Rings of Medusa
Cracked by R. Bubba Magillicutty
I went to try out today's release, and was startled to see a doc
check at the beginning. Knowing Fabulous Furlough's insistance on clean
cracks, I knew something was amiss. Sure enough, the game wasn't cracked.
I guess he forgot to stick the updated ROM.EXE in the release, or the
uncracked version from Candyland was distributed. So, I fired up my debugger
and cracked the thing. I don't know why Fabulous Furlough said it was
difficult. Five minutes for me... It takes in your response right away and
checks it then and later. But, warned of this, I just had to find out where
the check was. Simplicity itself. So easy that I hope I didn't miss
anything...
When you failed the protection, the game would let you in (so people
won't recognize this right away as an uncracked version, just a messy crack)
but when you try to enter one of your cities it wouldn't let you in. It
still won't allow you to enter Medusa's cities, which are the lighter ones.
But now you can enter cities to buy the items you need.
I figured something stupid like this would happen eventually. I
always delete the game when I'm done with it, and unzip it from the
distribution files to give it a final test. It has saved me on Jack Nicklaus
Golf and other games as well. I'll beat on Fabs and make sure he does so in
the future.
Sorry for any inconvenience. I hope you manage to enjoy the game now that
you can play it. The graphics are ugly, but it's not a bad strategy game, as
strategy games go.

Special greets to all the [PE] folks. Well, the older ones. You guys are
the only real competition out there right now.
