Dec. 24th, 1989
No official documentation has been written for Monarch since I haven't
found anyone qualified to write them. In this file I will overview
some of the external files that have been added. This, among the rest
of the documentation will follow in following versions.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Note: '*' file is optional and does not need to exist.
'+' file can have a .ANS .ASC or plain . ending.
* CHAT. File that will be displayed to the user when the sysop
is available for chat. This file can contain any such
information that you fell necessary.
+* NOCHAT. File that goes along with CHAT. but is displayed when
the SysOp is not available. People usually put hours
that they are available so the user can try again
later.
+* WANTED. A most wanted list of files that is shown to the user
right after entering the transfer section. Usually
contains a list of files that the SysOp wants but it
may contain anything you'd like.
* AREALIST.MSG List of message bases in place of Brand-X's normal
looking list. Note: This should only be used if all
areas have the same system level.
* AREALIST.FIL Same as AREALIST.MSG except this one is in place of the
file section.
* USERMSG.x Special message that is shown to user# 'x' from the
SysOp. This message will be among the first things
displayed to the user as he/she logs on. This file
will be deleted after the user reads it.
* LEVELMSG.x Special message to all level 'x' users. This file will
be displayed every time the user logs on. That is, as
long as the users level matches the 'x' on the LEVELMSG
file.
+* MATRIX. This file is only needed if you have a system password
set up in the config. Even so, if this file is
non-existant, Brand-X will create one itself. In this
file you place a list of Matrix's and what each one is.
Example:
1. Didactic Gallery
2. Brad's BBS
3. Dave's BBS
4. Logon as a new user
5. Check for access to The Devineallery
6. Hangup
7. Send Feedback to The Zany Renegade
The first three are BBS's that you may run out of
Monarch. You can turn the feedback option off in the config
section of the BBS.
* AREAHEAD.x Small description to be given to area# 'x'. This file
will be displayed each time the user requests a list of
files in the current area.
+* PRELOGON. File that will be shown BEFORE the matrix. This can
contain such information as to the operation of the
Matrix.
DONATION. File that is to be accessed by '$' from the mainmenu.
This file usually contains information about donating
money to support the BBS.
+ GOODBYE. Message that is the last thing the user sees when
logging off the system normally.
INFOFORM. Standard questionairre that the user is given when
logging on new. This feature is set either on or off
in the config. Example of file format:
Name: *
Phone number: *
Alias: *
Whereever Monarch sees the '*' it will replace it with
a prompt for a question.
NEWUSER. Information file that is displayed to the user as he is
logging on new. This file usually contains a list of
system rules.
NICETRY. Message that is given to the user if he/she fails all 4
attempts at a password or matrix. Example of file:
I hate hackers, don't call back loser!
With that, Monarch would just hang up on the user.
* OTHERBBS. List of other BBS systems. This sile is
self-explanitory.
* PRIVATE. Message sent to the user when he is trying to log on
new and the system is private.
TIMESUP. File shown to the user when his/her time for the day is
up.
TRASHCAN. Message sent to the losers that you do not want on your
system. This sile will only show up to people with -1
access.
* VALIDATE. Stuff the newuser sees when getting hung up. Put
whatever you want here.
All of the above files must be in
the menus directory to operate

SPECIAL NOTES:
- The protocol Lynx was working fine but it was removed due to
a bad copy. I'll re-install it in the next version assuming
that I get a good copy.
- The file BRAND-X.TXT contains a list of changes from version to
version.
- There is a conversion program for this version since
Silent Lord got off his ass and decided to write one.
