  5. HOUSE ADONIS BBS IS CLOSED !

  9. This is Blue Adonis. Yes, it's official! My board is closed
  10. permanently. We did NOT get busted or anything similar, so don't
  11. spread rumours. After all, HOUSE ADONIS was a shareware board,
  12. specialized in music and art.
  13.  
  14. Anyway, the past few weeks a lot happened in the scene. First
  15. there was the bust of GENESIS and just a week ago, POINTBREAK got
  16. busted too. Both because they had a little 300 byte file online
  17. which cracks Novell Netware and converts it into a 1000 user
  18. application.

  20. So, I wonder, what are we doing here? Is it worth all that shit?
  21. I mean, what good is it to run a shareware board, if even THAT
  22. isn't safe anymore. If you run a warez board, and you get busted,
  23. you know why. But in the example of the 2 busts mentioned above,
  24. I surely have my questions about the future of bbs'ing. Not that
  25. I'm leaving the scene, NO! far from it... TRAXX is still active,
  26. and more beatfull than before. Our WHQ just moved from HOUSE
  27. ADONIS to NEO TOKYO BBS.

  29. The board is closed because I have big future plans, and I'd hate
  30. to see them go to waste because of some stupid crack that may get
  31. uploaded.
  32. It's virtually impossible to check all uploads on a bbs where
  33. about 150 meg of new stuff comes in every week. Even more, if a
  34. FILE_ID.DIZ doesn't contain the word "CRACK" or "PATCH", it's
  35. very hard to know if the file is illegal or not. So what should
  36. a sysop do? Check ALL files every time? Are you insane? Do you know
  37. what that represents? In the case of HOUSE ADONIS, this means
  38. about 40 hours of work every WEEK! No way, man! I don't have the
  39. time for it. Even on big commercial boards there's always a
  40. chance some files aren't clean. Maybe the guys from Novell should
  41. take a look at the Internet. There's tons of illegal stuff on it,
  42. and nobody does anything about it. But, hey, a shareware BBS,
  43. well, that's the real threat? ... Don't make me laugh.

  45. Anyway, there's nothing small people like you and me can do about
  46. it. They athletically use the law so that you always draw the
  47. shortest straw, right? So, the only thing for me to do was close
  48. the BBS. I admit it came hard for me. I just loved BBS'ing ...
  49. It was my life. But I don't want to live on every day fearing
  50. that some company finds something on my bbs that they hate.

  52. And believe me, I spent hours looking for illegal stuff on my
  53. bbs, and removing it, cleaning it, nuking the files, punishing
  54. the uploaders, etc... But it seems that isn't enough. Companies
  55. want it to be 100% clean. Well, I'm sorry, but I can't guarantee
  56. that. I have only 2 hands and 2 eyes. And you all know that not
  57. all users help you keep the bbs clean. After all, they're users,
  58. surfers, joyriders. It's not their responsability. So I decided
  59. to pull the plug on my bbs. Too bad ... Especially because those
  60. Novell cracks never were in my file bases ...

  62. Well, life sukcs, right? Oh well ... I hope that my users had a
  63. great time during those 3 great years. And we all had fun, right?

  66. Okay, so now... on with the show ... Just because I don't have
  67. a board anymore doesn't mean I won't be in the demo scene anymore.
  68. (some people will be disappointed about that, but hey, fuck you,
  69. assholes). I will still make music, I will still release TRAXX
  70. music packs ... And maybe now I'll have some more time for my
  71. wife and my friends. Because friends do exist ...
