  12.     This 'CHECKOUT' BBS distributes software for the sole purpose
  13.       of testing prior to purchase.  You've 24 hours to try the software
  14.       and determine that it is worth  purchasing, then you must  destroy
  15.       it.   The  BBS Sysop feels  that it is  unfair to  computer  users
  16.       that they are unable to evaluate software to see if it suits their
  17.       needs.  Many  users have purchased products by the way the program
  18.       'looks' on the box and have been extremely disappointed - and have
  19.       therefore wasted their money and (more important) time.  Nobody in
  20.       their right  mind would purchase a  car  without  test  driving it
  21.       first,  or  for  that  matter...purchase  clothes  without  trying
  22.       them  on, so how  can  software  vendors  expect users to  buy one
  23.       of their products without first testing it?  They will send copies
  24.       of their software to large corporations to test but seem to forget
  25.       there are also other users in the market willing to purchase their
  26.       product if it meets their needs.   This is where this checkout BBS
  27.       comes in.   This program is for evaluation only,  if you like this
  28.       product  then  go  to  your  local computer store and purchase it,
  29.       otherwise PLEASE do not USE or in anyway DISTRIBUTE this  product!
  30.       There are many advantages to purchasing this product including:

  32.       1) Technical Support: Software vendors set  up  technical  support
  33.                 lines  for  the  purpose  of  helping  their
  34.                 registered users get the  most  out  of  the
  35.                 product and help with any bug concerns, etc.
  36.                 It is to your advantage to be  able  to  use
  37.                 this (and the many features of the program).

  39.       2) Manuals:           Manuals are  a  very  important  part  of  a
  40.                 software package.  No book  or text file can
  41.                 replace the  original  manuals,  which  come
  42.                 with the product. This enables  the  user to
  43.                 get the most out of the package,  especially
  44.                 with the very complex programs of today.

  46.       3) Upgrades:          With  buying  the  original program, you are
  47.                 entitled  to  low priced or free upgrades to
  48.                 new versions, bug fixes, and 'enhancements'.

  50.       4) Legality:          Using a program  without owning a registered
  51.                 copy is illegal.

  53.       5) Control Of The     When  companies  who  create  good  products
  54.      Industry:          are  supported,  it  reinforces the need for
  55.                 good products and helps the company continue
  56.                 to create more  quality  products.   On  the
  57.                 other hand, companies who create substandard
  58.                 products have  two  options; either  improve
  59.                 their products or get out of the industry.

  61.       Until  companies come up with a better  way  of  allowing  users  to
  62.       test their products before purchasing, 'checkout' BBSs will continue
  63.       to make available products  for  your  testing.  Companies  recently
  64.       have started to head in this  direction and you can now return  some
  65.       products  to  the  company  if  you  are  not  completely  satisfied
  66.       (Norton, and a few others), but this does not remedy  the  situation
  67.       as the refund/credit takes a long time to get processed and is a BIG
  68.       hassle!   We feel that under the current software industry standards
  69.       of doing business, that evaluating software releases prior to actual
  70.       purchase is still the best solution.

  77.       before purchasing it.   Once you have seen what the  product is like,
  78.       either  purchase  the product, or remove it from any and all
  79.       disks/places of data storage.  Also note, that it is ILLEGAL to copy
  80.       software, and keep the copy, without buying the software.
  81.       Any uploads transfered to the BBS system, are those that the caller
  82.       chose to transfer their right and registration to the product to This

  87.       of the software, to the BBS, he chooses them to be made available
  88.       as demos, to be distributed to those under the intention of fully
  89.       purchasing the software, or simply to use as a preview only to be
  90.       disliked, and therefore removed.
