  4.    Introduction to Silver Xpress.
  5.    
  6.    Welcome to the Silver Xpress Off-line Mail System.  Silver Xpress is
  7.    an off-line mail system  designed for  all major bulletin board
  8.    systems.
  9.    
  10.    Reading and  replying to  bulletin board mail is time consuming, often
  11.    taking up  your entire  allocated time  on a BBS.  If you read lots of
  12.    mail, spend  a lot  of time on-line replying to and entering new mail,
  13.    and/or have  large phone  bills from  calling computer  bulletin board
  14.    systems (BBS's), then Silver Xpress is for you.

  18.    With Silver  Xpress, you  can capture  mail in an organized manner for
  19.    off-line reading  and replying.   You  can do this with any Xpressable
  20.    BBS on which you are a user.  Ask the BBS sysop if their system is set
  21.    up to support Xpress.

  23.    Xpress  captures   mail  from   your  pre-selected  message  areas  or
  24.    conferences.   It then bundles the mail into a compressed format ready
  25.    for downloading  to your PC.  This compressed file is called an Xpress
  26.    mail packet.  Once you download the Xpress mail packet to your PC, you
  27.    use the  interactive Xpress  Reader program  to read and reply to your
  28.    mail.

  30.    To get  started, find  a bulletin  board system that offers the Silver
  31.    Xpress system  as a  service to  you,  a  communication  program  with
  32.    download and  upload capabilities,  and a file compression system such
  33.    as PKZip,  PAK, ARC, ZOO, or LHARC.  File compression systems are also
  34.    called archival systems or archivers.

  38.    In summary, the Xpress system lets you do the following:
  39.    
  40.      a) scan for your new mail
  41.      
  42.      b) bundle the mail into Xpress packet format
  43.      
  44.      c) compress the bundle using your favorite archiver
  45.      
  46.      d) transfer the  Xpress packet  to your  PC using  a  standard  file
  47.         transfer protocol such as Xmodem, Ymodem, or Zmodem
  48.      
  49.      e) use the  special Xpress  Reader program after logging off to read
  50.         and reply to the new mail
  51.      
  52.      f) log back  on the same BBS to upload the reply packet, if you have
  53.         created one
  54.      
  55.      g) repeat from the beginning
