Netherworld EGA Fix
by
R. Bubba Magillicutty
No, there isn't a doc check way into the game. It's not a bad crack;
it's not even protected. But it does use stupid non-standard keys. The
purpose of this fix is to change the direction keys used by the game. No
longer do you have to use Q and A, O and P. I've changed it to use the arrow
keys. A side-effect of this is that the sound on/off keys are now the arrow
keys as well. I've included an updated SELECT.COM file, which shows what the
new commands are. The left-arrow symbol (which also happens to be ESC)
wouldn't show up right, so I had to use the larger triangle-shaped arrow.
This has no effect on anything whatsoever, it just had to be done. So sue
me (software developers should not take this literally!)
Note: This fix is for the EGA version only. I don't plan on making one
for the CGA or Tandy version unless someone has a vital need. It wouldn't
take long, but it's not worth the effort. If you don't have EGA or better
you won't like this game anyway. It's hard enough to play with EGA.
This fix should help to make the game a lot more playable. I still can't
make it use the joystick, but I don't have the energy to trace through and
find out what's wrong there. I hope you manage to enjoy this game. I played
it twice and am now ready to put it away for good.
