The Dark Heart of Uukrul
Spell Editor
Written and designed by The Byter
- An Alternative Release -
This spell editor is meant to be used along with the INC fix for
Dark Heart which disengages all checking for modified files. I do
not know if it will work on a version without the fix or not.
First of all, make a backup of your spells.tbl file. This editor
works without any problems I have found, but I don't want you blaming
me if you fuck things up and don't have a backup.
Copy the SPELLS.EXE file into your Uukrul directory and execute it.
You will be given a display containing two information boxes, three
credit boxes, and an input box.
The information box on the left shows the current spell. The one on
the right is the help box, which gives a bit of information about what
you are editing.
Use the left/right arrow keys (or N/P) to scroll through the spells and
see what is available. If you want to edit one, hit return (or E) when
that spell is selected, and you will be prompted for new values for
each variable. If you press enter, the old value will be kept.
This program will work for either mage spells or priest invocations,
but I have only done research and testing on the mage spells, so the
invocation results may not be the same. The big word here is
"Experiment".
After you have finished editing the spells you desire, be sure to hit
the S key to save before you exit. If you don't, all your editing will
be in vain.
The first purpose of this editor was to change the spell names to names
which could be remembered easier than Qskxjnxa or Muasdma or whatever
they use. I would much prefer to cast "Firebolt" or "Zap" than Awefdv.
I decoded the rest of the data and decided to make a full editor out of
it, so here you go.
The Byter
This editor has been a production of The Alternative.
The Alternative is a special pirate group. We do not release
games like the other groups do, but provide pirates with much-
needed utilities and application software, such as Windows 3.0,
WordStar 6.0, IBM Current, Avery LabelPro, and BootCon.
The Alternative is meant to be a compliment to the other groups.
We often release docs and solves when the other groups do
not (comprehensive docs releases include MechWarrior, Sword of
the Samurai, Joan of Arc, Street Rods, Ultima VI, Railroad
Tycoon, and Prince of Persia). We have also released fixes for
games which were cracked incorrectly, presented cheats, and other
helpful utilities.
Most importantly, The Alternative is the creative force behind
Celerity - the most original and advanced pirate BBS being used
today. Celerity features multiple high-speed optimizations,
strong sysop features, new user voting, full featured network,
and many options not found on any other pirate BBS program.
The Alternative is also a fluid group with no static membership.
If you have a new application or utility program which should be
shared with the pirate community, contact The Alternative, and
make it an Alternative release.
The Alternative can be reached at 714-627-0601. The Lexicon.
You may also contact The Alternative by leaving mail to The Byter
on any high quality pirate system in the United States.
