z/15/96:
MS: "So Bill, how is the demo coming along?"
MD: "I dunno, talk to Kneebiter about it."
MS: "I did, he said to talk to YOU."
MD: "Oh..."
Well, today is exactly two weeks from NAID, and I believe someone's
signiature is on a document saying it has to be released today. Well, it
isn't done(sorry). Well, not COMPLETE(some thing). Yea, that's good.
I just added soundblaster support today, and it is REALLY bad. For it to
work, you need a very fast machine - the player is insanely slow. Sorry
again. I still have to fix a few flickers, transitions, and minor bugs(you
call that minor?), but it is good enough for a while. I may release a
version 1.1 or something, time permitting(yea, right).
6/5/96:
Okay, this is Moby speaking. I am writing this FAQ because every time I
showed the demo, someone would ask me a question about one of the effects.
So, for those of you non-veterans of the demoscene, this will explain why we
did what we did:
PART 8: Scroller
- Well, it's a scroller. And it is backwards. 10 points if you can read it.
PART 7: Unmelt
- Ever see Heartquake^? Or about 1000 other demos with melting logos/title
screens? Well, this is our rendition.
PART 6: Backwards fire
- I know, I know - fire looks mostly the same backwards and forewards, but
the text "unburns."
PART 5: Backwards shadebobs
- They look like classic shadebobs, but they erase themselves.
PART 4: Reverse wormhole
- Ever watch Unreal^/FC? The wormhole goes the other direction, and the
cell blocks are reversed.
PART 3: Unbouncing lens
- Gravity reverses itself for Threesome^. Note that the lens is concave, not
convex like in other demos. The Mandlebrot was calculated in the
background while other effects ran(so was the wormhole). Howcome no one
ever does fractals full screen?
PART 2: Reverse starfield
- The clock is my own artwork - "MS: CODER-ART, CODER-ART!" - sorry. The
clock is melting in case you couldn't tell. Oh yea, that thing is supposed
to be a clock. The whole scene is a reference to Panic^, and the unflying
title letters.
PART 1: Unbooting computer
- This is the cheapest yet most loved effect in the demo. It is an exact
duplicate of my 486 AMI BIOS(old!). Take note of the drive light flickering,
the clicking for the memory untesting, and the usual annoying BEEP at
boot-up.

^ Heartquake is an unregistered trademark of Iguana productions :-)
^ Threesome is in no way related to the cult movie starring Josh Charles,
Lara Flynn Boyle, and Stephen Baldwin. ;-D
