  13.         This 'CHECKOUT' BBS distributes software for the sole purpose
  14.       of testing prior to purchase.  You've 24 hours to try the software
  15.       and determine that it is worth  purchasing, then you must  destroy
  16.       it.   The  BBS Sysop feels  that it is  unfair to  computer  users
  17.       that they are unable to evaluate software to see if it suits their
  18.       needs.  Many  users have purchased products by the way the program
  19.       'looks' on the box and have been extremely disappointed - and have
  20.       therefore wasted their money and (more important) time.  Nobody in
  21.       their right  mind would purchase a  car  without  test  driving it
  22.       first,  or  for  that  matter...purchase  clothes  without  trying
  23.       them  on, so how  can  software  vendors  expect users to  buy one
  24.       of their products without first testing it?  They will send copies
  25.       of their software to large corporations to test but seem to forget
  26.       there are also other users in the market willing to purchase their
  27.       product if it meets their needs.   This is where this checkout BBS
  28.       comes in.   This program is for evaluation only,  if you like this
  29.       product  then  go  to  your  local computer store and purchase it,
  30.       otherwise PLEASE do not USE or in anyway DISTRIBUTE this  product!
  31.       There are many advantages to purchasing this product including:

  33.       1) Technical Support: Software vendors set  up  technical  support
  34.                             lines  for  the  purpose  of  helping  their
  35.                             registered users get the  most  out  of  the
  36.                             product and help with any bug concerns, etc.
  37.                             It is to your advantage to be  able  to  use
  38.                             this (and the many features of the program).

  40.       2) Manuals:           Manuals are  a  very  important  part  of  a
  41.                             software package.  No book  or text file can
  42.                             replace the  original  manuals,  which  come
  43.                             with the product. This enables  the  user to
  44.                             get the most out of the package,  especially
  45.                             with the very complex programs of today.

  47.       3) Upgrades:          With  buying  the  original program, you are
  48.                             entitled  to  low priced or free upgrades to
  49.                             new versions, bug fixes, and 'enhancements'.

  51.       4) Legality:          Using a program  without owning a registered
  52.                             copy is illegal.

  54.       5) Control Of The     When  companies  who  create  good  products
  55.          Industry:          are  supported,  it  reinforces the need for
  56.                             good products and helps the company continue
  57.                             to create more  quality  products.   On  the
  58.                             other hand, companies who create substandard
  59.                             products have  two  options; either  improve
  60.                             their products or get out of the industry.

  62.       Until  companies come up with a better  way  of  allowing  users  to
  63.       test their products before purchasing, 'checkout' BBSs will continue
  64.       to make available products  for  your  testing.  Companies  recently
  65.       have started to head in this  direction and you can now return  some
  66.       products  to  the  company  if  you  are  not  completely  satisfied
  67.       (Norton, and a few others), but this does not remedy  the  situation
  68.       as the refund/credit takes a long time to get processed and is a BIG
  69.       hassle!   We feel that under the current software industry standards
  70.       of doing business, that evaluating software releases prior to actual
  71.       purchase is still the best solution.

  88.       before purchasing it.   Once you have seen what the  product is like,

  90.       disks/places of data storage.  Also note, that it is ILLEGAL to copy
  91.       software, and keep the copy, without buying the software.

  93.       chose to transfer their right and registration to the product to This

  98.       of the software, to the BBS, he chooses them to be made available
  99.       as demos, to be distributed to those under the intention of fully
  100.       purchasing the software, or simply to use as a preview only to be
  101.       disliked, and therefore removed.
