is the scum, bottom of
  102. the barrol of operators.  She's the one you get when all the recordings are
  103. busy (lower than a recording).    Infact these dames can cause you more pains
  104. then a recording.

  107.    OTHER OPERATORS:

  109.   Well we have- marine verify, we have mobile,rout and rate,ship to
  110. shore,conference and a few other specific ones.  No ral help to us now.

  113.   *NOTES:  Most operators have their own little Directory Assistance.  If any
  114. operator is giving you probs ask to speek with his/her/its supervisor.    This
  115. will phreak them out.

  125.   HOW FONE NUMBERS WORK:

  127. Basiclly MA made our fone numbers quite simple. Here's how they work:
  128.  
  129.   [A] The area code is what the call a three digit number plan area or NPA.
  130. This means that an area code is just that, the code for an area.
  131.  
  132.  
  133.   [B] The rest of our number (ie.  666-7209) is divided into two segments.  The
  134. first being the Central Office number (666 would be N.    Portland) and the
  135. ending (7209) is the station number, or basically your assign
  136.  
  137.   This complete combination (503-666-7209) is known as the destination code.
  138. Here's how MA has developed the combo's:

  145.  X = a number from 2-9
  146.  y = a number from 0-9
  147.  * = either 0 or 1

  149.   Normally an area code may never cross a states boundrie, thus an area code
  150. (NPA) may not be used for both New York and for Pennsylvania.  However, as for
  151. all other rules there is an exception.    Here they are.

  174.   Telex II, as you can see above there are 5 TWX machines.  There all owned by
  175. Western Union.    Normally these babes may only be accessed by other TWX
  176. machines, however, if you do not wish to go and purchase on you can access 'em
  177. by use of the Easylink, by Western Union.

  181.    700:

  183.   This is a new service for employees of AT&T in which someone (one of the
  184. special employees) can call his own 700 number (say 700-292-9876), enters
  185. his/her code, and where he is staying and then hangs up.  If there is any new
  186. info on the case he is working elsewhere, this system tells him.

  190.    800:
  191.  
  192.   There a basically two types of Watts Lines, Inward Watts and Outward watts.
  193. These are probably some of the nicest of the special area codes since they
  194. allow you to call for free.  Here's an explanation of the two:

  198.  INWARD WATTS:
  199.  
  200.   Inward Wide Area Telecomunications Service is probably the one your most
  201. familiar with.    MA has developed it so there are 6 different levels of Inwatts.
  202. Level 6 being the whole U.S.  (all 50 states) level 5 being all 48 contienental
  203. states etc.  all the way
  204.  
  205.   Intrestate Inwatts are less common but still exist.  These are the ones you
  206. can only call from say one state.  You can tell one quite easily for they all
  207. have a 2 for the last central office number, or the 6th number (ie.
  208. 800-XY2-XXXX).    All companies that have a 800# must have at leats two lines.
  209. This is because if you call the first number (ie.  800-666-0190) and it rings
  210. busy the 800# number will always go to another port to see if its busy.

  212.   OUTWARD WATTS:

  216.   Outwatts are just that, there for making outward calls only.    Large companies
  217. commonly use Outwatts since they recieve bulk discounts.  Outwatt 800's are in
  218. the form of:

  220.         800-*XX-XXXX

  223.   * may only be a 0 or 1 and can only be reached by way of box.  The whole set,
  224. *XX is the areas that are accessable by that comany.

  228.    900:

  230.   This is a nation number used for taking polls and the like (how do you think
  231. they know what shows on the tube are c00l).  The number for this service is,
  232. 900-555-1212.  This will tell whats up o the system.  Beware, this MA trick
  233. will cost you 50 cents a min

  243.   These are the way the switching office knows where to route the call.  The
  244. following codes are reserved nationwide:

  247.   950 - future services
  248.   958 - plant test
  249.   959 - plant test
  250.   976 - dial-it services (weather etc.)

  286. dump these services, but alot are still in use, it'll vary with your area.
